In March 2011, one of the deadliest disasters in Japan's history occurred. A massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami resulted in a catastrophic nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The area surrounding the plant was deemed uninhabitable due to dangerous levels of radiation, creating a ghost town frozen in time. Join us on a haunting tour of the abandoned Fukushima radiation zone to uncover the secrets and devastation left behind. Explore the eerie ruins and experience the haunting atmosphere of a once-bustling town now left to decay. Discover the impact of the disaster on the local community and get a glimpse of what life was like before the incident. Don't miss our in-depth examination of the state of Fukushima today and the ongoing efforts to clean up the radioactive debris. This is a journey you won't want to miss! Subscribe to our channel for more explorations like this one, and don't forget to like and share this video with your friends.

This was a life changing event for me. I was at Namie elementary school, 20km from the reactor that exploded. Thankfully I wasn't affected by the radiation a decade after. I really wish I had more chance to talk with my classmates, because after the evacuation, It was like I got respawned as a new person, but without any friend from the past left. It's been a sad childhood, but I was able to grow out of it😊

@@ktj5253 Hey, I was 14 back then. 1week from my elementary graduation. The earthquake started slow, but gradually changed to a bouncy movement, it was like rolling down a hill. But we take evacuation drills seriously in Japan, so 600+ students including me were already at the field within less than 3min.

I am sorry this happened to you. I have watched several documentaries on the disaster and what broke my heart with deep sadness was the elementary school children who lost their lives by not being led to higher ground when the water came rushing in. I always think of them when watching videos like this. I hope you are doing well in life.

As someone in Japan who lived through this and went to the Tohoku region a month after the disaster (slept in a van for 10 days travelled to affected areas, interviewed, documented, and volunteered for disaster relief), I can say that this was really hard to watch. I had to fast forward through the disaster footage. For those of us in Japan, this is still RECENT history. We are still dealing with this.

@@maxine-charliemaxcaulfield thank you, that’s so kind of you. My family and I were safe far from the disaster, but there are many families still struggling, having been displaced from all those abandoned homes and waiting to be able to return. It’s heartbreaking to see all those precious belongings, like family photos and other personal treasures, trapped in time. Lots of pets were left behind too, I imagine that dog was loved and left behind. So sad that it probably tried to survive, waiting for its loved ones to come back.

Hey Josh, I remember I first found your channel in late 2013 and got introduced to urban decay. I'd already had a slight obsession with historical/abandoned places but I could actually see and experience them in a way because of your videos. After a while, I kinda got disinterested (due to studies, etc) and I found your channel again in 2016 or 2017 when you were posting your videos about Fukushima. Here I am now in 2023, and it feels oddly nostalgic somehow. I've never commented on any of your videos before lol but I somehow wanted to type this out. Really excited to see the rest of the series!

I had been in this area of Japan 2 weeks (to the day) before this happened. I'll never forget waking up to friends asking if I was okay, if my friends were okay. I woke up at home, on the other side of the Pacific. I had a friend stuck in her car for a day waiting for rescue. I had other friends hunting for survivors. I was so removed from it all back home in Canada, but still so connected to it as it happened. I hold a lot of sorrow for this event and I remember it every year.

ive had a shirt that said 'Fukushima' on it for a couple years now and i've never really knew what it meant until last year, when i heard about the situation i felt really bad for the people who were living in Japan during that time. it was sort of heartbreaking

I clearly remember the day this happened I was in school worrying about where abouts my cousin linc was but luckily he was back home in Lincolnshire. I was 15 when this happened and studied about it in history.

Damn! That Master Grade Sinanju @ 56:15 though. Also, an old school MG Hi-Nu and a somewhat customized MG Astray red frame kai.

There’s a nursing home near the power plant that was evacuated. Looking in the windows is looking back to March 2011. Employees cars were still there. I would’ve loved to explore this area with you guys.

Thank you for this, I have always read and watched anything on this disaster. Just watched the Netflix series, but it didn't tell a story of the civilian survivors, only the process the different agencies went through. It really missed that perspective of a normal person trying to survive this and what they went through.
