It's weird because I was playing SFV with a friend (who still hadn't completely made the jump to SFV yet) and he got super salty and demanded that we play USF4 instead. Going back to SF4 felt PRETTY damn good, having all my old Ibuki setups, EX neckbreaker, Tsumuji loops, unlimited Kunai, and so on. Maybe it's a little harder if your execution is rusty, but if you know how you to play, it's just like riding a bike. That said, I also enjoy SFV quite a bit, and I feel like I spend a lot more time planning my next move than fretting over dropped combos.

man... i forgot how snapy/responsive this game truly is, i had to install this game again, even on shitty connections, you always feel that you have full control of match, and your char, you can see, and react to stuff, unlike SFV where, half of the time you at the mercy of a jump-in, and if you fuck up your AA once, you die...

As a guy who was super hyped for SFV, massively disappointed after it released (it initially felt like a major case of "fixing what wasn't broken"), was eventually coaxed back in by friends and now hardcore back into the scene, I gotta say that enjoying SFV requires you to really let go of many SF4 fundamentals. The number of times I got crush countered for attempting futile light hit-confirms, threw YOLO DP's thinking I could FADC out of trouble only to get crush countered on the way down, and got crush countered while attempting crouch-techs made me realize that SFV was intentionally and brutally punishing bad habits we built up in SF4, and makes the hate for the new game understandable. The safety nets we instinctively used (and abused) were now setting us up for disaster, and instead of breaking those habits and learning how to use reads, setups, and real SF2 fundamentals (ain't no FADC in SF2, homie), we got salty at the players who were able to adapt to the new system or started from scratch, denigrating their skill by saying that SFV was "too easy" and "for noobs." If you're bad at the game, you can't say the game is "too easy," and if there are players who are better than you, you can't claim the game is too easy until you beat all of them. Having a lowered execution barrier doesn't make a game "easy," it just makes it more playable. If you're getting your ass kicked in a game that's more playable, that just means you're bad at the game. SF4 is an awesome game that I will play at any opportunity with willing opponents, but I'm not going to let that hold me back from an equally awesome game that's only "crime" was being dramatically different from its predecessor.

Anthony Ha Well, I have to disagree with you. For the record I was pretty decent at SFV. Reached Gold with Ken before getting beat down to silver again when I picked up Akuma. Now, back when I played SF4, I was freaking awful. I played usf4 since its PC launch and a few years of Arcade Edition. After buying SFV at launch and playing for a year, I just got... bored. And Annoyed. Objectively speaking, SFV is a watered down game. Less characters, less combos, less special moves on some characters, (looking at you Juri). SF4 has funner neutral game. Pokes do more than control space thanks to the FADC. Seriously, Low MK Fireball FADC into big ass combo is so satisfying. Over all I'd say SFV is much easier than SF4 because 1. Characters do less = less to learn 2. Less characters = less matchup knowledge 3. Easier combos which is fine with me honestly 4. Ridiculously easy meaty set ups 5. Though I'm aware it was patched (ish) anti air jabs were the absolute worst thing in the game. Wake up jabs are still annoying though lol. I personally have far more fun with Usf4 simply because there's more to do. SFV is a good entry point for new players and by all means not bad.

I can respect that. Personally I really like the gameplay of SFV over IV. IV had too much focus on vortexes and V had greater emphasis on fundamentals which I really like. And for a game that was supposed to bring in more casuals, IV ended up being the hardest fighting game to learn, and its not as fun. Third Strike was also claimed to be pretty hard but it was so much fun to learn. Same with V, but not IV.

