The bar turned a bit gnarly this morning. The swell was up from yesterday and the tide was running out hard while I was there between 6.15am and 7.45am. A 5.5m-6.0m centre console with three POB tried to cross around 5.45am (best I can gather) and came to grief. The occupants were washed out into the bay and picked up a while later by a couple of boats that crossed safely. No one hurt. They were transferred to the surf club IRB and brought to shore. Checked later by an ambulance crew and given the all clear. A smaller boat, which took a solid hit by a good wave, had its sounder ripped off and shipped water and returned to base strapped to the side of Coast Guard vessel John Waddams. A couple of the Noosa Outriggers craft were also swamped and two crew, who were left behind on the bar, also had to be rescued. Never a dull moment. Oh, and a tinny coming back in over the north side hit sand and almost got rolled trying to make their way back out. That video later.
