A brilliant system Thom, I really enjoyed this video. America needs more trams like this! 😎👍🏻

WIsh there was a actaul BUS that goes between TULSA and OKC, a TRAIN too...Jump on here to go to chicago, for the weekend...or the east coast besided having to go to DALLAS, wait there for 5 hours, then travel further east then go north taking 3 days to go to chicago/kansas city.

Very interresting system. It is great, that Oklahoma City has it. The vehicles really look unusual, with only the middle bogie having doors and only pull down seats, and the end bogies having only seating and no door. Also kinda unusual to have companies sponsor stops. I love you videos about all these small tram networks.

Once again thank you Thom for providing an informative and interesting upload, this time on Oklahoma City's 'streetcar' (or 'tram' as we use to call them here in Sydney Australia, now we call them 'light rail'). I must say I too am impressed with the number of public transport systems opening up in USA. I liked both the Memphis & New Orleans streetcars mainly because of the old-world charm but my favorite is San Fransico's cable cars as they are both not only historic but rather unique forms of public transport.

We have light rail here in Phoenix, as well as a streetcar(tram). Portland has light rail, streetcars AND trams!

Strange to hear that a city of 680,000 inhabitants has only one regular tramline. It doesn’t have train stations or a metro system? Only busses? There are cities in Europe with less inhabitants that have a metro system and multiple tram lines. Like Rotterdam, similar size, a little bit smaller, and it has 5 metro lines, 9 tram lines as well as multiple bus lines and a few waterbus lines.

I totally agree with you! It’s a fun way to get around downtown, but totally ineffective for moving commuters into the cities. Unfortunately, cars are still dominant in much of the US.

@@Thom-TRA Uhhhhh Dallas Fort Worth a city south of Oklahoma City has a Light Rail Rapid Transit and Streetcar Network along with a Bus Network and it's also a Car centric city so Oklahoma City has no excuses.
@Thom-TRA3 жыл бұрын
@@briansivley2001 I think we’re agreeing. I’m saying OKC’s system is not a structural, sustainable solution. We need more transport.

To take a more egregious example: Metro Detroit has 4.5 million people, and until recently it only had a small, circular people mover downtown. A few years ago, some philanthropists and businessmen built a single streetcar/tram that is notoriously slow and unreliable due to a poor design and little used as a result. The Metro area has different bus sytems to serve the city proper and the suburbs, and attempts to form a unified transportation agency and make substantial transportation improvements have been repeatedly defeated in elections due to suburban opposition. The fact is, many Americans have grown up with the two baseline assumptions: 1) the automobile is how you get around, and 2) the city is a hive of poverty, drugs, and crime. Consequently, many Americans view expanding public transportation as a waste of money for something they will never use and that only serves to expand the reach of poverty, drugs, and crime. Until those prejudices are broken down, it will continue to be difficult to expand public transportation in most American cities.

@@jonathanstensberg excellent analysis. It saddens me that this is the mindset of many people. Detroit is a good example. I live on the other side of the state, and we barely have 20 bus routes. Our car broke down and we’re fine with that because we take the bus, and friends and family all act shocked.

i hope in the future they double track it so that trains can go both ways, and that they get more trains to increase frequencies. the system is already pretty good, and large upgrade like these could make them amazing. viva la american transit revolution!

@JonVonBonbon Жыл бұрын
Depends. Downtown you might have a better time, but in most of the city you will need a car. I have an E-Bike which is decent for commuting (15mi) when it’s not 100° outside but I still end up driving a lot because there’s no grocery stores or really anything besides other housing within 2mi of my house. Let alone protected bike infrastructure or transit to get you there. It’s like that in a lot of the city, so I wouldn’t move here expecting that unless you move downtown or in midtown.
