As for the mid-summer release timing. I wonder if that's to help curb the scalper problem to a degree. Inevitably, when a console is released near the holiday season (q.v., Wii, PS4, PS5), scalpers are going to take advantage of FOMO and those things being the "hot holiday toy" for the season, and will do everything to drain the initial stock and keep it that way through the Christmas season. By releasing mid-summer, it gives Nintendo a chance to feel for demand, make adjustment, and ensure it stays well-stocked by Christmas. I think they tried to do the same with the Switch as well, which, though initially difficult to get right at launch, by Christmas of 2017, there were ample opportunities between March and the holidays to pick up consoles.

I know 8 years is a long time, but it does kinda feel bittersweet. I'm sad to see the switch era come to a close because for all the things it lacks (Raw performance, an organized eShop and homescreen THEMES, my god we needed themes on this thing) It was a groundbreaking console in a LOT of ways for both the hardware itself and the software that came out because of it. It's one of the greatest selling consoles of all time, and in 10-20 years people will talk about the resurgence of Nintendo to its early generation glory with this system and the library of games.
