Long ago, after the Great Mystery, or Kitchi-Manitou, first put people on the earth, the Anishinabe, or Original People, strayed from their peaceful ways. They began to argue and fight with one another. Brother turned against brother and soon the Anishinabe were killing one another over hunting grounds and other things. Seeing that harmony and respect for all living things no longer existed on Earth, Kitchi-Manitou decided to purify the Earth.

I wish I knew my culture and my people. All I have is my name and my registration with Turtle mountain and what little I remember from my father's teachings. I've tried to learn from our brothers and sisters here I get told I'm "too white washed". Apparently my grandfather left for oregon and here is where we stayed so I guess 3 generations would do that but my mother is full Wintun native and my dad was over 3/4 Ojibwe. Hell I wish I at least knew the language. My dad was the only one who knew the old ways and the language in our whole family but only spoke it when he was drunk and he passed away when I was little. All I remember is how he blessed the land, how he prepared and afterwards blessed his hunts and this story. Well this and the 7 fires but I was told not to speak of that one.

I grew up hearing this story both in School and with family and Friends growing up in Sault Ste.Marie and most of Northshore. the story has its multi-meaning when it comes to value. that all life weak or strong have influence upon each other. No matter what we are or who we are we are all connected in life. Was quite refreshing to hear the story told again. And Im not even Ojibway..left alone first nations people...or whatever pronoun you refer. thanx for this video...I miss home now...Edmonton is so far away from home.

What does sault mean? It sounds like 'salt'? While French 'saut' means 'to jump, leap, hop' and I can't find 'sault' written like that in French. I read that it is a word from French colonists, but I'd like to know the etymology, history of the word and the meaning when name giving to the landscape or place. In wikipedia it says that French pronounce it as 'so' and English as 'su'?

I love that many Native American legends are very similar to the accounts in the Bible... it shows me we are all meant to be brothers. I am proud of my Anishinabe heritage (however far back in my blood it may be).

This 'Creation Story" was written by an Ojibwe Culture who had been Christianized, but wanted to hang on to a part of their old Culture. After all Mahnahnboono, or Mahnahbozhoo was not human, but the brother of three of the directions and son of the fourth, so if true no humans would have survived. I cry, because I have a memory that is instinctual. Or I remember things from before my life now here. I’m not saying that I am reincarnated, nor am I saying that we share from a pool of ‘collective memories’, there’s a turtle who made sacrifice for the rest of us all, he did something that I think is great, and I would want to be like that, but I cannot say I would make that same sacrifice. he story of a great flood covering the world means the world that the people knew and could see. Ojibwe didn't know about the other continents or most of Canada and northern US. Same with the story of Noah's ark. The world was only as big as they could see and reach. So "the world" flooding was just the part of earth they knew. Most places of not all have witnessed a grand flood that washed out their small part of the world. Besides that you shouldn't take a translated book seriously.

