MM willed a lot of her belongings to Lee Strassburg, of the Actors’ Studio. She had no friends to put in her will? That’s sad. Years later I see that MM’s personal letters were put up for auction, the Strassburgs didn’t sort or cull her personal stuff out before turning everything over to an auction house. I thought that was horrible! I took some comfort in learning that Mariah Carey purchased her white baby grande piano; she didn’t think it belonged at a genera auction and wanted to protect it herself .

“Spinster” - as a single woman i purchased a house in Illinois in 1985. I was described as a “spinster” in the deed, at the closing sale. I questioned the lawyers about that, not liking it. They said that was the legal term for a single woman and was to my benefit to say that. It indicated I had never been married and therefore, no man can dare to claim marriage with me, and no one can claim Co-ownership of my new property. Seeing that a wife had to get her husband’s permission to get her own credit card then, I was content with the appellation. I didn’t want any old boyfriend laying claim to part of my property. Spinster was baked into the legal system at that time, to protect the woman. (I don’t know what current terms are used)

I believe that she is not being honest in this interview. She had refused to be interviewed many times before and I even remember one quote very late in her life where she asked why she had to keep telling the same story over and over. Also, some of the neighbors were outside visiting when they saw RFK pull up in a car and go inside Marilyn's home the afternoon of the day she died. They lived on that little cul-de-sac and it was easy to see comings and goings if somebody was outside. There is so much more about RFK. I read that Marilyn's house was bugged by the Mafia and/or the FBI, maybe both. Somebody who heard the tape said RFK had gone through the house yelling at her, wanting to know where "it is!" Speculations are it was her diary. Eunice Murray was installed by the doctor as a spy, to keep an eye on his meal ticket. It was very unethical to be so close to a patient. She even stayed over at his house many times. I believe he and the other doctor also giving her lots of medication both got into big trouble after her death and may have lost their licenses. I can't remember all the particulars at this late date. I have read extensively on all this. The first cop on the scene was convinced the body had been staged. He also said the "housekeeper" was busy washing clothes (in the middle of the night)and was very evasive when he talked to her. There was a delay of hours before they had called the police. I believe there was a huge cover up going on. There is much more that I have read about on this case. As far as being unrecognizable, a friend was walking with her on the street in NYC when she asked him if he wanted to see "Marilyn." She started turning it on with the walk and everything and he said they were all of a sudden being mobbed by fans.

Hi 👋🏻 👋🏻 Jess, I think Marilyn's housekeeper knew a lot, maybe not all of it, about the strange goings on in Marilyn's home the night of her death. The suspicion of the bed linen that was found in the washing machine hours after her death. I think she was asked by an alert police officer about it and she made up a plausible story. I think like Ruth Paine and Dallas and Oswald that she knew or heard a lot more than she could or was willing to say from fear of endangering her life. I would be afraid too in her shoes. 💔 for Marilyn. Cork, Ire 💚

I’ve seen at least a couple recollections from people who knew Marilyn who said the “Marilyn” persona was something she put on like a hat… that she demonstrated for them how if she was not seeking attention, she could be incognito, then all she needed to do the next minute was change her hair, her voice, and walk for people who had just walked by her to just flock back.

Hello Jess, thank you so much for this trip down memory lane - I remember the lead up to Princess Anne’s wedding - there was lots of speculation in the media about her dress, what style it would be & the type of fabric etc. The day after the ceremony a leading fabric store in the city (Sydney, Australia) had a replica of the dress on a model in their front window! The ceremony was televised so they obviously had designers, pattern makers and seamstresses working all night on the dress to get it completed by the next morning - it looked absolutely beautiful! Thank you also for the article on Marilyn - such a tragic end.

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing you read that article. One question I always have about Marilyn‘s death is why did it take so long for the police to come. If she died after midnight, why did the police come at four thirtyish? Strange. As far as the store owner not recognizing her, without make up, Marilyn looked quite a bit different and when she turned on her sex appeal/the va-voom, that’s when Marilyn Monroe came out. Apparently she would go out when she lived in New York City without any make up and just a kerchief on her head over her hair and people wouldn’t recognize her.

Because they had to clean house first of any evidence of her involvement with Bobby Kennedy. She wrote things down. The Kennedys talked too much. She knew of secret nuclear testing going on and who knows what else. Bobby was in town the day she died. That's been proven by records. They had to get Bobby out of town and flown back to San Francisco before her death was reported. Friends reported her filing cabinets had been gone through.

