That to me is the part I kinda see, I've never even heard about this strike despite this strike going on for months already, and the support of this is only coming from pretty much from people like Charlie or people whose life is already in the entertainment circle, but your blue collar neighbor or your doctor colleague will truly don't care and if they did, it's probably a throwaway mention The idea that we shouldn't pay writers, actors fairly is horrifically shit take no matter how you spin it, and no matter how much you deny it with the Hollywood movies are terrible, but the idea this strike will be as impactful as say railroad strike or an International shipping port strike is pretty terrible as those actually has severe impact the longer it goes; groceries not reaching store shelves, manufacturers can't build shit, your graphics card supply is delayed by several more days because of the stoppage, that to me is a much more reasonable take than whatever the fuck Kaya is saying

He wasn’t honest, though. He obviously cares because he brought the topic, the way he belittled the strike when he did, and the things he said when he argued. He wasn’t saying anything neutral, he was arguing against the strike and whenever anyone said anything he pretended like he had no skin in the game. It was honestly some of the worst behavior he’s exhibited on the podcast, ever. I like the guy and have listened to every episode and the only other times I’ve gotten as annoyed at him is hearing him talk about LGBTQ+ people. He’s super ignorant sometimes and is really stubborn and prideful about being told he’s wrong, and he was about as wrong as he has ever been in this episode

@@MOLEMITTS12 yknow that is true, while i respect his being honest in his initial opening up of the topic, he definitely backpedalled and said he didn't care even though he brought it up. He was honest in his opinion but not the emotions associated with said opinion, to the point he sounded like he had two clearly opposing opinions at once. The lgbtq stuff also boiled my blood when i initially heard it that i cannot deny, i suppose it's difficult to judge since while he does speak his mind freely and openly which i admire, his ability to actually discuss anything beyond "im right youre wrong" without getting somewhat upset isnt wholy upsetting to me but just so uninteresting. As a gay dude i dont care about his opinions on lgbt stuff anymore solely because he doesnt really open his mind up to any pov other than his own so its pointless getting upset when he hasnt even allowed himself the opportunity to think deeper on it, so i just see him as funny angry internet man in my head and i kinda take the rest of the official boys a bit more serious than him.

Kaya's take on the writing in movie industries is probably his worst one yet. One can argue that, yes, bad movies do mean bad writing, but for the good movies that has good writing, these writers aren't paid fairly. FAIRLY. They get paid about the same amount to pay their cost of living. And its even worse when they literally have to live in LA to be closer to the Hollywood set. And what about up and coming writers? If top movie writers aren't getting paid fairly, imagine the newer writers? Honestly, I hope this strike keeps getting bigger and bigger until it goes towards the voice actor scene. For DECADES, being a voice actor is just a hobby that you're lucky to make money off of. Voice Acting = Acting and I'm sick of hearing the amount of work voice actors do to get not even half of what actors get paid for

@@yosemitesam9576 Honestly, a lot of movies are mainly made with using "safe" IPs - where instead of taking a gamble of having to deal with original storylines, previous IPs could just be repackaged. kaya needs to actually look at why the writers are striking instead of just reading the headlines lmao of course a lot of writing in hollywood has been bad, it's because of their shitty work conditions. not only are they paid actual peanuts, but they are given way less time to pump out a script, and then the script often gets sent through a game of telephone because it's somehow cheaper to pay 7 different people for 5 hours of work each than just one person for the amount of time needed to see the project from start to finish. and the reason people care is because this strike sets a precedent for other unrelated industries, too. all strikes are a big deal.
@potato6785
@potato6785 Жыл бұрын
They made the mistake of striking when public goodwill is at its lowest. People are angry with streaming services for various reasons, we’ve seen these same writers do nothing but regurgitate and destroy beloved franchises, and the movies they’re working on are making losses rather than record-breaking profits. They’re about 5 years too late to successfully strike. Add the cost of living crisis to all of the above, nobody really gives a shit. The Oppenheimer team are striking, but people are still watching. Tom Cruise and a bunch of others asked for exemptions from the strike to promote their films. There isn’t even the internal unity, nevermind enough public goodwill being stored up to support the disruption.

@@potato6785 Better late than never. I agree that they should have done it years ago, but we're all guilty of rolling over and accepting the new normal as everything slowly turns into a gig work economy and labor is devalued to the point that companies regularly do shit like fire their senior staff and replace them with lower paid newbies. As much as everyone loves to hate on Hollywood, media has a huge impact on the way people view the world, and they're already experts in garnering public attention. Since the writer's strike started, talk about striking for better work and pay conditions has started all over the USA because people are finally feeling a little more empowered to do so. Are unions perfect? No. Is this strike as well organized as it should be? No, they never are. But if there's any chance for positive change for everyone, then this is probably the best we're going to get for awhile, and I see a lot more value in their bravery than your cynicism.

@@potato6785 it's not exemptions. They have preexisting contracts that they are allowed to fulful. They(Tom Cruise et al) can either fulfill their contracts to do promotion and stuff, or they can look extra nice to SAG by boycotting their contract(which they could also decide to do). By writing to SAG saying "can we pls fulfill our contract but, like, with your blessing" they're trying to split the baby. My point is, they weren't asking for permission; you don't need permission to fulfill existing contracts. Contracts that aren't acting, I mean. Obviously you stop your acting work during the strike. Promoting a film under a preexisting contract is different. Again, while I do have a side(I'm pro-strike), I'm just trying to be clear about who needs permission to do what.

If a 20 year old woman is more “susceptible to being emotionally abused” doesn’t that mean nobody should date them? Why is Boogie at 50 more likely to be abusive than a 24 year old male? Stop white knighting, if the girl wants to be with Boogie than that’s her choice.

How are they on the internet so much to miss the fact that Barbenhemier is only a meme because of the irony that they release on the same day? Like it was so basic and there was only one joke

Even playing Tonya Harding at her worst Margot Robbie was still a 10. Also, Kaya's German heritage shined bright in this episode, saying that as someone who's mostly German but disagrees with him.

I will say the writers strike affects a lot more than just writers, a lot of productions on the US and Canada, have stopped and new ones aren't being greenlit. Which is resulting in a lot of people in the CG industry losing their jobs.

Kaya is straight up incorrect about nothing happening because of the strike. Man has never read a history book to see that striking is basically the only reason writers (and any worker, honestly) has what power and rights they currently have. The 2008 writers strike was particularly effective, but there have been quite a few. Absolute L take.

He said striking in this case isn't going anywhere and it's true. It isn't.

no buissness owners and ceos are always kind and want their worker to have a decent life rather than them making maximum profit its not the strikes /S

Why? His stance about Hollywood is similar to how a lot of people hate both sides of Islam or both Israel and Palestine, it's 100% common to just want the worst for both sides in a conflict

kaya is making it increasingly difficult to enjoy the podcast. i get charlie likes having people with different opinions/views around him but kaya constantly spouting anecdotal (at best) arguments while being so sure that he's right and everyone else is just 'cucked' is just grating

I’m pretty sure the popping one kernel at a time isn’t “xd random” it’s just a typical tiktok streaming strategy where the viewer has to wait a minute it two for something to happen to keep them on the stream