The original people in Americas, should be proud of their own history, and culture... The Indian Ocean came thundering in, and could not stop, when the new hole was filled, but continued north, till the northern highland on the southside of Himalaya stopped it... It lasted several days, before the water flew back south... Then the Indus Valley had no people for almost 200 years... The bible writes "the whole world was flooded"... But the word "world" was used in the meaning "region"... That did not mean the entire planet... We know as a fact, that the planet has never ever been totally covered withy water... All books which wrote about that flood, explained that one man build a "house boat", so he and his family, and the families who worked for him, and all his animals from his farm, survived... But all in the hunter-gather nations had as usual gone to higher ground, before the annual flood started, so those from the west side, was up on the Persian Plateau, and those on the east side, was up on the mountains to the east... Only the farmers nations, and the Fleet Cities, stayed in the valley... However, many feared the coming annual flood, so many farmers, and also craftmen and women from the fleet cities, had fled, up on the Persian Plateau... All those, were from the "Danish Race"... All those started the new nation in eastern Persia, named Arian nation... They wrote the Veda Texts, including the desciption of the flood, which they saw from the edge of the Persian Plateau... Also the book of Zarathustra, gives a very detailed explanation... Also Sumerian cuneiform texts, describe that flood... So it is a fact that is happened... But it "only" flooded the entire region, called the Indus Valley, in modern Pakistan... Tribes in Africa, also heard about that flood... Some tribes remember: One man build a wooden box, and survived in that... Only the Bible use the name NOAH... The other books give a quite different name... Those are the facts about the socalled Biblical Deluge... When the Christians invaded America, they forced all to convert to christianity... But in this tale, from the Ojibway people, we see they totally changed the tale... And created a beautiful tale, which includes demonstrations of very good mentality... So the explanation about how all the animals "worked together, and tried to help all the others", shows the main mentality of the Ojibway people, and NOT the bad mentality, which the bible teach... Abraham clearly read the Sumerian texts, and also the book of Zarathustra... Clearly it was hard to understand the book of Zarathustra, as that was written in a "weird form of the Persian language"... So Abraham misunderstood some things, and he also chose to make a shorter version, so he left many parts out... One of his misunderstandings was: The Creator, made that flood, to kill all the evil people... The Creator CAN NOT create floods, nor can he stop them! Please to not accuse our Creator, of killing all those people! This tale from the Ojibway people, is clamed to be their "Creation Tale"... But it does not explain any form of "creation event"... It explains how "living beings survived the flood"... It is quite possible, that some region in America, also suffered a terrible flood, at some point in time, after the last iceage... However since this tale explains about "very few surviving people, with some animals", it seems clear, it was the Biblical Flood Tale, which simply was changed to mention animals in America, and giving other named to the "two legged people"... Even the fact that they call the Creator "the Creator" seems to prove it was from the Christian Bible... The original Americans more often called him the Great Spirit... Or the Great Mind... Or the first Mind... Or "He who was all alone"... The Danish race used the term ORION MAN, which meant FIRST MIND... But even earlier the Danish Race called him the ORION AN... Also that meant FIRST MIND... The two races who owned nearly all of America, arrived from Asia during the last iceage... They came paddling along the icecoast, which reached from Asia to America during the iceage... One of those races, were the first Race, who defined themselves as the ORION people, as that means FIRST PEOPLE... That race inhabited the forest lands and the Andes mountain... Originally only 1,5 meter tall, with rather short legs, but with strong bones and muscles, so they were the strongest human race... Originally they had white skin, with no pigment, so they needed to live ijn dense forests... Thieir most norhthern nation in Asia, was the Inuit Nation... (Obviously they were the first to follow the ice coast, and come to America, and inhabit the arctic region.) However since 80.000 years ago, also the Orions in eastern Asia had intermarried, with the black race... So both races ended having brown skin, BEFORE they came to America... The other was the third race, which was the black skinned race, so they could be in sunlight most of the day, and they imhavited the plains, in northern America... Originally they defined themselves as the Semi People, or the Semit People... One of the old "Ancient Fleets" found America about 5.600 before the birth of Jesus... That fleet was started on the Indian Ocean (east of Africa and west of India), but they performed a great expansion about 3.500 before Jesus, so they build many fleet cities in America including the first stonebuild city, which was build on the coast of Peru at that time... That fleet would never ever take lands from the rightful owners... They would ask, if the coastal nation would give small bits of land, to build fleet cities on, and make fields around the cities, and have meadows for the sheep and goats... In the male line those fleet people were from the "Danish race", but had intermarried so much with women from the two other races, so they looked more like those... That fleet was named the Nether Fleet, but was also called the Angel Fleet... They build all the ancient habour cities in America... The fleet city mayors had a title containing the word AN... Therefore the Fleet people were caleld the AN'GEL people OR the AN'CIENT people, OR the AN'DEAN people... It is from them the mountains are called the AN'DES mountains... Obviously the original nations had given another name to that mountain, along the west coast of South America... And the fleet brought Orion MINERS to mine metals in the Andes mountain... Including the old female science about "health and healing"... About healing with mediciens, or wit surgery, or by education women more about healthy foods, and proper conservation and storage, and proper hygiene... It was those food specialists, who brewed beer and mead... Perhaps also wine, and "alcoholic drinks"... But that Orion "miner nation" also had professors of masonry... They educated masons to build in the Danish Style but also in bthe socalled Minoan Style, which ws used fro the largest buildings, like the universities. That "Miner Nation" build the impressive "temples" in the Andes mountain... Only they mined for metals, in America... Note, that when the Christian Invaders came sailing, they found the HARBOUR CITIES... So they first met people who explained "We are ANDEANS", or they said "We are ANGELS"... Those fleet city people in South America, and Central America spoke "Old Portugeese" as that has a lot of words from the old Orion language... So they would say, they were: LOS ANGELOS... But as the bible teach about angels "being religious figures", the christians would not use THAT name for them... Therefore they ignored that, and used the other form, ANDEANS... And Christian teacher were send to Ameica to "mis-educate all" and teach all the people "you are Indians"... This isn't a creation story. There are very few out there. None in the bible or in any of the American / Canadian Indian stories. All the stories are about early animal / human experience. Are there any stories about the creation of the universe out there? Genesis 1 isn't.

It's the North American/Ojibway creation story. In short - sky woman falls through a hole in "heaven", the hole she falls into leads to a water world which has no land yet. When she falls into the sea she is helped by a few animals. Turtle, loon, otter, beaver, muskrat. They each take turns trying to grab clay from the bottom to put on turtles back. All fail except muskrat? (I can't remember) who manages to grab some clay from the bottom but- he ultimately gives his life in the process. His sacrifice saves sky woman from drowning as the clay is spread onto turtles back and he then becomes "turtle Island" or North America as we know it.- this is all I can remember from elementary school when we used to have our elders come in and tell it. There are versions with slight variations.
