Hey few things - first off this was one of my most personal videos in a long time and it was important to me to have the nostalgia scenes feel somewhat universal so I shot the majority of this on film whichhhhhh was not cheap so even though I hate being this guy: a like and a comment for the algo would go extra far in my heart on this one. Second, there is no secret vlog. (There never is though right? What secret vlog?) but there is a secret bonus video from my second channel linked in the description. Lastly, I kept sponsors off this video because it felt like the wrong one for that vibe so if you’re interested in supporting the channel further and also getting (many) hours of bonus videos consider joining the channel. Okay that’s all. I love you. I hope this video is meaningful to you. I put a lot of love into it. 🖤

I've been thinking a lot about the past / present / future versions of myself lately, so this video was awesome and helped me link those three people in a healthier way. I struggle to feel nostalgic at all with the absolute sensory bombardment that is the modern world. Yet your videos have a way of calming things down, and bringing out that hopeful/grateful feeling. Thank you, Mr. Polaroid Therapist.

Damn, I loved this. There was such authentic and thought provoking reflections through out the video and the summary at the end was so beautiful, literally goosebumps. I especially loved the idea that our future self with nostalgificate and long back to what we are experiences right now, and the power and beauty of being nostalgic also about the present. What a masterpiece, Shaffer!

My best friend and I used to go snowboarding on Tuckerman Ravine, a backcountry hike/ski spot on Mount Washington in NH in our early 20s. We returned there after about a decade with completely different lives, and it was so nostalgic because of how it was still the same place, but we were there experiencing it from a different perspective. It’ll always be one of my favorite places. My suggestion for life, read as many books as you can. Go places and see things. And build life long family relationships. Life is beautiful.

Your filmmaking is great, but what is really top tier is the humanity that you bring to these projects. We certainly live in some weird times, but I agree that we shouldn't take this for granted, as true joy can still be found, at least for those of us lucky enough to not be living in a conflict zone, or any number of other situations that can prevent it. I truly believe immersing ourselves in nature is a huge part of retaining that joy for life and it allows us to really appreciate the present moment (as do the extreme sports, though i'm more about the snowboarding and can't skate for s*** lol). Great work, brother! Keep at it! This is some of the best stuff you can find on the interwebs!

Andy J. Pizza over at Creative Pep Talk has described nostalgia (bad nostalgia) as "the ghost of gratitude we didn't express" and that really resonated with me. You're just being haunted by the times you weren't wholeheartedly dunking your whole brain and body in the world around you. I think, also, that good nostalgia is like a much cooler ghost that lets you make eye contact with a version of you that doesn't exist anymore across a single moment

Beautiful fillmaking I’ve come to see what you’re describing as “insincere nostalgia” as almost a mental or psychological fault in a lot of people, like a coping mechanism or a dopamine valve such as substance abuse. I don’t really know how to explain it. But it’s a way of removing yourself from the present moment and escaping discomfort. So I found your film moving and relevant and very thought provoking. Nicely done.
