When i heard "Im doing this full time now" i SQUEALED. Im such a huge fan of your work, your so incredibly talented and i look up to you SO MUCH. The first ever cosplay piece i sewed was a witch hat for my Phantombur cosplay to vidcon, last year, my first ever convention, and i couldn't have done it without your Mona hat tutorial. It genuinely made me feel so confident and so proud of myself and i just kept repeating "im a 13 year old with zero sewing experience, and i made a whole hat." Thanks for your amazing content, you've inspired me so much and idk how to thank you, and also congrats! Im happy that you can do what you enjoy full time :)

"I just want to walk around the dealers room and have people tell me I'm pretty" is the most relatable quote. I always say I like someone's cosplay even passing by, I know how much serotonin i get from someone saying that I know people will likely too.

Watching the whole process really brought me back to my memories of when I attempted to create a Kingdom Hearts Donald Duck cosplay nearly ten years ago having ZERO experience with even touching a sewing machine lol this really makes me want to attempt it one more time :p Seeing as I think this showed up in my suggestions cos I was watching some videos on crocheting as I suddenly started this crochet bag that I want to make to carry my Steam Deck around LOL

Okay, commenting again after I've watched the whole thing - I LOVE LOVE LOVE your message at the end. My early years in cosplay I was surrounded by some people who viewed people who cosplayed the same thing as really vicious competition. When I finally got out of that and got into a group of people all cosplaying the same character who supported each other, it was like a completely different hobby. (shoutout to the Agent Carter ladies heyoooooo)

man there was a whole genre of sakizou homestuck cosplay we called it "fancy tier" and there was a couple fanartists that drew it but now i see they were 100% inspired by sakizou
@officialghosty518 Жыл бұрын
I designed a fancy tier Jade outfit about a year or two ago, wanting to cosplay Homestuck again after so long, and I had this same realization. I wasn't sure which came first (fancy tier or the popularization of cosplaying Sakizo) but I definitely saw a pattern of fanciful rococo costume design in the community picking up speed.
@desiree913 Жыл бұрын
I remember those! I think the artist rumminov started them and they had a design for like every character
@SpookyDeerArt4 күн бұрын
i had no idea the two were connected, i remember being absolutely obsessed with the fancy tier designs i would see pop up as both art and people cosplaying said art... i've wanted to do something similar and maybe one day i will! (especially considering how this last year i've just been compulsively watching cosplay crafting videos omg)

"Not everybody likes sewing and not everybody likes making stuff. Especially when you're two strawberries in and youre already regretting it. Or your two yards into a ten yard lattice- it feels like suffering. But when you take the time to put yourself into a cosplay by hook, or by needle or by glue, there is no greater feeling than putting all of that on for the first time and getting to say, "I did that"" I'm sobbing 🎉 proud of you for always looking for new techniques and making just the prettiest of gowns ❤

I made Sakizo's Maschera Noir last year, and even though only 6 people at DragonCon spotted it as a Sakizo design, I still got non-stop compliments on how beautiful it was by everyone I passed. It's BY FAR the most intricate cosplay I've ever done, and probably will ever do. But man, that sense of accomplishment when you get to say "I actually made that!" is well worth the entire year of sewing it took me to make.
@melancholystorm Жыл бұрын
That final quote of “I did that” spoke so much to me. I’ve been in a pretty big creative burnout and seeing the joy of creation in this project -and the rest of the channel- is a major source of inspiration and motivation. Obviously there’s still a great way to go to get out of this burnout and art-blocked phase, but I’m so glad I am reminded of my love to create each video you make.

adding onto 6:25 cause im a huge crochet and knit fiber arts nerd lmao: tension has got to be the hardest thing to understand and fully get a hand on when you crochet. like they said, the tighter and more taut you hold your yarn the more close together your stitches will be. use this to your advantage !!!! when making amigurumi, it’s always good to have a slightly tighter tension so that your stitches are closer together and don’t show any stuffing in between them. there’s also a difference between yarning *over* and yarning *under.* yarning under is used a lot in amigurumi as it gives a tighter, more bundled stitch, and will give that solid, not holey fabric that you’re looking for. when making something like a scarf, yarning over would be ideal, as it would give a bouncier, lighter and airy fabric than if you yarn undered

Just a quick tip for anyone making a skirt facing for a curved hem. Instead of using bias cut fabric I will use the bottom 6-8 inches (however wide the facing needs to be) of the skirt pattern. So it's an identical match to the skirt bottom and goes on really nicely.

I was never into cosplay that much but after watching your videos, you put so much love and dedication and time into all your pieces. All your struggles, mistakes, relief, love, compassion, just so many emotions all flowing on a beautiful piece you dedicated months to make, all the blood sweat and tears poured into all of your cosplays and its so amazing to see! i think that is a big part of what cosplay is about, not just putting some fabric on to be a character but really manifesting your skill into a beautiful art form and showing how anything is possible if you put your mind to it and not everything has to be perfect. A community of people who equally understand the amount of time and work and love gets poured into every single piece of material and honestly that's just so beautiful. Please keep doing what you're doing you're amazing!

Was rewatching this video for the 100th time cause listening to Sarah explain is always soothing but one thing that I wanted to say about armor being newer is that is so interesting that there's an evolution and "trends" in the armor making too. At first worbla was the star of the show, then EVA foam and now 3D printing. This makes me love cosplaying even more because it's just constantly evolving in terms of techniques and materials 💖💖💖
