Gervais' acting is genius (not in the inflated sense, in the true sense of the word) but what an amazing job by Stirling Gallacher as well. Imagine you have to play a serious part in a scene with Gervais who's made it his life's purpose to crack you up by coming up with an unplanned gesture, an adlibbed line, or an irresistibly funny face. Hat off to her.

David Brent is the perfect study of how not to be a position of management
@hotrodd292 жыл бұрын
@DriftZ TwoSeven I’d rather work (with) David but not (for) David. David was insecure, a proven liar throughout both seasons. Neil was definitely more nastier and calculating, finch would steal Neils jokes. Neil however would be more consistent and that’s ultimately what you want in a boss. We only ended up sympathising with David because he becomes the underdog after being exposed and losing his job. I remember prior to his fall I was wishing for his fall.
@SagaciousFrank2 жыл бұрын
@DriftZ TwoSeven , that said, Brent was going for General Manager until he failed the medical, which would've meant sacrificing part of his team in redundancies to gain a promotion for himself.
@hotrodd292 жыл бұрын
@DriftZ TwoSeven you say Dave wasn’t a bad boss? In the first season he hired a woman for the fact that she was a woman. Wasting Stuart foots time, and Karen Ropers time because ultimately she had to go. Neil from what we saw of him wouldn’t concern himself with impressing a young woman. When a boss is desperate to be liked there’s no consistency. I guess it is each to his own as I have my own friends and social life, so when I go to work I laugh at all the gossip and love the fact that I’m no ones mate. Because they all,throw each other under a bus.
@cinnaminson06532 жыл бұрын
@DriftZ TwoSeven if you actually watch the episodes there is only one conclusion: Brent is an utter, complete, total asshole. Very occasionally in small doses when he is in a good mood he can be tolerated. But the rest of the time he's just a complete piece of shiite.
@bensmithkent2211 ай бұрын
@DriftZ TwoSeven the balance between the two was so great brent was an incompetent cretin and insecure desperate to be loved it distracted him from the real things like paying his staff but neil was much more true to a real life area manager and dull as dishwater except for the cricket match and charity dance. Id rather be in the utter calamatious crazy awkward fun working environment under brent but if you wanted to progress neils methods and practices make more sense.
