Brilliant! This is how I remember the Deltics during the mid 1970's, mucky filthy machines covered in a million dead flies. The spotlessly clean preserved Deltics of today are not quite the same somehow.

I remember standing as a little lad alongside a Deltic at Doncaster Station - wondering why this locomotive sounded so different to anything else - and how it made the platform shake? Remember thinking it was a mighty machine that was waiting to be unleashed!

If the original Deltic C0C0 was light blue then I saw it circa 1960 on the line at Old Oak Sheds when I was a trainspotter.

Great piece of history. Thinking back, how did any of us breath with all that going on, plus everyone smoking as well haha. What a healthy world Britain used to be !

Yeah but they were The Deltics they were allowed to smoke. Now all I have is my cigarettes, no more Deltics.

The big fat Deltics, only 22 were built compared with 200 class 40s, so more should have been saved. One should have been chosen as the locomotive of the Royal trains with more imposing presence than a class 47.

Fantastic engines exciting to drive trying to keep the boiler working between the two engines if it played up was a pain thank god for ETH.

I had to go in to attend to a boiler problem. Tried to time it for when the engines were idling but by the time I sorted it they were at full throttle, stone deaf when I came out. Ear protection hadn't been heard of in those days!

@Titan604
@Titan604 3 ай бұрын
@@paulfearn4905 In BR days, it was usually because the other engine was broken. In preservation days, if you are limited to 25mph you only need one, so it saves on fuel and maintenance. Of course during galas they may use both just for the hell of it, and out on the mainline they usually need both to keep time.
