I feel the same way about it. I do have a question for you. Is it me, or has Larry Merchant been incapable of doing the post-fight interviews without sounding like a condescending d*ck in nearly every event he’s done in the past several years. To me, it seems like he doesn’t like boxing in the modern era, and is completely bored by all of it. Some of the questions seem more like digs & pot shots, and he rarely mentions any positive aspects of the fight. He has an adversarial approach & dynamic going on in his interviews, and the drawn out, uninterested style of questioning makes it sound like he’s bored with everything. He also looks down at the floor when they’re answering his questions. I know that part of that job is to ask the tough questions, and those are typically what fans really want to hear about, especially after a loss. For some reason, it just rubs me the wrong way. Jim Gray has the same job, but his style seems more respectful, with matter-of-fact lines of questioning. He does have one interview where he was being a prick. It was his All-Star Game interview with Pete Rose, where he was allowed to be back in an MLB stadium for the first time after being banned from the league for gambling & betting on games. Rose was there to be honored by fans, and Jim Gray started the interview by asking him if he wanted to talk about it. Looking back on it, that was out of line, but also kinda hilarious.

@@frenchfrench4514 For sure. I'd never go as far as to say Ricky would of otherwise won, Mayweather is one of the best boxers of all time and even if Hatton was allowed to fight to his strengths it was going to be an uphill battle and would require the performance of his life, but what slim chance he had, Cortez robbed him of it and ended any chances of the fight being a contest.

You said Ricky Hatton was respectful from beginning to end of the Mayweather situation? Dude no he was not, he talked sooooo much shit and that's what sold the fight.

Watching Ricky come up through the ranks and eventually beat Kostya Tszyu, was an absolute joy. His relentless pressure, blistering combinations and the sniper like accuracy of destructive power punches, made every fight compulsive viewing. He truly was a breath of fresh air to the boxing scene. Ricky wanted to fight Mayweather for years, but his long standing professional team, trainer etc repeatedly advised against that. In the end, Ricky fired them, replaced them with members of his family and went ahead with arrangements to fght Mayweather. That was his first, big mistake. The second was believing that he could walk through anything Mayweather threw at him, completely underestimating the cumulative effect. If Ricky had defended himself properly in that bout, he might have won or at least got a draw. Ricky is a terrific character and he remains one of my all time favourite boxers.

his defense was just not good enough to hang with the top dog. Even in the pauli fight, he was eating so many left hands, more specifically hooks. Good heart but he just never figured out how to deal with left hooks

@Newbtuber The truth is that towards the end of his career Ricky neglected his defences, especially against Mayweather. He was 100% focused on offence. That was his mistake. Ricky had previously demonstrated highly capable defences. If you don't believe this, watch his win over Kostya Tszyu.

What most people don't know that between EVERY SINGLE FIGHT Ricky Hatton put on about 60lb! Drinking Guinness and eating Chinese takeaways and now we know snorting and doing all sorts.. add that to the fact he used to get on shape within 12weeks, and THEN DESTROY WORLD CHAMPIONS! THAT'S a Fighters fighter! A Man's man.. "The Hitman" He now has stood up for mental health as have other Champions liek Tyson Fury whi was written off at about 40stone just 5-12 months BEFORE he came back within 6 months beat just 1 fighter,THEN beat Wilder CONVINCINGLY, not ONCE, not TWICE, but THREE TIMES! THAT'S WHY you should NEVER WRITE OFF someone you THINK is an "underdog" or written off! Cos the STRENGTH it takes to come back from DEPRESSION! If THEY AINT dead, they're DEADLY! (&IM SPEAKING from experience and as someone who admires these guys for speaking out!!) MIKE TYSON, FRANK BRUNO, TYSON FURY, RICKY HATTON, MANY MANY OTHERS!! GOD BLESS THEM! PROPER MEN! - PROPER WARRIORS! God Bless THEM ALL! CHEERS FROM LONDON! ❤️💪👊😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Ricky never dodged a fighter he just never dodged a punch, shame, trained incorrectly unfortunately. he was punching like that as a junior. now Amateur is a sprint race 3 rounds against someone for a plastic trophy you cant eat you there to fill the social clubs a big bar take fighters get a 2 bob meal ticket. you all must understand that the pro game you have to train for a marathon, so train for a marathon. all fighters have their ability to match against any opponent, if all you do is come forward its easy to take you off balance, Ricky had the ability just the wrong coach,,, should have been world champ, imo,