One of her makeup artists wrote a book back in the 70s. He said she only ate one hardboiled egg & drank champagne all day. Also said he dressed her for her “dates” with Bobby Kennedy… which makes me sick to think she was ok with dating married men. Yet nobody calls her out on that. I was alive in her era…. Honestly, dating a married man wasn't as strongly looked down up like it is today. The world was so misogynistic. I’m fascinated by Marilyn’s last day. I wouldn’t put anything past the Kennedys, but even considering my automatic skepticism, I guess they can have the benefit of the doubt on this one… But then when I think about the timing… But then when I think about her general “happiness” at the time and that Jack allegedly said he was going to get a divorce… But then when I think the Teflon Kennedys know they’ll get a pass on everything if she sang about Kennedy infidelity… And how on earth can Bobby traipse around Hollywood with no one noticing? And then I think of how many drugs there were…could their ingestion be accidental? Conclusion: I DON’T KNOW!!!!

There are still questions in my mind for sure. I read somewhere that the level of barbiturates was beyond what could be ingested. Someone implied a barbiturate suppository had to have been used. This article doesn’t mention anything like that. I wonder what is true.

The French American fashion designer Jean Louis did do the Happy Birthday dress. Apparently she trusted him so much that she had it written into her contract that he had to do ALL of her costumes. He also was happy to sew her into her skin tight clothes. THAT dress was very similar to one he’d already done for Marlene Dietrich who gave Marilyn his details. I love the history of fashion and used to watch a channel from the owner of a vintage clothing shop in LA & not just the average vintage shop. Movie star’s stylists shop there. If I remember correctly, Marilyn was really good friends with her doctor and his wife. She had stayed with them for a while. I think it was her psychiatrist. I can't find that interview I watched that I had told you about. I do know it's a pretty recent book. There's evidence that RFK was in that area. The theory is she died in an ambulance on the way and because she died, they took her back to cover it up because RFK was involved. It's been a while since I saw it.

@ryverkekkey5047. Yes, I think I saw a utube video from that author (mark cross? I know Jess is aware of him also. In it, Darryl Gates, LAX security head, testifies on film that RFK arrived at LAX the day of MM’s death. DG was later the infamous LAPD Chief. The author said RFK took a car late that night to a rich friend’s house, then helicoptered to San Francisco the next day to avoid LAX. The author also said that MM died in the ambulance so they took her body back to her house. This companion does not concede that fact, so does she have a convenient memory lapse? Unfortunately, at one time, I was on my way to getting out of a severe depression, but was still gaining hope. I worked up the courage to get my life together. A few new clothes, new items for my apartment, etc. At that point in my recovery, I found out that the guy that I was totally in love with, but not dating, was living with a girl. I was clueless of the situation. The day that I found out was the same day his girlfriend had his baby. I fell to the ground sobbing and thought I was going to die. Wanted to die. So, I have thoughts that she possibly did want to die because JFK and Bobby refused her calls the night of her death. She probably was panicking and devastated. Heartbroken. I also believe that JFK and Bobby had her killed that night/early morning. It’s all such a mystery. Seems as if we will never know the exact circumstances😔 After reading so much about her and watching documentaries about her, I gained love for her. A beautiful soul.

It's true that MM left everything to Lee Strasberg. But in the end he was on his 2nd marriage when he died and his estate went to his 2nd wife. MM never knew her. When she died MMs estate wasn't worth that much but she became so iconic as the years passed and her estate worth grew expotentially. MM had a half sister. Idk if she's still living. MM had bequeathed her 10 grand in her will. I think if she had known what her net worth would become she would have left more to her. I think it's so sad that a woman she never knew profited so much.

I enjoyed hearing about Marilyn through her nurse's eyes. I find your voice and demeanour irritating because you appear too nice and perfect. I cannot understand why people with your personality affect me so much. I was 16 and with a school friend during the school holidays when we heard Marilyn had died. I was most upset because l was a fan of Marilyn Monroe from age 10. Infact, l asked my parents to take me to, "Some Like It Hot." Lol l wanted to be a film star just like Marilyn Monroe. I dyed my hair with spray tint when l was 15 years old. I think in my late teens l unconciously appeared like Marilyn sexy and wide eyed dumb.

