That whole thing stunk. 1. Chuck Daly is the architect of the Jordan rules. How is it, you hate the players but not the coach? 2. Up to that point, Scottie Pippen had never made an all NBA team. Why was his spot solidified? Or his opinion considered? 3. Why are they picking Daly and McCloskey to run the team, while saying the Pistons were bad for basketball? They PUT THE TEAM TOGETHER!! 4. David Falk, Michael Jordan's agent, said that no players voiced opposition to Isiah being on the team? How does he know? 5. Rod Thorn, the selection boss, said that it was good question, when asked why Isiah was left off the team - implying, he doesn't know and supposedly selected the players. 6. These guys all played with Isiah in all-star games and charity basketball games. I personally saw Isiah throwing lobs to Michael Jordan during Magic's charity all-star game. They had no problems with him during those times? Why the Dream Team? It was grimy to keep Isiah off the team and they know it. That's why nobody wants to cop to it.

@@Mr.Hall3850 not necessarily. Remember, the team was selected in the late summer/early fall of 1991 so this was BEFORE Jordan became the ultimate iconic winner he became. The Lakers and Celtics were still the face of the league. That said, YES Jordan was extremely powerful especially since the NBA wanted to sell the game globally and Jordan was its most marketable star...but that doesn't mean that he ran everything. He respected Magic and he respected Bird so if both those guys were on board w/Isiah playing, then they could've pushed to get Isiah on that team. THOSE two having the problem w/Isiah was more of a factor than Jordan having an issue with him.

Its funny because those comments the Bulls made about the Pistons not being deserving champs, etc also applied to Chuck Daly who was the coach that devised the Jordan Rules and the Pistons sytle of play. True Chuck Daly did devised the Jordan Rules but Isaiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer and the other players on the Pistons made it personal when they took fouling to a personal level by trying to cause them bodily harm with potential career ending fouls to MJ and Pippen sir. Yes the game was much physical back then but when it came to Jordan and the Bull's, the Pistons took things to a whole different level than when they played physical against the Celtics or the Lakers. Check the games out for yourself!!!! When a grown ass man jumps on another man's back when he is going up for a lay-up and slam he down on the hardwood floor that had very little give, that's way past a flagrant foul, thats down right assault.
@Israel-nb7ip4 жыл бұрын
@@abdatruthteller5895 dude, I watched all of those games as they happened in real time. What it boils down to is that Daley had control over how that team played and what they actually did on the court. You can't separate the coach from what the players did under his watch. Everything you said about about the Pistons vs the Bulls can be said about any number of physical rivalries from the 80s/90s (Heat vs Knicks, Pacers vs Knicks, Celtics vs Pistons, Sixers vs Celtics etc). Look at what Laimbeer did to Larry Bird in the '87 conf finals when he literally twisted him into a pretzel on a hard foul and how Parish retaliated the next game where he almost knocked Laimbeer unconscious with a two piece cheap shot from behind. Its ridiculous to make this about the Bulls only. Daly was the general while Isiah and Laimbeer were sergeants. Just a fact.

Because rough play wasn’t the primary issue. They could deal with the style of play. People forget that the style they had wasn’t exclusive to them and other teams had a similar strategy like the knicks and so on. The bulk of the issue was the disrespect of walking off the court and not losing respectfully when the bulls had done that for them. That’s exacerbated their issues with IT. He wasn’t solely a physical player but he was also a dick in other ways as well. When Daly was interviewed after the bulls won he gave full credit that was due and respected the foe. That’s the primary rationale. Similar to why they didn’t have issues with other players like Dumars who did show the respect. It’s one thing to play a physical game but show respect and class at the end but an entirely different one to do things how IT did and never showing respect. IT tried to recruit Chuck into the walk off and he very visibly had an issue with it and turned his back on IT. He didn’t participate in the things that truly made them upset - physical play was one thing but disrespect was another.

Rob is wrong it was Magic Johnson who kept Isaiah off of the Dream Team Michael Jordan did not feel intimidated or inferior against no other player so Isiah playing when the team wouldn't have bothered him at all because he would have still did his thing if people remember Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas had issues at that point and Magic Johnson didn't want to share the point guard spot with Isaiah he wanted it all for himself so he was the main guy who said he did not want Isiah on the team and for Isaiah if you make your bed you got to lay it at he locked Jordan out August 1st all star game tried to do a bunch of other underhanded things towards Jordan so when you do bad you get bad done back to you

Chuck didn’t want Isiah because he knew that Isiah was alienated from many players on DT1. Coach Daly even said that Thomas was a deserving player, but he wasn't selected. Enough guys from that team have spoke and wrote on the subject, i.e. Drexler, Pippen, Daly, Magic, and Barkley. In an interview, Drexler said although Isiah earned a spot on the team, everyone would be together for long stretches of time where getting along is required. Michael Jordan even said that Isiah being left off DT1 was a condition that came from higher places within USA Basketball. He couldn't get along, so he didn’t belong. Glad I could shed some light on this matter.

It's not even a question Chuck should have resigned as the coach of the dream team their success was connected to each other before he was the coach of the Pistons he was a failed coach at Cleveland. You get a once in a generation type of talent that buys in to the system sacrifices personal numbers stays disciplined and brought you your only championships you ever had how hard is it to be loyal to that and how do you look at him or the other guys in the face after that 🤦🏿♂️

Isiah is the reason Chuck Daly got to coach that team in the first place. That would be like Phil Jackson saying, "Bye Michael, I'm gonna go coach Isiah & the rest of the dream team".

