Sad seeing Legends Arceus being dragged in the mud like that, it’s genuinely the most fun I’ve had with a Pokémon game in quite a while. The gameplay loop is refreshing, there’s loads of side quests to do, the story is actually interesting (looking at you Sword and Shield), the characters are charismatic, and they’ve actually redone the Pokémon’s animations and models so they feel a lot more alive. The game brings back the magic of Pokémon for me, some thing which I haven’t felt in the more recent titles. And yes, to address the elephant in the room, the graphics could use a bit more polish. I don’t think they’re as bad as everyone makes them out to be, but I think the gameplay carries the game tenfold.

Did we play the same game? The world felt lifeless, the lack of elite 4 or gyms lead to not many climactic or challenging moments, the true ending is locked behind a long grind and there is no abilities on pokemon in this game. A 6/10 for me, the new ideas are fresh but it needed more time.

I will never say arceus looks pretty. It could use a lot of work in the art department. However, as far as gameplay is concerned, it is actually a big step in the right direction. If this was touched up visually, I think it would be a great game

I'd say the reason 3d pokemon looks so bad is because they never fully commit to 3d. Detective Pikachu did 3d pokemon perfectly (even if it was CGI). They need to focus on making them look like 3 dimensional MONSTERS, not 2d drawings.

I think you need to give Legends of Arceus more credit. This is the first time since Pokemon Black and White that they have tried something truly different. Saying that you shouldn't support that is the exact opposite outcome of what you're trying to achieve. They'll NEVER continue changing the development style if you don't support that change.

@@IAmTheBugInsideYou Well I'd say that for starters, it allows you to think stratigically on whether you want to weaken a move to increase chances of doing a second move before the opponent (action speed) or lowering your action speed for heavier hitting blows, as well as the ability to customize how a pokemon benefits from effort points, which allows greater ability to get what you want from your pokemon, the fact that open world makes it more fresh. Strictly in terms of gameplay I think it's a huge step in the right direction.

It’s really fun, 100% the direction the franchise needs to take imo. The graphics are not great, looks like a 360/ps3 launch game, but the actual gameplay itself is fantastic imo. The Pokémon themselves look great tho and are animated well, it’s just the graphics of the actual environment and world that’s not good

Tbh the game to me also seems a lot of fun, but I myself just don’t like the designs. I’ve played almost every Pokémon game so far, and I really feel that around gen 4 and 5 the designs were the best, and to me the newer ones keep getting worse. I really don’t like the new Palkia and Dialga designs, but I guess some new ones like Zoroark’s are quite good. From a game perspective, since I haven’t play Legends yet I can’t judge it, but I feel like the animations in older 3D animated games (Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, Battle Revolution) are way better than the main series games

While I am a fan, i can say Nintendo is still 10 years behind in terms of technology and power in their system. It really limits what their devs at Game freak, pokemon and all their other exclusive developers can do. I'm really starting to think they should partner with Sony or buckle down and create an actual next gen system. Comparing stuff like PS5's ratchet and clank vs pokemon SW&SH or legends Arceus is further proof.

@@corbinkendall6330 they don't even need to partner with sony, they can already make powerful consoles by themselves. the main problem is they won't buckle down and make an actual console instead of a handheld you can play on your tv. the switches power is comparable to the original xbox one/ps4, which for a handheld console is really impressive. i think they just need to make an actual console because i agree, the devs are so limited by the capabilities of the switch, and even then can put out amazing games like botw. so it would be amazing to see what they could make with a console that's as powerful as the next gen consoles.

Legends Arceus is definitely not a game for everyone, or as groundbreaking as botw, but as a huge Pokemon fan, I think that it was a very needed step for Pokemon and I am so glad they took a different approach to a mainline game. I encourage them to look again at the game, as much of it was not shown off in pre release material. Can't wait to start playing in a few hours!!

I never expected Legends Arceus to be good, I expected it to be an average/mediocre game. However, it's been forever since we've gotten anything other than the same stale 25 year old formula, so it's definitely a welcome change despite its flaws. It's a neat spin on the franchise and I hope Game Freak experiments more with Pokémon in the future. Or just give the game to a more competent developer.

@@Coolguy-uc6el right?. this is one of the most popular gaming franchises known world wide and makes billions upon billions of dollars but we just accept graphics akin to the original Wii, flat barren landscapes with nothing but pokemon walking around like zombies and mechanics being added in that nobody asked for which cause nothing but problems for the game, like the EXP share being party wide to quote on quote "make farming easier" yet we already had ways of making it easy, like the lucky egg, the original EXP share and audino's which dropped a shit ton of EXP when you defeated them. not to mention old slice-of-life mechanics being removed after 1 game and being region locked, like how you could toggle running in the gen 2 remakes, the poke-app from gen 4 which acted as a multipurpose tool, the pokeball capsules, the bike gear from gen 3, the roller skates from gen 6 which is my favorite feature from gen 6. it's insane to me how gamefreak from 2022 cannot figure out how to fix problems that gamefreak of 2011 had already fixed. it's insane to me that a franchised based on evolution, refuses too and is encouraged too never evolve and never get better.

