The Nuremberg Trials: 75 Years On

A legal lecture by the Master of Magdalene College, Sir Christopher Greenwood, marking the 75th anniversary of the start of the Nuremberg Trials.
Originally delivered at the Gray’s Inn annual Birkenhead Lecture, Sir Christopher will talk about the Nuremberg Trial as an international concept, the application of that concept in practice, and an appraisal of the Nuremberg process - was it a corrupt case of victor’s justice or a trailblazing development of international law?
Before becoming Master of Magdalene in October 2020, Sir Christopher was a judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), on which he served from 2009 to 2018. Before his election to the ICJ, he was Professor of International Law at the London School of Economics and a barrister who regularly appeared as counsel before many tribunals, including the ICJ, the European Court of Human Rights and the English courts. He is co-editor of the International Law Reports and an Honorary Fellow of the Lauterpacht Institute for International Law (Cambridge). A graduate of Magdalene College where he was also a Fellow and more recently Honorary Fellow, he was the first person in his immediate family to go to university.
