Nah Nintendo really didn't lose a lot of profit from Wii U and 3DS, thus Nintendo didn't have a dark age. They were still financially stable.

This was a good period of time. Some great games, some amazing times spent playing smash 4, animal crossing newleaf, mario 3D world, (i was a HUGE fan of land, so it blew my freaking mind lol) mariokart 8, Nintendo land, and new super mario bros U. that feeling of booting up NSMB U for the first time was a memory I will cherish forever.

I had experienced ‘prime nintendo’ at that point, i had an n64 with a somewhat extensive library handed down from a close cousin, i had a wii with some GC games, and over a hundred wii games that i sunk countless hours into. The wii u just.. felt so good. Nobody else had it, so it felt like an exclusive club to me. I love the little buddy, still a blast on game night with a large group of friends.

If you want an idea of how hard the Wii U failed with marketing, I recently witnessed a conversation at the second-hand game store where a guy came in saying he wanted to "sell Nintendo's last console". It was the Wii.
