As a blended (classic) type, I think tucking can actually look quite good, as long as the fabric is very thin and soft and I carefully smooth the folds. Thick stiff fabrics I definitely cannot tuck because it creates those folds as you said. Stiffer fabrics really only work on me if they are tailored, and even then can't be too bulky. In terms of what looks the worst on me, I'd say that beveled lines do look pretty terrible especially when layered. A sweater over an oversized button down shirt for example. It just combines that textured look with bumpy bulk and that looks pretty awful. And to make it even worse, make it gathered somewhere and add loud patterns all over it. I can pull off one oversized item as long as the fabric isn't too bulky and its otherwise very simple. It makes me look a bit more delicate than normal I think.

Classic here as well, and I agree. Tucks can work very well if you know how to do them correctly, there are plenty of hacks that avoid the bulky/fold look. Slightly oversized items can also look very good when paired with a more fitting item, like an oversized denim jacket or sweater over a tube dress. It's just a matter of creating an overall balanced outfit instead of going for an all oversized or all skin tight outfit.

Thanks Merriam for the upload- I am always blown away by your talent and 'eye' (the drawings!). I am FG and well-versed in the topic, but it was helpful to know what the 'opposite' is- i.e. that I need to avoid Soft Dramatic lines. And indeed, long flowy dresses as an example are so unflattering on me. Thank you!

Great video. I enjoy your way of explaining body lines but this video made it very clear. It has confirmed (in case I wasn’t sure) that I’m blended type (dramatic classic). This is more noticeable as I get older!! But also could be more noticeable because oversized garments and casual/natural style garments are very fashionable /popular right now and I don’t look good in them at all. Put me in a tailored garment and I shine. I find casual looks a challenge though. I’m experimenting with “smart” outfits and swapping one “smart” item with one casual item to produce a casual outfit that looks good on me (eg tailored skirt, tailored shirt, neat boots and a fitted bomber jacket - the latter being the casual item OR wide leg jeans (casual item) with tucked in button down shirt, belt and neat heeled boots (flat boots or sneakers with the wide leg jeans doesn’t look great on me at all). Thanks for emphasising texture as not being well suited for blended types. ❤

Love this video! Can you make a video about what effects each type would make when dressing in each type’s lines? You’ve done some of it like gamine dressed in classic lines and I think dramatic dressed in romantic lines, but I would love if you could go through systematically for each type dressing as every other type and what it can look like on them ❤

It's good that you showed with examples. I'm some type of Sharpened, but I can pull off short and frilly lines better than I can Beveled, so I was surprised to see that's not the big no in either of them.

I only know what half of the words you said means. More visuals probably would have been more helpful for me. I’m a soft natural (I think) I lost 100 pounds & trying to lose more so I’m learning more about my body every month.

Yes, this wasn't very beginner friendly. I've been at this for a while and could follow along...but I would imagine, that it wasn't much use to a newbie. I'd recommend watching the videos where she introduced her method/terminology. It's not that many and you really need that foundation, to get any use out of the newer videos.

@@raraavis7782 I've been with Miriam from the beginning. I still have to work hard to translate to her terminology. I still don't know why those terms had to be changed.
@raraavis7782

@@Anita-silver Maybe some sort of 'trademark' issue. She does this professionally, after all. And I would imagine, that you have to get certified and maybe pay fees, if you want to use the Kibbe system as a style coach. That's just my guess, mind you. It's just words, that describe proportions and bone structure, after all. It does seem silly, that someone can 'own' these, but it's probably the case. I kinda like her more descriptive terminology though. Words like 'dramatic' or 'romantic' carry a lot of connotations, that go way beyond what type of 'lines' or details flatter your body type. I'm more of a 'sciency' than 'artsy' person, though. Maybe that's why it appeals to me. I'm bevelled-sharp and I can 'see' how that accurately describes my somewhat pronounced but blunt bone structure and long lines. Whereas the term 'flamboyant natural' never really spoke to me.

You are so accurate!!! I am smack in the middle of SN/SG. I like how you explain the complexities! I have a hard time because I have a strong shoulder but I’m very muscular but curvy too (think Shakira but more robust/vavavoom). I try to mix my lines some softy romantic lines but I need a little structure. I get so confused sometimes 😂

Something that helped me determine I am a blended type is how clothes lay on my body through the torso. I absolutely need a smooth line from the bust to the hip or I look frumpy, disheveled or even overweight.

@lisakathleen5768

The new naming convention is to specify that Merriam is only referring to the lines of the body, whereas Kibbe was originally intended to be a combo body lines and style essence system. It also avoids confusion with Kitchener and other style essence systems that use the same terms as Kibbe (dramatic, romantic, etc.)

Hi 👋 Can you possibly make a video typing Barbara palvin? Vogue made a very fun video of her trying on and showing us 7 different outfits she likes to wear for each day of the week. It would be so fun to hear your analysis of them and why/how they work for her. It’s called “every outfit Barbara Palvin wears in a week” by Vogue. If you can or if you want to! it would be so awesome

Ok. I really need help. I just want people to guess to find a way. I am short in height (5'0ft). Short neck, short hands, short and narrow fingers, rounded shoulders ,no collerbone, moderate weight (50kg), extra flesh on hands under shoulder which makes hands look wide while wearing sleeveless, heart shaped face but rounded cheek, short feet, lower part of the body is wider than upper part, waist line is clear. Please someone guess something 🥲

Hi Miriam, you make nice vlogs, I feel that I am typed FG more by exclusion than by conviction, I am smaller (type Selena Gomez, Camilla Mendez, and also Eva Green) 165, have broader shoulders and am otherwise free apart from my bosom. yang (love the dc lines) my face is also yang with big eyes, full lips and a wider jaw, I'm a CS and can have bright combinations with patterns (I even need them) but with some moderate lines, and also monochomatic looks nice (striking lipstick/earrings) almost everything looks good (no jeans checked shirt) but maybe that is exactly what FG is :)gr Sigrid
