I think people are underestimating how arrogant Biden is. He was always, always always going to run for a second term. For instance look at his choice for the vice president. Instead of picking someone who might actually pick up the mantel. He chose someone so unpopular that wouldn't challenge him in any way. I wonder if the purpose of this debate was to show the American populace just how bad he has become? Many of us have seen the KZbin shorts, so we have an inkling. I believe it was supposed to have a profound effect on the liberal left though, as they are diehards... Just like the conservative right is not going to change. For the left to have to witness Biden's performance had to be jarring. It was palpable, they could see it with their eyes. It would have been even more jarring had the moderators not cut Biden off when he was stuttering and stammering, with the blank, 1,000 yd look, into nowhere land. For those occasions when they cut him off before more damage was done, the Democratic party should be extremely grateful. I think the whole premise for staging a debate this early was contrived. It is setting the stage for an unprecedented move within the left party. It should be an interesting few months leading up to the election. The Lord help us all.

The primary races didn't give us realistic choices. Biden was the only presidential candidate on the Democratic ballot in NM. People know who Trump is, many of us didn't realize how inadequate Biden has become and most of us feel betrayed by this coverup.

Everyone keeps calling this calamitous and other extreme labels. Why? Was this not what the rest of you all expected? I thought Biden did exactly what I expected, no better/no worse. He wasn't much better four years ago, it's just that four years ago, Trump stupidly kept attacking and didn't give him the time to humiliate himself. I don't mean to say he isn't worse now, but he was already impaired. Some combination of the rules or maybe Trump finally listening to someone smarter than himself (which in most rooms is literally everyone else) and just let Biden self-destruct rather than covering for him by egotistically chattering constantly. I really hope that the D's replace Biden. That would be nice. Preferably with someone OTHER than Kamala Harris, though honestly, at this point, I'd take Harris over these two. I'd like a nice competent/sane moderate. Ron Wyden worked with Paul Ryan in his youth. Klobuchar. Sinema, though that probably can't happen. If you want to be SUPER smart, get someone to pick Nikki Haley as their VP as a unity ticket.

Joe Biden wasn't this bad in 2020... Biden gave a good State Of The Union speech... He has had good and bad moments... But this was his worst monent at a very bad time or a good time since he COULD still be replaced. 25th amendment time. Kamala Harris would do better than Joe Biden at this point I believe.

@@ollie1795 The national profile issue is a problem - but IMHO less of one than you think. At this point, the entire country has been begging for a candidate who isn't clearly unfit for office. Biden and Trump are unfit. Harris, I would argue is as well (albeit for her own reasons). I think as long as you don't nominate someone with massive well-known baggage that would instantly make them no better than Trump to most swing voters, it's a win. A relative unknown can win in this situation because of the opponent. I personally would love the Haley thing, but I think we all know that would never happen. Also, if Haley even put herself in the running for it, if she didn't get it, it would be instant career suicide as a Republican. She's already on thin ice because Trump and his cronies are now fully in control of the RNC and that party's institutions. That wasn't the case in 2016, but it is now. Haley is now on the outside looking in. Since writing my first comment, I saw someone suggest Jared Polis of Colorado, and I think he'd be PERFECT. Unlike Haley, he's a Democrat, but he's a true moderate with a bit of a libertarian streak. Not a huge one, he's still a Democrat. But he's alot more like the old Blue Dog Democrats that have gone extinct. I think he would instantly put all of the light red Republicans and independents that have held their nose voting for Trump the last two cycles into a conflict. They would suddenly have a real alternative, and I think most of them would jump at it.
