Almost a year ago we now we took my Nikon D5100 out for my first camera review, at almost 11,000 views now I wanted to take that camera back out and do a shoot for 2021, and I can say I am still extremely impressed by the quality and sharpness the Nikon D5100 continues to give me after all these years and with such a high shutter count. The Nikon D5100 is one of the best cameras I have ever owned, and the day it fails, will be the day I find another!

I've noticed that Nikon cameras have an amazing noise , it's almost like film grain , i don't mind the noise levels on Nikon , it adds to the photo effect .

I've had the Nikon D5100 since I was in high school. I'm 25 and still use it. Only thing is, I never had a great lens to use with it. Only its default kit 18-55mm f3.5 lens. It's a good lens for what It is, but i recently bought a used Nikon 24mm f1.4 off ebay and I cant wait to see how much of a difference my photos will look. I'm so excited for it to come in.

The 24mm is such a fantastic wide angle! That is one of my go to focal lengths for landscape Photography!! If you ever get really into portrait work I always recommend the 50mm 1.8!

I love my D5300 for landscape and Aurora photography, but I’m having issues with getting my focus right for portraits. I get right on the eye, and sometimes it’s in focus and sometimes mot. I do have some fast lenses, both prime and zoom, and I do play with the Aperture to try and broaden my depth of field. I’ve also manually adjusted my focusing motor (I would advise against doing this) but I’m still off. Any suggestions?

I was using the yongnuo 50mm 1.8! I really love that lens and I'll leave a link the review at the end of this. I don't have an issue with manual focus, other than my own eyes aren't the best! Lol. 35mm is a great focal length for a lot of things, and yongnuo makes a 35mm that isn't to expensive as well! I am in love with the Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 prime. It's under a 100 dollars and takes really sharp photos. Most 3rd part brands make lenses for all the manufacturers, so you want to look for nikon F mount lenses as that's the mounting type for the d5100. I think people get so wrapped up in chasing gear they don't realize any of the equipment produced over the last 20 years is pretty fantastic. Don't get me wrong, new gear is exactly that, new and I would hope better. With that said, if you're going to play with your D5100, enjoy it. But, BUT, don't use it for real work. Think of driving a truck for deliveries but the breaks are giving out and behave differently depending on the weather. I have cameras from the 1970s that I have serviced every few years to ensure their operating within specs. If your tool isn't operating within specs, get rid of it or put it up on a shelf as a trophy from a good time.

The D5100 only comes out for play anymore, my D5300s are my go to till I can afford the upgrade to a D800, which is my next big camera purchase

For the life of me, I don't remember why I found the D810 the better of the two, especially when you throw cost in there but there were reasons why I opted to pay full price for the D810 vs the reduced price for the D800. It must have been compelling enough. With that said, the D810 is a phenomenal body. Although I usually use other bodies these days, the D810 is often in my bag as my backup. For some situations, it is still my primary.

It does not. The Nikon D5100 only does 1080 hd. You might have to adjust the settings to a higher quality, I think Default is 720.

Saddle you're right, the nikon d5100 does not have wifi, there are some cards out there that would allow you to wirelessly share your images but I wasn't able to find a wifi adapter for it.

I don't have a ton of experience with the canon t6, but my experience with a lot of canon cameras, I find them overall more user friendly, but, I have an issue with focus selection with canon cameras. With the d5100 it's pretty easy to use the selector in the back to pick a focus point, where as with the canon you have to press a button and then select.

The d5100 is okay on low light but it isn't great, with a fast enough lens (f1.8, F.4) and if you don't mind a bit of noise it'll definitely work

Recently got a D500 at the pawn shop with a low count. I use a Sony HX300V mainly for moon and plane shots, except have the lens error E62:10 again, the cable to the stabilizers give out and they repair with the same part/lens that then give out after 15 months or more... (Had a Mack Camera warranty for the 4 / 5 times it was repaired but out of warranty now) Also have some other cameras I bought at garage sales or thrift stores... I just took some light bulb shots to test and could not tell a big difference in shutter sound......

I was looking at the Sigma 150-600mm for around $899 but a big chuck of money for me to spend..... just for shooting for fun... last week had also picked up a Canon SX530HS with a 50X zoom just to have as a carry around camera to kind of pick up the slack of my Sony HX300V messing up, still works ok at wide but need a tripod and no wind when zooming......... I wish the SX530HS had a viewfinder as well, just has the set screen.... sorry off topic

The d3300 is a newer camera with a newer sensor and more megapixels, if I had to choose one just for Photography to get started I would pick the d3300 (if it's in your budget, the d5100 is a cheaper camera, D5100 is 16 megapixels D3300 is 24 megapixels The price difference is about 100 dollars between the two on ebay. And I always try to answer everyone

The d7000 has the same megapixels, but is overall a better camera in my opinion, d3xxx is basic consumer, d5xxx is mid level d7xxx is prosumer out of the three levels the d7000 would give you the most room to grow

I have a video on the a6100, I'm really falling in love with the mirrorless cameras right now. I think they are the future and many of the 3rd party lenses I recommend for nikon are made for the sony cameras. The compactness and ease of use of the sony a6xxx series cameras can't be beat

The camera itself is usually 150 and the 55-300 is 160 used, those two alone make it definitely worth it!

Yes actually it can, there are a number of cables online that will charge the nikon d6100

Really you can get a new charger and a pair of batteries pretty cheap on Amazon too

I agree, My very first youtube video was shot with the D5100 and I was really disappointed with how it came out. I have been toying with the setting and might have found a set the works, going to go and shoot broll with it soon and see if I am right!
