bought one last week , it's punching out some amazing quality images for it's price - definitely holds it's own with alot of the modern stuff 👌

taking the leap....trading in a bunch of Nikon film equipment an redundant lenses I have to get a minty d600 from KEH for $533. I have a 50mm 1.4D and a 24mm 2.8AIS that I am anxious to shoot on FX for the first time....hoping I have no sensor problems

Awesome to hear! I love the 50mm 1.4D. KEH has been pretty reliable as well when I've purchased from them!

I bought one a year ago for the equivalent of $80 here in Bulgaria since it has a bit of a hit and miss AF but that doesn’t matter since my whole Nikon lens collection is vintage glass. I used to have a d80 which even though is a great camera it was lacking in the ISO performance. I’ve been shooting the d600 in some terrible light conditions and I honestly can’t imagine needing to upgrade. It’s a beast of a camera for cheap.

I just bought a D610 a few weeks ago (5700 ish shuttercount). With this one, Nikon fixed all the problems of the D600. I think it's a great camera into the full frame camera world, and it's an amazing value for money.

I got an EX one with ~26K shutter actuations for $355 on KEH last week.
@cswann82 жыл бұрын
3:16 I don't know about that. You got a great deal on your D600 but the D610's I see on eBay in good shape with low shutter counts are typically in the $500 range. And there are several YT channels touting the staying power of this body.

I've had one since September 2012, I experienced the dust problem. To be fair (in my case), it wasn't exactly dust, it was tiny particles of paint, I never had oil splatter. The mirror rubbed against another part inside the camera spreading those tiny particles of paint on the sensor. So I triggered around 10'000 shots in continuous high mode without the sd cards in in order to remove all the paint in contact with the mirror, then I cleaned the sensor. Since then the problem has disappeared gradually, still need to clean the sensor once in a while (as you would do for any regular sensor) but it's definitely not as bad as it used to be. The quality of the D600 and D800 (released in 2012) are still up to date for very little money.

I like your solution! I can't believe how affordable the d600s have gotten lately; they have to be among some of my favorite sensors (aside from the dust problem). The raw files are so forgiving to work with too!

Nice review. The D600/610 has the best color output of all Nikon CMOS cameras, I think. Got two D610s. :-) Even if you got a deep water horizon situation going on on your sensor, it will disappear after about 20-30k actuations, at least so I have read once.

I loved the d610! I had one of those bad boys for awhile as well! I used mine throughout the brutish Minnesota winters for a few years. I ended up selling it when I cracked the body and kept my d600 simply because it was still in one solid piece from using it less lol. Thanks for the comment! Two d610s would be an awesome pairing for professional use

Sensor cleaning should be/ought to be a normal operation for any DSLR shooter. There's always the non-zero chance that any DSLR camera will get dust on the sensor, so its good practice to clean it at least once a year, if not a bit more frequently., but also not constantly. Sort of a "light preventative maintenance" sort of thing.

Well Matt! I had played this video that you made several times (for no reason) in the last month. Yesterday, finally I got on Ebay a D600 for $249 with 36K on the shutter. Not bad since the price on average in 2024 is $330 ish. I'm rolling the dice here with "the oil on the sensor issue", but I'm not afraid about it neither. We all have to clean our cameras sensors from time to time anyway, right?? Best regards!

I appreciate your support! Honestly I feel that you may be safe with your purchase in modern times; either the ones on today's market haven't gotten the issue, or they've had it and got it repaired. Regardless, the d600 has to have one of my favorite sensors of all time. Memorably superb imaging! Happy shooting!

Still one of the best rated sensors on DXO Mark. The reason the D600 is inexpensive has nothing to do with the sensor dust issue: all FF DSLRs from 10 or more years ago are selling at deep discounts (a Canon 5D Mark Ii is even less expensive). Why? For one because they are old, two because most pros have switched to FF mirrorless cameras.

Ahh yes. This is the camera that got me turned off to Nikon after shooting with Nikon gear for 11 years. I had to clean the damn sensor every time after shooting with it because of all the oil spills. Eventually Nikon replaced my d600 with d610 but even then, the oil splatter issue did not get resolved and I canned it and went to d750. At that point I was done with Nikon. Never went back and probably never will.
