The "I'm just making this poofy Miku cosplay and I'm done" to "How hard can it be to get into lolita again" to "I'm making a Sakizo." pipeline is real and my wallet is trembling for this new hyperfixation on sewing in falling into! Strawberry Supremacy!!

"I just want to walk around the dealers room and have people tell me I'm pretty" is the most relatable quote. I always say I like someone's cosplay even passing by, I know how much serotonin i get from someone saying that I know people will likely too.

When i heard "Im doing this full time now" i SQUEALED. Im such a huge fan of your work, your so incredibly talented and i look up to you SO MUCH. The first ever cosplay piece i sewed was a witch hat for my Phantombur cosplay to vidcon, last year, my first ever convention, and i couldn't have done it without your Mona hat tutorial. It genuinely made me feel so confident and so proud of myself and i just kept repeating "im a 13 year old with zero sewing experience, and i made a whole hat." Thanks for your amazing content, you've inspired me so much and idk how to thank you, and also congrats! Im happy that you can do what you enjoy full time :)

Watching the whole process really brought me back to my memories of when I attempted to create a Kingdom Hearts Donald Duck cosplay nearly ten years ago having ZERO experience with even touching a sewing machine lol this really makes me want to attempt it one more time :p Seeing as I think this showed up in my suggestions cos I was watching some videos on crocheting as I suddenly started this crochet bag that I want to make to carry my Steam Deck around LOL

I'm in the same boat as you! Very first sewing project is a whole ass cosplay. I'm on the last week and making nice progres, will likely finish by con! It's really rewarding to see the fabric turn into Qiqi (the character I'm cosplaying). Also, made a scrap toile and one that is actually a nice summer dress, so that's nice!

Okay, commenting again after I've watched the whole thing - I LOVE LOVE LOVE your message at the end. My early years in cosplay I was surrounded by some people who viewed people who cosplayed the same thing as really vicious competition. When I finally got out of that and got into a group of people all cosplaying the same character who supported each other, it was like a completely different hobby. (shoutout to the Agent Carter ladies heyoooooo)

"Not everybody likes sewing and not everybody likes making stuff. Especially when you're two strawberries in and youre already regretting it. Or your two yards into a ten yard lattice- it feels like suffering. But when you take the time to put yourself into a cosplay by hook, or by needle or by glue, there is no greater feeling than putting all of that on for the first time and getting to say, "I did that"" I'm sobbing 🎉 proud of you for always looking for new techniques and making just the prettiest of gowns ❤

man there was a whole genre of sakizou homestuck cosplay we called it "fancy tier" and there was a couple fanartists that drew it but now i see they were 100% inspired by sakizou
@officialghosty518

I designed a fancy tier Jade outfit about a year or two ago, wanting to cosplay Homestuck again after so long, and I had this same realization. I wasn't sure which came first (fancy tier or the popularization of cosplaying Sakizo) but I definitely saw a pattern of fanciful rococo costume design in the community picking up speed.

adding onto 6:25 cause im a huge crochet and knit fiber arts nerd lmao: tension has got to be the hardest thing to understand and fully get a hand on when you crochet. like they said, the tighter and more taut you hold your yarn the more close together your stitches will be. use this to your advantage !!!! when making amigurumi, it’s always good to have a slightly tighter tension so that your stitches are closer together and don’t show any stuffing in between them. there’s also a difference between yarning *over* and yarning *under.* yarning under is used a lot in amigurumi as it gives a tighter, more bundled stitch, and will give that solid, not holey fabric that you’re looking for. when making something like a scarf, yarning over would be ideal, as it would give a bouncier, lighter and airy fabric than if you yarn undered

"Crocheters always lose their crochet hooks" feels like SUCH an understatement fr fr. Whenever I start crocheting again (I go through heavy bursts of inspiration and drive which wanes during the long tedious projects Yarn Goddess eats for brunch) the first thing I do is fail to find the whole cloche I chrocheted in which I stored my crochet hooks LAST time. I then buy a whole new set of the sizes I use (there's about 7 on the reg rotation, and two I use for fine or giant work, which I do rarely), then make a carrier for them (ideally NOTHING like the last one). The last step is putting this new hook book away in my yarn stash only to find, NOT last time's kit, but the one from the time before that which I haven't seen in six years and which I spent like four YEARS using. So something I made TEN YEARS ago. I've moved like 14 times since then! HOW DID THIS ONE RESURFACE?! WHERE'S THE ONE FROM LAST CHRISTMAS?! I lose ENTIRE COLLECTIONS of hooks all the time. And of course I lose whichever one I use most on like a weekly basis, only to find years later that every ball of yarn in my collection has one of that size jammed in it somewhere. Ah, crochet. How I love and loathe thee.
@cyn3b

Ive always used the straight hooks and prefer them over the thick ones. I started crocheting when I was 13. I’ll be 69 years old in 3 months. Hooks are like yarn. You have to try them all and see what feels best in your hand. Some new crocheters may find they prefer one hook over another, but do try them all. I love thread crochet and have made many beautiful projects over the years. I love making bedspreads and table cloths. I make crocheted baby dresses. But I do love the large projects best. Good luck to all and keep this art alive by sharing and teaching.