I know this stream shit talked on Arceus, but I for one am really enjoying it. The graphics have a ways to go, though they are limiting their games to the Switch which says alot, but the gameplay and sound design are really strong points. Plus they've added some quality of life effects I believe the old games would've loved like improved Shiny hunting methods (if what a few poketubers have said is true), having a permanent everstone mechanics where you aren't constantly reminded your pokemon will evolve and instead you choose when you want to evolve it. It's not perfect, but a good step in the right direction.

Wasn't shiny hunting better in older games on the 3DS? There was a mechanic in the rereleases of Sapphire & Ruby that would build up better IVs, different nature's, & increased shiny chances as you chained monsters. The evolve choice at certain levels is nice though I suppose

@@IAmTheBugInsideYou It's better in Arceus because of how much encounters and the gameplay changes. Imagine this. You're running through the environment, Pokemon spawn around you as you come close to their locations. There is no need to run in grass or anything and go into one on one fights to get an encounter, instead multiple Pokemon can spawn around you per second. You get mounts that make you move faster, so this can have you encountering dozens of Pokemon per minute really. The base chance of a Pokemon being shiny is still 1/4096, which is alot in old Pokemon games cause you get individual encounters, but in Arceus and how encounters work, there is alot more of a chance. The encounters in Arceus, and their shiny chance, is determined in the overworld, not once you choose to battle. If a Pokemon is shiny and it shows on your screen, you get an audio warning and a flashy-star animation from that Pokemon. Also, there's a feature you unlock in the first 3 hours called Mass Outbreaks. This makes it that a certain Pokemon keeps mass-spawning in an area, like tonnes of them keep spawning together. They will end up disappearing once you catch or defeat them enough, but there's alot. These mass outbreaks, without even a shiny charm or anything, lower the shiny chance of those specific Pokemon, form 1:4096 to around 1:180. It's insane. In my honest opinion, Arceus may have a dry open world and questionable visual designs, but their QoL changes and gameplay choice is top tier.

They had 25 years to prove what kind of effort they could put in -- and until the mid 00s they did alright, I guess (even though the mainline games' premises have always been rather boring and basically just repeated themselves). They've had plenty of chances to spice up their formula, and yet they underdeliver every single time. Why continue to waste your hard earned money on a franchise that'll never improve beyond the most basic of things? Bruh. I'm not saying play the game, but it feels weird to have strong opinions about a game before you have. I genuinely have just disliked pokemon since 3ds, it was the same game before hand, but you feel it even more when the console has more capabilities. Arceus though is a humongous leap in the right direction. It actually feels like an actual go around catch pokemon game. No transitional battle shid, movement all the time, catch pokemon without even needing to fight them, set up food etc to catch them more easily. Even the battle system, with it still being turn based, had a huge overhaul. It's more like Final Fantasy 10 than pokemon and now it doesn't feel like a wasted turn or useless to use buff moves. I would say I actually like this one MINUS the poor graphical fidelity for the environments and the stylization/shaders(on some pokemon they look glossy and it just looks bad). Actually worth trying for once.

Honestly great game. You can toss your party Pokémon out one by one and let them have conversations or take a nap together, literally just vibing with your whole team anywhere anytime you want. For a community that thought it was amazing to have Pokémon follow them around this is so much better and more like the anime/manga. You can even move around while you're fighting and quite literally run away without using the UI, to end a fight. It also gives you the choice of starting every fight to catch things instead of using the stealth mechanics, so more traditional players can just play it more like a standard game.

I agree that modern gaming has problems, but the blanket statement of newer games not being as good isn't really accurate. Since so many more games release now that the stinkers are more common. Games like God of War, and Spider-Man are just 2 examples of amazing games that shit on a lot of older games, but in 2018 there were also a lot of crap games released that made that year seem bad for gaming. Same goes with 2019, 2020, and 2021. I do want the studios/publishers that used to make good games to start doing so again, but enough good game's come out to outweigh years bad(some years are better than others, but the point still stands). Spiderman was a bland open world game with repetitive combat, forced stealth sections, and antiquated quick time events. The story was decent but unoriginal in context of other Spiderman media. God of War had good combat and great story presentation, but lacks the ambition of it's predecessors, and comes off as bland in comparison to the insane spectacle of the original trilogy and even the psp and vita games. I feel like they both lack identity in their gameplay, Spiderman plays just like the Arkham games, even with the stealth sections, and God of War leans in to heavily to industry trends like crafting and pseudo rpg elements, to stand out like the originals. as for the depth of combat, felt pretty average to me, but most hack and slashes are incredibly complex if explore the mechanics fully, and god of war did not reach that standard.

