Literally every non-PRI party here is essentially an offshoot of the PRI. PRI membership at some point in the life of an older person is almost entirely unotable, particularly if they are no longer a Priísta

The introducción of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo did not do her justice. Ms. Sheinbaum has a Bachelors degree in Physics, a Masters degree in Energy Engineering, and a Doctorate in Environmental Engineering. She is the formar Mayor of the Capital, México City. In adition Ms. Sheinbaum has been the recipient of numerous awards as mayor and international awards as mayor. In addition, she received a Nobel prize. I recommend that in the future there is more research performed before publishing such stories that minimize women.

Ok, this was a frustrating segment to watch. The analysis of both candidates was very superficial Claudia is NOT just the successor of AMLO. Yes, she has said that she will build upon what he accomplished, but she has her own project too. When she started her campaign, she outlined 100 proposals of how she will run the country, covering everything from security, to the environment, to women's issues, to inequality, to foreign investment, to infrastructure and much more. Let's not forget that she is a doctor in physics, she has been involved in social struggles since her student years, she was the major of Mexico City and has an ideological commitment with the Fourth Transformation of the country. So no, her campaign does not rely on "I'm a woman and if you disagree with me, you're misogynistic." If anything, saying that she does and that she solely relies on that, while erasing all of her proposals, is truly misogynistic! Xóchitl, on the other hand, only tries to exploit her womanhood and alleged indigenous background to do identity politics, but the parties that she represents are both right-wing. She is a business woman who placed both her children in her campaign, has been investigated for corruption with her companies, is on record saying that social programmes are a burden and create dependency, she scorned working people who have not been able to buy a home calling them stupid ("güey" is the word she used), and even try to attack Claudia Sheinbaum on the basis of her Jewish ancestry. But when it comes down to her national project, you get nothing, she is not proposing anything, except a return to the failed neoliberal project that Mexicans voted out of power in 2018. And then they wonder why over 60% of Mexicans prefer Claudia...

@@agustingarcia9236 Thanks. I mean, it's kind of annoying the sheer lack of curiosity from US media, even supposedly progressive outlets like this one, about other countries' politics. All the questions were framed from the point of view of what is contentious in the US - identity politics (gender or ethnic background), drug violence, migration, abortion. Those are not big issues for the Mexican people today, and that's why the opposition is failing so miserably; they're supported by USAID and US-based think tanks that thought that the scare tactics that work in the US against the left would work in Mexico too. Big mistake, thankfully! There's one thing I agree with the interviewee on: what's happening in Mexico is fascinating and should be noted and studied. In the midst of a global trend that's veering ever more to the far right, Mexico is consolidating a left-wing project that forced the right wing to masquerade as 'centre-left' with little success, and about to elect a progressive scientist woman as president right in the US's doorstep. It's incredible!

In Mexico, AMLO, introduced something called "Mandate revocation". It is basically a national referendum in which the mexican people decide whether they want the president to be remove or not. It’s a disappointment that this program didn’t mention the Macroeconomic’s achievements made by AMLO. Increasing foreign investment, lowest unemployment rate in the history of Mexico, the trajectory of the mexican currency, worldwide known as “super Peso”, etc. Mexican economy is now in better position of economies such as Spain for example. Given how much the U.S. complains about the border, given that México is our number one trading partner, and given that Mexico is about to elect its first female President (who is of Jewish ancestry) you would think these networks would at least make an effort to cover this election. But they don’t. They focus 100% Trump, Israel, and Ukraine. While those are important topics, they’re not the only topics happening in the world that also have a major impact on the United States. Watching Democracy Now or Al Jazeera is so refreshing. It’s also obvious just how much the mainstream networks purposely ignore.

I am disappointed in Democracy Now. Maria Hinojosa speaks with such authority, it’s embarrassing! This is so superficial it barely scratches the surface of this important election. Just another show of US indifference toward anything outside its borders. Maria didn’t even take her time to seriously research a bit on what is going on with Mexico’s elections! She could have at least watched a KZbin video, one of the thousands that are played daily by Mexico’s independent media! There are so many good reporters that could have done a much much better job. No, Xóchit Galvez is not like Sarah Palin and this is not a normal mexican election. We are between democracy or autocracy and crime violence with Sheinbaum. If the US wants to reduce illlegal inmigration and drugs trafficking, the official candidate Claudia is not the solucion.

Brazil has produced Dilma Rousseff as its first lady president. Argentina has former first lady Christina Fernandez de Kirchner as its first lady president, and later as vice president. Honduras has former first lady Xiomara Castro de Zelaya in power. Chile has Michelle Bachelet. Peru current has Dina Boluarte. Costa Rica had Laura Chinchilla.
