Dr. Rubin My understanding is the Epidural Steroid injections are not FDA approved, are these Occipital Nerve Block injections FDA approved? Does the steroid injected have any detrimental effects on Cervical Vertebrae? Thank you for your time.

Both epidurals and occipital blocks are covered by insurance. The FDA is specific to medications. The steroids used are FDA approved, but the use in occipital and epidurals etc may be considered off label. That being said, physicians use many meds off label. In regards to effects on bone, I would try to limit steroid shots to 4 times a year or less when possible to minimize long term effects on bone

Can you do an occipital nerve block on the same day you do cervical prolotherapy injections?
@theoryofwarfare Жыл бұрын
Yes you could but not in the exact same body part.

Prolotherapy is a different technique and can in theory be combined with steroid injections. I would not personally do both in the neck at the same time. My rationale being if you have a complication or feel increased pain you do not know which medication is the culprit

I use low dose steroids with the block. Otherwise it will wear off in an hour or two