Hello, does anybody know why Dominique Wilkins was not part of the dream team neither? at the time of the selection Mullin and him had similar numbers, but Wilkins had already a much larger legacy and was a superstar in the late 80's. I understand that from a style of play point of view, Mullin was a better fit, but I'm under the impresssion it was less important than having the biggest superstars in the team.

No idea why people are saying Isiah Thomas should have taken Christian Laettner's spot. The plan was always to have one spot symbolically reserved for a collegiate player, and they went with Laettner. Thomas would never have had Laettner's spot in any circumstance - he could only have gotten in at the expense of John Stockton, and turned out the other superstars favored Stockton.

Ladies and Gentlemen this back and forth is not solving anything! Isiah and Jordan should set aside their pride and egos and admit their wrong doings as grown men. Only then this will get resolved.

I remember when all of this went down back then. Had Chuck Daily stepped forward and spoke up or stepped aside it would have spoke volumes. The biggest take away also is this. In team sports you are taught to ride or die with the team that got you to that mountain top. Chuck didn't do that. He threw Isaiah Thomas under the bus so he got get the spotlight of coaching the greatest team ever assembled. Rob is 100% right on this one. Zeke should have made that roster. Chuck Daily should have stood up for his guy that helped slap 2 rings on his fingers.

13:18 Rob Parker, all you have to do is look at Magic Johnson's words from 2009's book and connect the dots. He stated point blank that 'nobody wanted him on the team'. Another thing you can do is go and interview each and every member of the Dream Team personally and ask them point blank. Or you can just be the normal 'speculative' journalists and say the obvious and blame Michael Jordan over and over again but without any tangible proof

Btw I think Chuck Daly was put in a tough spot. From my understanding he committed to coaching before selections. Had he protested for Isiah Thomas he would have risked losing the players' respect from day one (Favoritism). It might have hindered his ability to coach the team enough that he would end up stepping down.

The Bulls were on top of the world and they were not going to play if Zeke was in. The drama if Scottie and MJ was off the roster is an actual fact. Zeke was a punk and his personality was his own demise. It shows that sportsmanship really does matter to a national team roster to be happy.

To those who buy into this notion that Isiah was whispering around the league about Magic's possibly being gay. Those whispers or rumors were actually started by Magic himself the National Enquirer& his teammate A C Green. Magic was photographed by the National Enquirer at a Hollywood party booed up to a known homosexual men, Jermaine Jones, who later became a transsexual. The fact that everyone who's old enough to remember this are now acting like they never saw or heard it is weird asf to me. It was all over the tabloid at the time. Then A C Green did a live interview where he said he did not agree with Magic Johnson lifestyle & that he was f--kin everything in Hollywood. Notice he didn't say every woman in Hollywood. That's when the rumors spreaded like wildfire. How the media completely twisted it to make Isiah Thomas the face of the rumor & a villan is a lesson in the power of propaganda to make people believe what they're told instead of what they actually seen with their own 2 eyes. Those pictures are still out there & any real journalist could easily dig them up if he really wanted to. But most wouldn't dare for fear that they themselves would no longer have access these A-list parties so they keep their mouth shut.

Now more than ever, I'm very curious about what transpired between Isiah Thomas and Chuck Daly between June 1991 and April 1992, when they lost to Knicks in first round. Isiah must have been furious with Chuck for not backing him up on Dream Team, and Chuck was likely angry that Isiah didn't listen to Chuck right there on the court 5/27/1991, when Chuck advised "Isiah I disagree, I don't think you guys should do this."

I'm with Rob on this.Aside from his issues with Magic, walking past Jordan and Pippen with shaking hands should have been expected cause their rivalry was so fierce. If we are talking deserves, Hakeem Olajuwon was the best center in the NBA prior to 1992. He was unable to be selected because he had represented Nigeria in the Juniors games in 1980. And Olympic rules states that he had to wait 3 years after being naturalized in orde to switch countries. To put things in perspective, a foreign player who didn't represent another country do not have to wait three years. Had Olajuwon not played in the Juniors for Nigeria, he could of been naturalized in 1992 and played. I'm just trying to point out that Isiah Thomas wasn't the only top player not to have made the Dream Team.

Yes it's true if Daly turned down the coaching job due to IT snub, another coach would have been hired and Daly incident forgotten. But at least Daly would have shown integrity and class by doing so. However, had Isiah taken chuck's advice on not walking out on 91 Bulls, especially while looking down at floor trying to duck out of sight, i truly feel Daly would have gone to bat for him & declined coaching job if need be. But why would chuck do so when IT clearly screwed himself?

You wanna know why Rod Thorn can't go into detail & say exactly who was the one with the final say on Isiah being blackballed? Because the persons responsible are former executive producer of NBC DICK EMBERSOL & DAVID STERN former Commissioner. In the end they're the ones who decides whose playing & whose not!! Though MJ has a lot of stroke but those two make the final decision.

Forget the walk off. Forget the Bird comment. Isiah was the leader of the DIRTIEST TEAM OF ALL TIME. A team that made enemies all throughout the league. There is a price to pay for that.
