Also, for anyone on the east coast, the western cold doesn't feel nearly as cold because of the drier air. This also effect the quality of the snow, which out west, even if there is more, it is much easier to handle.

Excellent points--I've lived in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for 39 years, and I am so ready to move to Northern Idaho or NW Montana if I can find a job there. One really important point is that especially with today's winter gear, you can dress for the cold and stay warm, allowing you to go outside and enjoy winter activities. You cannot dress for the heat to keep you cool--flip flops, cargo shorts and a t-shirt is all you can do, and when it is 110 out, you most definitely not cool! It is oppressive beyond belief from mid-May through September (this past year, my AC had to be on through mid-November for parts of each day), and there are times during the summer when I can't even take my dogs out for an evening walk because the pavement is too hot at 7 or 7:30 at night. Here's hoping I can find my way to the PNW before my time's up--I know I'd never look back if I can make it happen!

You have a cooler summer in N. Idaho than most places I've lived in Canada. Who knew?! On the flip side, Americans tend to be surprised how stinking hot and humid it is in Ontario. We tend to the worst of the extremes, w/ deep cold, lots of snow and very hot opposite summers.

@@LiveBetterinNorthIdaho I thought about that as well. Being that ideally I would try to lockdown employment prior to the physical move so I had income upon arrival, so that leads to the question, do employers in Coeur d'Alene ever do online (such as skype, etc) or phone interviews? Or is it strictly face to face
@LiveBetterinNorthIdaho5 жыл бұрын
We have seen employers do both off-site and on-site interviews.

As far as Idaho goes the coldest place in Idaho is Stanley and it gets lots of snow mcall also gets more snow than cda sand point gets more snow as well granted Schweitzer is a mountain but it does get some of the most snow in Idaho island park Idaho is colder than cda as well and gets more snow island park is close to the Wyoming border I believe. Stanley is further south than cda I know you might be thinking odd okay I'll explain fun fact about Idaho south Idaho is higher in average elevation than north Idaho Stanley is surrounded by some of the largest mountains in Idaho the saw tooth mountains Stanley sits in a valley and the wind coming off those peaks is brutal and Stanley can reach as low as negative 40. Stanley is also at just over 6,000 feet in elevation I believe Stanley is at 6,221 feet or so. I'm from colorado originally I can name lots of places that get more snow aspen being one crested butte Victor colorado there is a Victor Idaho as well cripple creek colorado and out on the colorado plains it can get really bad the wind is fierce I live in colorado springs and it's not unusual to see snow in June but it doesn't normally happen. I'm not saying cda doesn't get cold it does the coldest temp I experienced was negative 6 or so when I lived there it was 24 degrees but the wind chill was at negative 6. Cda does receive snow but not as much as people think it does get hot the hottest I ever saw it was 118 degrees I thought I was in Arizona or Texas somewhere Idaho was experiencing a heat wave that year I believe that was in June normally if it hits100 or above in cda it's not until July or August.

first summer here and we can't believe how awesome it is. No joke, I would come home from sweating my butt off all day in the Sacramento Summer and just park it in the A/C for the afternoon. Now we have windows open 24/7, no A/C and we're enjoying the outdoors more than ever!! I'll definitely keep Northern Idaho summers in mind while were bearing the winter....

North Idaho is beautiful. I agree for a region with four true seasons, the weather there is great and the the summers are amazing. But when talking about SoCal the absolute best year round weather is San Diego. Summers in SD are very moderate compared to the rest of SoCal.

Lake Tahoe has way more of a winter climate than Northern Idaho has! Yes it's true, Northern Idaho gets blanketed in snow from time to time, but it's not as much as people think! Believe me, when it's 104 degrees in Sacramento, you definitely don't want to leave your A/C! Great video!

Thanks. This has been our family debate. My and my wife's extended family live in CdA but we live in coastal Southern California. When she lived in CdA she battled the cold winter's jogging along the lake with typical 15 deg weather. She was very active skiing, hiking, etc. but cold and overcast was not her thing. In So.Cal she is happy wearing flip flops year round. So we continue our summers in CdA; want to start skiing there again. The downside to CA is the politics. Keep ID 👍 great.
