This was primarily made for Canada, and I'm not joking as it wasn't even sold in America. Simply because at the time there was very little internet coverage so they made a console with the bare minimum including no internet access.

But they did. And now you can ad. A network cable but stil no 480p. They found a hole in the bluetooth. Thats the only thing you can connect. And 1 usb . No sdcard. So still verry creative to seach for a hack in the BT system.

WiiU modded was the best, a lot of options covering 3 generations at once. At 2nd revision of the Wii you could technically add GC ports, they were USB far as i recall.

I picked up a wii u premium recently for $150 AUD for the full set (no boxes) + 2 motionplus wiimotes with nunchucks, wiimote accessories, some wii discs and some wii u discs of both good and bad games like supersmash wiiu and wii, mariokart 8 for wii u etc, and kids games I don't want like dora and bee movie. You can get gamecube port usb cards for the wii u or usb gc controllers like for the switch. even with a softmod i believe you can only play gamecube games via iso, not the optical drive, but i dont have any gc discs to test. still, 3 generations in one console with hdmi is pretty nice.

I just did the homebrew /usbloader /wad manager mod and I must say having access to every Wii and GameCube game as well as the virtual console library has increased my enjoyment of the system greatly.

Yeah, I don't think the missing SD, Wifi, or 2nd USB port are big deals at all... The top loading is probably much more reliable... Looks nice... But the missing component was a mistake, IMHO. Otherwise, it's a great little cost reduced console...

The v2 original Wii can play GameCube games with homebrew. It's like the Wii U. You can't use the official discs, but you can load the ROMs on a USB drive.

@@WickedGamerCollector please do not throw away the Mario Wii. You can actually restore scratches my friend. Ok do this. Get a non scratch cloth and get Vaseline and Q-tip. Dip the Q-tip in Vaseline and spread really hard into the scratches and crevices. Now spread all over disc but mainly focus on the scratches and deep ones. After you done, take the cloth that soft and wipe off all the Vaseline. Let it dry and then wash the entire dish under running water. Then wipe with another soft cloth. You will then see a nice shine. The data on CD and DVD discs are unfortunately embedded in the dent on the polymer layer. If it gets scratched data in the dent can’t be read. Blue ray discs can be scratched as many time but will still work because the data is at the bottom of the layers. Try this my friend and see if this works. Use Vaseline. I saw this trick on KZbin but also read article and tried myself. It also depends on how deep the scratch is. But I was able to watch movies or play games through after trying this. The Vaseline acts like a clear coating sealant and reflector so when the laser hits, it can read the dent not the scratch.

The Wii was always meant to be horizontal, that idiotic stand the Wii came with literally blocked its only fan (since it's on the bottom of the system if vertical). They're lucky that the Wii had a good enough heatsink to passively cool it because the fan didn't do anything for most people.

@@acumenium8157 ahh no, the fan is at the back, half way up the system. The holes on the side/bottom are just air intakes. I can comment on how much the included stand restricts the airflow however, as I do not have one.

@@acumenium8157 the blowing is out the back. The air enters through the vents at the bottom/side. Only 2 consoles I know have ever had side fan vents: the Dreamcast and the GameCube. All others have had top or rear fan vents. All series of Xboxs vent out the back or top (or side if you have a series x on its side like I do). All series of playstations with fans vent out the back. Wii/WiiU vent out the back. I doubt the Wii generated enough heat for it to be much of an issue

Really I got my Wii a few days ago for the GameCube functionality and the Wii games. GameCubes are really expensive in Australia so it worked out better to get a Wii and use it for both functions which I’m really loving.

I was luckily enough to get my Wii gifted to me of someone who no longer wanted it a few days ago with everything included and about 15 games. Ive got 2 models of Wii on order (as well as a gamecube, with the gamecube i have no idea if it is a model with a digital video out port, i guess i will have to wait and see) One of the Wiis is a black backwards compatible model, the other is a blue non backwards compatible model (the blue one will be going next to the main TV, the black one, as well as the gamecube, will be going in my “games” room)

It is bit crippled but most stuff they removed aren't that big deal for most of us. They hardly had any use of usb and sd card. Just few people played GC games. Internet portion of the wii was pretty doomed at that point and only thing that was kind of important was that progressive signal. But i think that most people didn't even knew what was that for and some games aren't even compatible with it.

The Wii Mini is why I laughed at people who call themselves Nintendo fans yet still expected a "Switch Pro" lol. This and the "NeW 3Ds" are two prime examples of Nintendo's "upgrades", yet they still put Sony/Microsoft expectations on the Switch. I mean, Removing Gamecube support and Wifi, or rendering launch models obsolete for no reason are considered upgrades? An OLED screen is a step in the right direction, but still not exactly great.

The Wii Mini also doesn't have a wireless card in it... mind you it came out when Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was still very alive and well and Mario Kart 7 was STILL a hugely played game. It is effectively not possible to install custom firmware on a Wii Mini. Effectively, because it was recently discovered you could (I think with a Raspberry Pi?), but it's very hokey... and still kind of useless, since I mean, it has no external storage potential. No SD card slot, only one USB that's probably needed for something else... You should uh, look into modding one of your Wiis if you haven't already. Pretty sure it's really easy nowadays and it can be good to store your games (it's useful for more than piracy y'know!) on an SD card or USB thumb drive... hard-drive is obviously the most cost efficient per gigabyte but I can't recall at all if the Wii can use a hard drive.
