Greeting internet!! Come along on my apartment hunt with me :) It's a stressful process but I hope to offer some tips with sharing my process. I didn't end up going with any of these apartments (one got taken + the other two were a bit too pricey I decided), but I'm taking these learnings with me and seeing more this week! Another vlog coming soon explaining my new strategy + showing more spaces! PS: I'm so lucky and grateful to be able to afford to live here - I want to make that clear though I don't think I properly expressed that in the vlog. XOXO Katy

Would you ever look in Brooklyn? I live in Clinton Hill and it's so quiet, beautiful tree lined streets and quintessential NYC brownstones... plus we have amazing restaurants and bars too! It takes me 15 minutes to get downtown (3 subway stops!), so it's the best of both worlds. You'll get the quiet but also be super accessible to the city. It's been so good for my mental health living here!

I understand you so much regarding being sensitive to noise. I had to leave my previous apartment because I could not bear the noise anymore. My parents always make fun of me for that but I'm so much happier now and should have left the old one so much sooner even though I loved it...

Not sure if you’d live there, but the UES is incredible if you’re looking for an affordable, quiet neighborhood. The 4 train can get you to Union square in 20 minutes, so you still have access to the “cooler” downtown neighborhoods. I’m 24 and have lived here for three years and love it!

I like the charm of the pre-war buildings too, but older buildings typically do have mice. So, I'd definitely check to see if there's something in Brooke's or Danielle's buildings. They have doormen and elevators and no noise (nor mice😆)

You are just darling I saw you in a beautiful pink dress on shorts and loved it. After I commented on your last vlog video, I now understand why your moving. Like I think I mentioned in my last comment (not sure)I’m originally from NYC and I’m so angry that during Covid landlords reduced their prices and now they are having people leave for various reasons and of course the rent will go up. I’m sensitive to sound too so I get ya. I’m 61 now lol

Some things I’ve learned from my many moves in NYC to help anyone that is moving in the city: 1. Read OpenIgloo reviews on the building (and any sister buildings) for any complaints! 2. Units with a livable basement/cellar that is below ground level can easily flood. I’m dealing with this now and I wasn’t aware to ask before signing the lease. 3. You might hear rats by the trash at night and all entry way noise if you live in a 1st floor unit. 4. Sketchy landlords/managements will list a unit in their building multiple times. The vacant apartment next door to me was listed 4 times under different unit numbers. “Rented” after 3 days and then relisted under a different unit letter. Look at the units in the building! 5. Verizon Fios >>>>> Spectrum wifi 🫢

Hi Katy! I am relocating to NYC in a couple months. Do you mainly use StreetEasy to find apartments? Also, how do you avoid apartment scams/have you ever almost been scammed?
@Jessiyeajin Жыл бұрын
I use StreetEasy but found my last apartment through Zillow! I would look at the apartment building’s listing history to make sure the management/landlord/broker isn’t listing and “renting” the same unit multiple times under different unit numbers/letters. Landlords will do this to make it look like a listing hasn’t been on the market for as long as it actually has

Loved the video!! How do you manage looking at and finding a new apartment before you lease is up\ not having two rents due at the same time, in other words how do you line it up?
@Jessiyeajin Жыл бұрын
Most apartments in NYC will list apartments that are available “immediately” unless it otherwise says when it will be available for move in! So I’ve had friends start looking at apartments about 2 weeks before lease end date
