I've been there. It's absolutely stunning. Flying up there from London along the Norwegian coastline was an experience I'll never forget. It is one of the highlights of my life. Sheer natural beauty. It is a wonderful world.

Just gonna manage your expectations: you won’t be able to see the midnight sun during winter, and you won’t be able to see the northern lights during summer, so kinda have to pick one for each trip

I was there about twenty years ago. A magical place but jolly cold. I stayed in the SAS Radisson. One morning, I went for a walk - about a quarter of a mile or so. I popped into a shop to buy a face-mask for the walk back to the hotel. Later, my excursion operator called to let me know that he was cancelling one of my trips because of the weather. 'How about dog-sledding?' I asked. 'Too cold,' said he. 'But I'm dressed warm,' I said. 'It's too cold for the dogs,' he said. But it's still magical, and I'll never forget looking down on Longyearbyen, from a hill-top, after a very long snowmobile ride. Go - but dress warm!