+Ed Boon I totally understand your argument and, believe it not, I was in the same boat up until very, very recently (maybe the last two months or so). A big part of it was simply not having people to play against, and that gave me no reason for me to be interested in learning the mechanics at a deeper level. I was also an SF4 Ibuki player, and the changes they made to her made her nigh-unplayable to guys like me. At the same time, Ibuki's now one of the craziest characters in the game with extremely technical mixups and a very high barrier of entry; no one can dare say that she's "easy to play." I really don't think SFV is watered down, so much as it negated our past experience and replaced it with stuff that didn't seem interesting at first glance. I thought the V-System was corny as fuck at first, but once I went through trials with all the characters and fought some solid players, I realized just how much MORE important match-up knowledge was, because the V-System prevents "one-size-fits-all" strategies. And as for less combos, I think you can just take a peek at NCR 2017 winners finals and see that there are huge, crazy, creative combos from every part of the screen for various scenarios that you can try out. I've been maining Urien, and the sheer amount of setups he has, both with and without reflectors, is ridiculous. Anti-air jabs are definitely annoying, but wakeup jabs seem suicidal to me, considering how easy (and deadly) meaty crush counters are. Pokes are incredibly deadly in SFV, due to the revamped countering system that promotes the use of heavier attacks rather than light hit-confirms, as crush counters can lead to colossal damage without meter, and lighter counter confirms still allow for consistent damage, especially if you have V-Trigger on tap (which essentially functions as a combination of FADC/Custom Ultra Combo/Alpha Counter). In a way, they didn't take away FADC; they just merged it into a new, more robust system that's literally unique to EVERY character. It's true that there are currently less characters but, come on, the game's only been out for a year. We can't compare it to the cast of a game that's been out for nearly a decade. The same's true for the tech and combo potential; the vast sea of SF4 tech we swim in has been steadily churning since 2009. It's unrealistic to expect SFV to compare to the entire legacy of SF4 right off the bat. With that said, I've been studying up on top players and the newest setups and mixups, and there truly is tons of potential hidden in this game, it's just a matter of people recognizing it. But I also understand that it might still be too soon for folks to make the full jump, as SFV itself is still discovering itself as a game. I'd say hang on to USF4 for a few more years, and see how SFV develops in the future. Hopefully a few solid tourneys will get you back into the game.

Yeah exactly! The system in V is so much more complex than meets the eye. The crush counters, V-trigger, revamped EX moves, its so complex yet they made it so fun. As someone who has been playing IV ever since Super IV, I kinda grew sick of that sub series. Mind you, the IV series is still very solid, but to me, it could never live up to the hype that was the Alpha series or Third Strike, in addition to features other than the combat system that made me think less of IV over time (wonky animations that looked better in 2D, ridiculous costumes, that lack of new moves for characters, dumb ending sequences, meh original soundtrack). V so far fixes most of the issues I had with IV, even if some of IV's weirdness still lingers (though thankfully nowhere near as bad). You see, I don't just focus on the technical aspects of fighting games, but almost some of the more aesthetic qualities that make a great game overall (sadly some of this is no longer paid any mind, with more emphasis on balance updates for the hardcore crow; I miss the days of remixed music and stages with each update, new moves, and the ability to beat your opponent after knocking them out. You know, the little things that help complete the package)

they both play the same, the behavior of gameplay somehow didn't change. The only difference that makes SFV slower is the how long the hit stuns are, it feels quite crunchy and hard compared to SFIV's mushy but quick hits especially the annoying jab combos.

Epic-Fran! People like the Alpha games and 3rd Strike because they're really good games with depth to them. If visuals were that important, vanilla SF3 wouldn't have flown under the radar like it did. That doesn't mean visuals​ don't matter but SFV's problem is it's simplicity. You don't have as many options and damage/stun are high. The game is too momentum based so there's less thinking going on.

I usually just pick a character that looks cool and is fun to play, and in the other games that I play, they are not low tier - one example is that I play Azrael in BlazBlue and Sol in Guilty Gear -, but I get what you mean, it does suck when your character end up being a low tier or turned into a low tier - like E.Honda, my main was him until Ultra, then I have to switch 'cause he's so bad and is hard to play with him, then I started playing T.Hawk and Blanka -.

Ego With Ultra Combo Double you have access to Ultra combo 1 and 2 but they're both at reduced damage. It's not really recommended unless you're playing Dhalsim or Vega or someone like that

First of all I want to tell that I am so sorry in advance that I have no intention to trigger or flame any SFV fan here. Man after some time this was the first USF4 Max played and man is it GOOD? I really don't want to compare the games but since they are both the same titles of a big franchise, I gotta compare to some game. After playing SFV some time, this games feels faster, smoother, has more variation of characters, ultra combos, has better stages, WAY better music! More game modes, amazing bonus mods, may not be the best but has a decent arcade mode, better netcode and looks damn more stylish! Dude this game was an amazing fighting game that kept me fed like years... I realyl wished the same for SFV but fortune doesn't always favors us.
