Great to see someone else braving the icy waters! Tried this myself in Batakundi on the Himalayan range. Trust me, it's not a walk in the park, but once you dive in, the cold doesn't bother you anymore. Incredibly refreshing! Can't wait to do it again.

If you think about it scientifically, the water is warmer than the outside temperature. Water freezes at 32° F or 0°C Everything above the frozen layer if water has to be colder to make that top layer actually freeze solid. All the water under that frozen line is at least slightly above the freezing point as it is still water. Yes, still cold but everything is subjective and you have to consider the surroundings!

Cold is very addictive completely opposite of heat once you embrace it and immerse yourself into it. I am an Indian, I have been in extreme heat and extreme cold before the latter was very comfortable over time. Btw, the viking music gives me goosebumps and a "Viking Feel". Somehow, I learnt to embrace our hot & humid temperatures here in Mumbai after traveling to Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal & Sikkim. Ig my body isn't made to withstand cold honestly but I don't feel much of a heat unless it goes up to 40°C (maybe because the humidity here would protect us from extreme heat). Then again neither are best for human body.

If you think about it scientifically, the water is warmer than the outside temperature. Water freezes at 32° F or 0°C Everything above the frozen layer if water has to be colder to make that top layer actually freeze solid. All the water under that frozen line is at least slightly above the freezing point as it is still water. Yes, still cold but everything is subjective and you have to consider the surroundings!

Removing that image in normal water temperature one can float under water and not actually sink more than a foot below the surface, the panic usually gives illusion that you are far deeper under than u really are. I started swimming after nearly drowning and realizing people took my choking up water Heuuupppp, gulp as a joke. Never needed a life guard after.

You actually don't get sick of the cold itself, your immune system just gets weaker for a short amount of time. And if you have contact to a person which is sick then you likely become sick too. So doing ice baths like her in nature is totally fine and healthy because over time you will get immune to the cold, she just needs to be careful not to get in contact with a virus or anything after doing that. Edit: and you usually do ice bathing in combination with a sauna afterwards