That’s really interesting about Marilyn’s housekeeper saying Marilyn definitely didn’t see RFK the day she died. I know what I look like when I’m hanging out at home. And I definitely wouldn’t let a guy I’m infatuated with come over without getting more “presentable”. I have a feeling Marilyn wouldn’t either, unless he arrived unannounced. When the housekeeper returned home she didn’t say Marilyn looked like she was more dressed up, or upset, or changed in any way from when she had left earlier. It’s also interesting that apparently Marilyn’s bedroom door and window were locked. Doesn’t seem that anyone could have gotten in her room and forced a lethal dose of anything fast acting upon her. I recall hearing speculation about why Marilyn’s housekeeper (I’m sorry I’m terrible with names and too lazy to remind myself of what it was) took so long to call for emergency help after discovering Marilyn had died. But this article doesn’t seem to leave any questionable time gaps. Just my immediate thoughts….

May I recommend Donald Spoto's Marilyn Monroe: A Biography? Though about 31 years since it's first printing, I regard it as the best of the 27 biographies I've read on Monroe, and it's still available on Amazon. It dispels much of the popular mythology surrounding this great artist and her background. Spoto is methodical in every assertion, and according to his research, Eunice Murray never finished high school. Therefore, she could never have been a nurse. Before I read Spoto's book, I, too, believed many magazines articles that bestowed the title of nurse to Murray. Unfortunately, publishing and film corporations are filled with irresponsible books and "documentaries" such as Mailer's Marilyn and "Say Goodby to the President". Of course the minute you seethe names Robert Slatzer or Jeanne Carmen -- run, don't walk! Those two created a cottage industry of picking the bones of the deceased actress by pretending to have been close confidents despite the fact that none of Marilyn's friends ever met or heard her refer to either.

I think Princess Anne is simply marvelous. She really embodies the spirit of service that the late Queen had. I don't think it is possible for Anne to pass her title of HRH the Princess Royal. That is a gift of the Monarch (but not an automatic gift) to the oldest daughter. Charlotte will likely be given that title one day, after Anne dies, and when William is King. When Anne married a commoner, he was offered an earldom, but rejected the offer, therefore their children were not given the HRH honorific. Anne said later that she felt it was probably the right thing to do since titles do have their downside. Love her.

I think the meaning you're put ting on 'I'm about to cross over the line' or 'about to head over the line' as suicide isn't necessarily what she meant. Taking such medications before myself I think what she was referring to is that moment when the meds 'put you out' or force you into unconsciousness. It's a very distinct thing those meds put you through. They were much stronger than what we normally take today. They used to hit more like a 'goofball' (a combo of uppers and downers deliberately taken together) and when I say 'hit' I mean HIT. You are suddenly rendered dizzy and out of control and the next moment you are gone, unconscious. I'm sure that's what she meant. She was warning the people with whom she was speaking that she might suddenly stop making sense and start babbling gobledeygook when the meds kicked in.

I know some think she might've had an upsetting phone call later that might've ruined her good mood, but it didn't seem to me like she was entertaining any despairing thoughts anywhere in the first part of that last day. Watch movie My Week with Marilyn with Eddie Redmayne and Michelle Williams. She takes a break from filming the Prince and the showgirl with sir Lawrence Olivier. He didn't like her acting and her lateness etc. thought she was unprofessional and was tension between them. On a break she goes traveling the English countryside with the production assistant who had befriended her. She would be incognito and then she'd say should I be Marilyn? She'd turn on Marilyn and everyone swooned. So later he wrote a book called My week with Marilyn. I saw the movie the year it came out but I bet you'd like it. 34.05 Marilyn about to slip over the line. Why did the Easterner or his sidekick not alert Mrs Murray instructing her to call an ambulance. Was it convenient to let her slip? Given the cocktail of drugs in her system it is likely that she overdosed by accident. However, given the proximity of the phone and her communication with Kennedy, was she hoping he would summon help and save her? These questions will remain unanswered, but in my view Marilyn had too much to live for at that stage - the new house, and a certain stability in her domestic circumstances. Ultimately Marilyn remains emblematic of a woman who triumphed over a deeply traumatised early life, was admired, even adored, but who remained isolated like a tiny island linked to the mainland by a fragile causeway.
