Dwight genuinely asked Jim whether the first snowfall of Christmas makes him want to curl up with his daddy and listen to stories around the campfire and Jim assaulted him. Dwight could have pressed charges, but no, he settled it like a man with an agreed upon duel (even after Jim somehow got away with attempted murder using a lacrosse paddle to shoot Dwight in the head and missed and broke the window instead. Toby was even in the room when it happened ffs.) Dwight does not prank, he revenges injustice and never jokes about that. The only prank he pulled on Jim was in the pilot when he tapped him on the right shoulder and appeared at his left and laughed and then again with Erin when he told her about the ghost who worked in the building back when it was a brothel, but that was mostly because a little bit of blood rushed into his penis. Also, when he and Michael raided accounting or sold an elevator pass he was following Michael. Putting the saran wrap around Clark's face was basically Pam's idea to haze the new guy, so no, Dwight never pranks.

Wish they'd gotten a little more mileage out of Kathy, at least a season. I think she was arcing close to Kelly, particularly with regard to pursuing a dangerously unhealthy relationship with Jim. Kathy was Jim's extramarital temptation and Brian was Pam's. Both Kathy and Brian deserved a bit more fleshing out.

@Gwmcmi023 жыл бұрын
@@erinstanger416 I didn't even necessarily mean to keep her around for the tension with Jim and Pam. I just liked her character. They could have easily written her tension off with Jim as her being a flirt with everyone but having a weakness for toxic relationships which they kind of eluded to with her incredible flirting skills at the Sabre store opening. She could have been a rival salesperson to Dwight because of her ability to sell "paper" (herself) to clients through their vulnerabilities as she identified and manipulated them. She could have been a foil to test office relationships against and tease out additional character dynamics. Maybe Dwight sees her as his strongest foe by sales and coercive power or maybe Ryan realizes she's more toxic and manipulative than him and it scares him into running toward Kelly which makes Kelly want to be besties with Kathy, who knows. For a million reasons, Kathy could have been an extremely versatile character to retain for longer on the show.

@@jacobpeters5458 nothing gratuitous but slightly more fleshed out. Brian's relationship with Pam was very ambiguous. They either needed to go there or leave it alone; one scene would have been all that was needed. As far as Kathy, they wrapped her storyline with Jim completely but she could have been a great additional personality in the office for a bit longer. It's criminal they cut so many of her scenes! It didn't need to be a soap opera, just some more scenes about anything would have been welcome; she was a great character.

Definitely! Especially the scene where she talks about the guy she didn't want to marry and the one where Jim explains that he knows her from high school and she apparently got a doctorate in Psychology, only to then end up in a temp job right next to him. lol Both of these aren't really elegant or great writing imo, but it would've given the audience at least a glimpse into who Kathy actually is beyond being hot for Jim.

So many people dislike Cathy for the wrong reasons. She is doing an acceptable job at portraying the character she's meant to portray. The problem is however: her character. It's not any of her actions I find so abhorrent, it's her existence as a whole. It's so blatantly obvious her sole purpose is to showcase how faithful and loyal Jim is, as if that was even necessary. As a viewer, I find it extremely patronizing. If anything that makes me hate the writers not the actress or the character.

It’s likely because there were multiple writers and directors for the show, and not every writer worked on every episode. So Kathy was probably written with some direction, but it changed because other writers and directors took the episodes in a different direction, and since she wasn’t that important of a character, she ended up being forgotten and somewhat unlikable.
@MrAdamloring19853 жыл бұрын
@@xxCrazyEights88xx While it’s true, every episode has a main writer. The episodes are worked on by the entire writing staff. And from what I have heard Paul Lieberstien say about the writers room, was they had walls dedicated to character plot lines and and things they wanted for characters to go through. So every writer was aware of this character. Secondly she came around on season eight, which is post Michale Scott. By this time, Greg Daniels was not the show runner and newer writers had come around. They seemed to have this notion that they way that one handles show stagnation, is to just keep introducing new characters, with out having anything direction for them. Case in point, by season 9 the cast consisted of 18 different characters, and that’s no including side characters that got a lot of screen time like Dwights assistant, and Daryls love interest Val. With so many characters, some will be left hanging in the wind, and that’s what happened with Kathy. Her character just disappears.