They had reason to think it's a garbage game, but that reason is gone once they continue to hold the same opinions even after seeing positive reviews, since they just brush it off as "everyone's a game freak bootlicker". The graphics are easily the worst part of the game, and everything else I found was stellar and a massive step in the right direction. The only reason the game didn't have good graphics is cause they didn't have nearly the same amount of development time as BOTW. The idea that video games have declined as a whole is completely false. People who are nostalgia ridden will always view older games as superior or more recent ones as worse, however, to grab a few broad examples, let’s take the Elder Scrolls Series, the Mass Effect Series and finally the Pokémon series. Let’s first compare daggerfall to morrowind(I have no experience with arena so I’m gliding by it). Daggerfall boasted the largest open world at the time, however, the dialogue from npcs was extremely repetitive, dungeons were the exact same thing over and over again, and while also being the largest open world, it was also the most empty. There was no voice acting and the graphics were terrible. Move on to morrowind, where they created a smaller world with more things to do, dungeons got more variety with different types of caves, strongholds ect. Ease of life qualities were implemented, characters were better written, the story was easier to follow and made more sense, and of course the graphics were much better. Similar advances were made from morrowind to oblivion, and then from oblivion to Skyrim. The only people who disagree would be people stuck in the past with nostalgia, since the improvements are so easy to see. Now let’s talk about Mass effect, the first three games were made in around 5 years, all with similar quality, however, each new game had smoother mechanics and ease of life options. This is unarguable. Then in 2016 or 18 I believe, andromeda was released, and it looked terrible, and was generally believe to be a huge downgrade from the original series. People didn’t accept this like you claim they do. The game was slaughtered review wise, made less money then intended, and all ideas for future dlc were discontinued. Finally let’s talk about pokemon, and this ones super easy to talk about. Pokémon has been; and always will be, meant for very young children, and the games have never been high quality games at the time they were released. I love Pokémon, but almost every single Pokémon game has had hundreds of graphical glitches, game breaking glitches and so on. And the graphics for the game itself has never been top of the line; they’ve always been bad from the first release of the series. It didn’t get worse, you just have more nostalgia for the earlier games, it’s as simple as that.

Legends Arceus is the only legitimately good thing they've made recently, from what I can tell. Which is unfortunate since it doesn't hit my tastes for jrpg combat and I don't like some of the battle tracks.

@@IAmTheBugInsideYou The way I see it, they haven't made a genuinely good game on release since bw1/2. Gen 6/6.5 was good but not _good,_ that's when the cracks started forming. They had something good with Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, but they were add-ons for a mediocre game at best. Legends Arceus is hands down the best thing they've made in a good while, but unfortunately it doesn't quite fit my tastes. Almost, but it just misses the mark for me. Which means I've gotta wait even longer for a pokemon game I genuinely like, not one I'm ok with cuz of the brand name

@@ashemabahumat4173 That about sums up my thoughts besides me skipping Sw/Sh entirely, I can always check my old copies of B/W 1&2 to know how much time I put into those as well. Last two decent enough games while a bit annoying & drawn out at points for me was Sun/Moon, I've been abstinent about playing anything else they've done. If Arceus was their attempt to finally go back in a better direction even if it looks like dog shit that's a point to give them, but I don't believe they deserve the credit until they can do this twice in a row. The series is the highest grossing franchise in media of all time & has been developing games since '94, if they're just now starting to get back into a swing of things & make the games good again that's a really low bar imo. We need to see if this was a fluke or not, they already said they were doing another let's go game I believe, I doubt that'll really vary much from eevee/Pikachu but we'll see I guess

You can literally apply that to nearly every company in some aspect. Rockstar with their online design, Activision never fixing their games, Ubisoft being outright buggy, EA being EA.

1) Dragon Quest V is the first monster tamer game, IIRC the Pokèmon Dev team cited it as the main inspiration for the gameplay mechanics 2) Anpanman is the inspiration for One Punch Man, OPM's palette is a swap of Anpan and his name is literally a pun

It really is a ton of fun, Pokémon has never been about graphics, I agree there is room for improvement but it's insane for people who like Psychonauts and call that an "art style" to be turning around and trying to call out a Pokémon game.

@@pismodude2 Im assuming you're talking about Pyschonauts 2, that game looks fantastic so that's not even a close comparison. Im playing Psychonauts 1 currently and it is honestly on par a lot of the time to Arceus. Im playing Arceus as well and really enjoying it, but it looks terrible and its not cause of art style. The art style is very basic, but its the lack of anti-aliasing, the really bad ground textures that make anything on it look disconnected from it cause everything else has exponentially higher resolution textures comparatively. A spade needs to be called a spade and im glad most of the community is in agreement that it is a good step for the franchise, but it looks terrible

@@pismodude2 pokemon was never about graphics because of the technological limitations. Now that those dont exist, it's just laziness. Same reason they didn't put the whole DeX in sun and moon. They claimed that new animations and models would take too much time, but they very clearly just reused models and animations from previous games. Games that had all of the ones they cut out. Let's not defend shitty business practices.
