by a little gum lagoon
'neath the gum tree shade
there dwells my lady love
where the moonbeams fade
every night I watch and wait
to see this dark eyed dove
when she gazes up above
sly old moon she winks at her
with one big smile
makes me feel so jealous
coz I wants her for my own
so I sing to mamie all the while
underneath the old gum tree
listen honey girl to me
say you love me Mamie
I'll be sad if you should blame me
all my love for you am real
kisses sweet I'd like to steal
Mamie I'm so lonely
say you love me only
underneath the old gum tree
as you listen to my tale
mamie turn to me and then
I won't feel sad
see the moon am turning pale
reads in your eyes a glance
that makes him mad
as the shadows come and go
put your hand in mine
and say you will be true
and my heart will whisper
while you gently cling to me
words that bind me closer
dear, to you
