18:35 The reason that Gen 1's sprites are... bizarre... is because the Pokemon didn't have much of a consistent look until the anime started up, which the sprites were then made to reflect the designs in the anime. Also, for the west, some Pokemon were tweaked design wise for the first sprites, such as Blastoise standing straight to look more intimidating.

In regards to EV's in Gens 1 and 2 it was a very different system. Rather than capping your total EVs for a Pokémon at 510, each stat could gain a total of 65535 effort points. These points were earned based on the base stats of the Pokémon you defeated (knock out a mon with 100 attack and you gain 100 effort points for your attack and whatever other stats it had). Nowadays most of the time you'll be min maxing your Pokémon's EVs unless you need it to be at a very specific amount but back in Gen 1 and 2 you could just boost every stat all together with virtually no drawbacks.

You should do her "Can you Beat Super Mario Odyssey without jumping" and "Can you Beat Super Mario 3D World without jumping" videos, they are how I discovered her and they are very fascinating even if you don't play Mario

Gamechamp's videos are all really good. She has like three main series that I think really embody her channel as a whole, those being Mario games without jumping (Odyssey, 3D World, Bowser's Fury), Hitless Rockman, and Minimum-Shot Splatoon. Other miscellaneous vids by her that I would recommend include the Metroid Minimalist Pacifist Challenge, Breath of the Wild without pausing, and two "Beating Sonic without pressing right" vids.

So to explain the running away from ghost segment a little further because it won't make sense to someone who doesn't know gen 1 at all. At that point in the game when you reach there you need to get past a ghost marowak, which is story required. You cannot attack it normally and as such need to run away and need to get an item to identify it and beat it, which requires running through an entire pretty large location. The pokedoll, despite it being something that let's you run away, will make the game treat you like you beat it instead, allowing you to get past it and skipping an entire segment of the game.

13:00 It seems you're unfamiliar with Lavender Tower in Kanto. The Ghost Marowak is a required encounter that stops you from reaching the top of the tower. You can't repel it away.

Once again I recommend Jrose11's no damage run in generation 2. He does things very differently then Smallant and Gamechamp. No day care and no items in battle being the biggest rules. I would also recommend his other "Impossible challenges" as well as his series where he beats the games with the least number of battles.

The original Gen 1 games. So broken. 1/256 accuracy glitch, various clipping glitches, and the types weren’t very well balanced. Psychic was immune to Ghost for some reason. The only Dragon Type Pokémon were Dragonite and its line but the only Dragon move at the time was Dragon Rage which always did 40 damage meaning you couldn’t actually benefit from Super Effective Damage. Ghost was just Gengar who is not only weak to Psychic due to Poison but also the only Ghost move at the time was Lick which isn’t very good and also Psychic was mistakingly programmed to be immune to it? All Bugs were essentially useless as the only Bug moves were String Shot, Twin Needle, and Leech Life. Twin Needle could only be learnt by Beedrill, who isn’t good, and Leech Life was god awful until Gen 7, over a decade later where it went from 20 base power to 80 base power. Worst of all for me specifically, the Physical Special split did not exist yet. The earlier games just had HP, Attack, Defence, Special, and Speed. Special Attack and Special Defence were the same stat, so something like Alakazam was weirdly bulky when hit by Special Moves. Plus, moves weren’t given unique categories between Physical or Special, entire types were. Fire was Special, therefor Flamethrower and Flame Wheel would both be Special even though Flame Wheel is now Physical. Hyper Beam and Tackle were both Physical so Tauros and Snorlax could use them exceptionally well. Not to mention Speed not only dictated move order but also Critical Hit Chance. Pokémon like Persian and Tauros were stupid fast meaning they can drop a critical hit Hyper Beam and murder basically anything. Gen 1, the foundation of the series, but also it is a pain to play after playing any game after Gen 3.
@eshasunrise
@eshasunrise Ай бұрын
It's good to know that a lot of the jank glitches and programming are exclusive to Generation 1, that being Red, Blue, Yellow, and the Japanese exclusive Green. This does not include Firered and Leafgreen, which are gen 3, Let's Go, which is gen 8 (regardless of what Bulbapedia says), and Gold and Silver, which are direct sequels to RBY, but are still reprogrammed to be closer to modern Pokemon. So the 1/356 glitch, the trainer AI moving after the player, and the Marowak skip are RBY exclusive. Also, the random trainer mon thing is a mod for challenges.

Fun fact you are the 4-5th person reacting to Gamechamps video, ant got like 20-30 reactions in comparison. It is a true shame that her video never got the amount of reactions small ants did. Not that his is worse but I think both deserve a lot. So thank you! Also I hope you continue checking out the 3 channels (small/champ/pikaspray) Would love to see what crazy stuff these 3 can do.

Dude, with these pokemon challenges you're watching now, Jrose11 would be a good one. There are so many to choose from, but if I had to pick one for you to see, it'd have to be his Abra challenge. It's *so* brutal. His Magikarp challenge would be a good one as well, however i think that one is a bit long for where you tend to keep them. Aside from him, ChaoticMeatball, FlygonHG, VanMan, and Scott's Thoughts are all good as well. I generally listen to them in the background on 1.5x speed at work, among many others.

Not directly related, but I have a bit of a curveball reaction request: "The People You're Paying to Be In Shorts" by the channel Secret Base. I know it's a really dumb request, I mean the vid is two and a half hours long, but as a local to NC I think you'd get a kick out of it. It covers the fascinating (and pretty short) history of the NBA team the Charlotte Bobcats, before going more in-depth with the absolute trainwreck that was their 2011-2012 season. Even if you don't want to set the time aside for that vid, honestly Secret Base has so much good sports stuff that it's hard to not recommend any of it. The larger Dorktown series is great, really funny, heartfelt at times, and constantly tell stories that the numbers on their own wouldn't. There are also three entire separate series going into the entire history of the Seattle Mariners, the Atlanta Falcons, and former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Dave Stieb. Dorktown is legitimately the reason why I'm a sports fan now, and I think you'd enjoy your time there too.

@peair2000 No by official legal definition it’s based on timeframe. Keep in mind that there are games with regions grouped into a Gen that are not listed here. By your logic Holon, Fiore, Almia, Oblivia, Ransei and Hisui have no Gens associated with them!
