Hello Walter Roy Evans here former Buchman Studios requester. Buchman Studios was on the corner of 6th and Market caddy corner from Strifflers. I believe that was Olsen Studios you recorded. I appreciate you and admire your blog.

Had my senior picture taken at what I thought was Buchman's at the corner of Market and 6th in the 1976. I guess they moved after that.

Imagine what it would cost to build those beautiful buildings today. What a shame! Thankyou for sharing.

That building on Shaw and Huey St. was Buchman Studios, but became the Studio of well known African American lndustrial Photographer Percy Garland. His wife was Hazel Garland the editor of the famous African American newspaper The Pittsburgh Courier. Their daughter Phyllis was a Professor of Journalism at Columbia University in New York City. Buchman's moved to Market St and 6TH St. around 1975 as I graduated in 1976 and had my photo taken at the Market St. location in the summer of 1975 for the 1976 yearbook. My grandmother was very good friends with Sam Buchman and his 2 sisters.

Sam Buchman was my cousin. I believe his first location was on Fifth Ave down by the old Robert Hall..We left in 1970 so I don't know of his relocations. Sam was a fine man and good friend of my father.

Why didn't you park and walk around it. Get close shots? You probably could have gotten into it. I don't think anyone would have cared!