I was never into cosplay that much but after watching your videos, you put so much love and dedication and time into all your pieces. All your struggles, mistakes, relief, love, compassion, just so many emotions all flowing on a beautiful piece you dedicated months to make, all the blood sweat and tears poured into all of your cosplays and its so amazing to see! i think that is a big part of what cosplay is about, not just putting some fabric on to be a character but really manifesting your skill into a beautiful art form and showing how anything is possible if you put your mind to it and not everything has to be perfect. A community of people who equally understand the amount of time and work and love gets poured into every single piece of material and honestly that's just so beautiful. Please keep doing what you're doing you're amazing!

Tbh I don't like strawberries, but my god I can't get enough of your strawberry cosplays! The craftsmanship is unparalleled to any other strawberry clothing I've seen. You've done a wonderful job, I can't wait for the next video! ♥️🍓

Watched this while ramping up to take on the project of a Norwegian festdrakt (like a bunad, but not any official pattern). I was feeling really overwhelmed having had just bought the patterns (Sy din egen fæstdrakt - Fæbrik), and torn on whether I should just wait and order the kit to embroider a more "proper" bunad or not. Your video, especially you're reflection at the end, made me realise that making my own "unofficial" festdrakt will teach me a lot about the best ways to make such a significant garment well, and prepare me, probably better than any other project, for the day when I can venture into traditions. Your dress is stunning, and the amount of craft and love you have put into it is inspiring. Thank you.

Wow! You’re amazing and watching your vids is such fun. I love seeing the process, your enthusiasm, your frustration, your screw-ups and how you fix them…everything. I know you put a lot into editing your vids too. I’m so happy for you that you can now do this full time and hopefully that means we’ll be seeing more content from you! I would love to see how you customized the red shoes for this costume. They looked perfect and I’m sure you modified a pair to give them the right look. Even if it didn’t involve sewing, I think it’s part of the creation and shouldn’t be left out. Bravo for everything! The cosplay, the vid, and the new career path!

I'd never even considered crochet cosplay, that's so cool! I learned how to crochet when I was kid and picked it back up again a few years ago. Somehow I got on this kick where I adapt Korean and Russian lace doily patterns into net bags for produce? They are... stupidly fancy for a bunch of onions but I like diagram patterns and really don't need a bunch of doilies so bags. Lots of bags lol

That last part section literally had me in tears in the office kitchen. It's so true and amazing how much making even the smallest cosplays and learning from people in the community can uplift. Congratulations on a beautiful cosplay. Every time I see a new piece from you, or a new video, you always out do yourself and it's so so cool. Much love from Australia.

there are more specific piping feet that have bumps that the rope/piping will fit under to allow u to sew as close as possible but i love the foot you used, as for the corner its difficult but you did exactly what i have to do at work, the snip at the base is super important but it'll just take practice. ALSO all the detail and interviews for the costume made me so happy. so many creators that i love were featured/discussed and it makes me so much more happy to have found your channel and content. Ive been on hiatus with cosplay for around 3 years now and you've definitely been part of the reason Ive come back. Thank you ♥

Just a quick tip for anyone making a skirt facing for a curved hem. Instead of using bias cut fabric I will use the bottom 6-8 inches (however wide the facing needs to be) of the skirt pattern. So it's an identical match to the skirt bottom and goes on really nicely.

Was rewatching this video for the 100th time cause listening to Sarah explain is always soothing but one thing that I wanted to say about armor being newer is that is so interesting that there's an evolution and "trends" in the armor making too. At first worbla was the star of the show, then EVA foam and now 3D printing. This makes me love cosplaying even more because it's just constantly evolving in terms of techniques and materials 💖💖💖

I tried taking on a sewing project over a year ago (possibly even closer to two years now). It was a simple one - I wanted to make Alice Angel's dress from BATIM. But the patterns I found required adjustments, mock ups, sewing, resewing, weathering... I got overwhelmed. I haven't picked up a sewing needling since. But after stumbling across this channel once again, I was reminded of why I was inspired to try in the first place. I've been in a terrible mental state for the past what feels like forever, but that project I put down gave me something to work towards, even if it was something I wasn't quite ready for. So, I just want to say thank you Sarah, for giving some random 17 year old on the internet the inspiration to try again. If you ever see this comment, you will still never know just how much it means

I love sewing and costume enthusiasts like you because there's other people like me who will geek out about fabric, lace, seams, etc and it's not competitive or gatekeepy or Ill natured in anyway. It's like "yes! I found my people!!" moment 🤣 Sometimes in the cosplay community there are people who can be really rude or act like they are better than everyone else which is just not my type of scene but I still love cosplay and sewing and designing so much 😭♥️

I love seeing crochet used in costumes and cosplay! I've been crocheting for a few years now but my first crochet garment was my Naruto cardigan affectionately referred to as my "nartigan." It is a crochet cardigan in the style of his blue and orange jacket from the original series. I was intimidated by the idea of a sweater so making it something that I considered a little goofy lowered that threshold. It didnt need to be perfect! It was just me, a youtube tutorial, a crochet hook, 30 bucks worth of red heart supersaver acrylic and a silly idea. I hate the texture of the acrylic so I have only worn it out twice, once for halloween and once for a small con, but it was so so fun to make and being able to say "thanks I made it!" when people comment on it is such fun. I'm new here but congrats on going full time! wishing you all the best! Your work is really beautiful!

This June i am going to my first con ever, and i am going in cosplay. One of the cosplayers that has inspierd me well making this cosplay was you. I was about to quit making my costume, when soddenly the words 'Making Ranni the witch' can up on youtube. i clicked on it and was instently back in to my crafty self. With this in mind , i am proud to say ,the reason i am still cosplaying to this day is because of Sarah Spaceman. Thank you forever
