Hello Gabriel welcome to my country I hope you have an unforgettable amazing experience. I would advise you to visit the town of Bitola next to Ohrid. It is the second largest city with a really fascinating history it has a nice old bazaar area as well as having the longest pedestrian street in the country Shirok Sokak. South from the city lies the villages of Bukovo and Dihovo, these villages that are connected with the city serve as a nice base for exploring the Pelister National Park that has an endemic tree type. Also its very cheap there, you are sure to find accommodation at an inexpensive price :) .

Beautiful city! Macedonia is in the Bible as well. A bit of history to add, The Apostle Paul went there to preach and one of the early churches began there. It is a place mentioned many times in the gospel.
@thrylosbg4 жыл бұрын
Macedonia is a region in Greece. This one is the North Macedonia and has nothing in common with Greece. North Macedonia was a former Yugoslav Republic and before WW2 was just a part of Serbia called Vardarska. Alexander the Great was born in an ancient city of Pella which remains are located in Greece. The center of Ancient Macedonia is in Greece as well.
@nikochq4 жыл бұрын
Paul went to the area of Thessaloniki (Salonica) which is in Macedonia region in Greece. Paul was not talking about this ripoff version of Macedonia
@paja74 жыл бұрын
@@nikochq When the apostle Paul preached, Macedonia was not a region in Greece but in the Roman Empire. Ancient Macedonia was never Greece: "1 And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into MACEDONIA. 2 And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into GREECE, 3 And there abode three months." (Acts 20) So, ancient Macedonia is one thing and ancient Greece is something completely different.
@nikochq4 жыл бұрын
Pavle that’s because Macedonia was a separate Roman province. That doesn’t change the fact that the ancient Macedonians were Greeks though.
@nikochq4 жыл бұрын
Pavle also Ancient Greece and ancient Macedonia are the same thing. That’s like saying that ancient Sparta or ancient Athens or ancient Thessaly weren’t Ancient Greek because they were their own nation at the time. These areas weren’t divided culturally, they were divided politically. Because Athens was a democracy, Sparta was a Aristocracy and Macedonia was a kingdom. That’s why Macedonia was divided from other Greek city states.

Great video, thanks for sharing this city and for those that don't know much about it. However, the historical side of things is so distorted, that people are always going to have biased and despotism views and defensiveness. When you look at it from a historical point Macedonia was never Greece [the Greeks were known as Hellas], if you look at the original maps in history dating back so far Macedonia was a country, in a sense it took over a good portion which is now [modern Northern Greece] and the answer lays in the year of 1913 when Macedonia was partitioned after the Balkan wars and Greece swallowed the biggest part 51%. Therefore, this unsettlement between the two countries will always be an issue. Alexander's army took [destroyed] the Greek cities and united their soldiers to expand the Macedonian army/empire. Fast track into the new century over the past several decades it was swollen up by Yugoslavia. The Greek Government dispersed the Macedonians living in that region only to advise them to change their names to a Greek name and forbid the spoken language or else!! Bulgaria took the other half and so now you can clearly see why there will always be debates and arguments about this historical land mass and why Macedonia is a very small country and squashed of its ability to be what it probably should have been. Its original place in history! The Greeks and Macedonians will always have a tie to Alexander the Great because they joined forces in the ancient days with the army! and close proximity. Yet vastly apart! :)
