This week I show you a 100 year old camp stove and how to operate it! It is pretty different compared to our modern camp stoves, but after 100 years and no refurbishment it fires right up!

Absolutely fascinating. My dad had a bicycle pump like that in the early to mid-1970s. Although not directly related, the Michelin star system for restaurants was also inspired to capitalize on the popularity of driving, although focussed on Europe for the first 100 years (first US guide in 2005). The tire company awarded stars in order to get people to drive more, and presumably wear out their tires.

Just this morning I purchased an AGM Kamp KooK #6 stove for 14.00$. I was shocked that contained all the original parts. The number 6 stove has a wind screen and little feet that plug into the bottom so it actually looks like a Proper household stove. Another reason for purchasing the stove was I also have a working AGM lantern. I have a variety of camping equipment I use from 1930 to 1950 including A completely serviceable JC Higgins canvas four person Cabin tent. To be honest i've only used the tent twice Because it is quite ponderous and requires at least 2 people to set up. I'm now subscribed into your KZbin channel because I love this type of thing and in the background of this video I see a number of things which I Also own. I suggest you go out and find a seater heater If you haven't already done so, It can warm up the inside of a meadium tent quite nicely. Thanks for the great video. 😊

I am reminded WHY I was pleased to migrate from this type of gas stove to pressurized canister stoves: Our Coleman white gas stove was too bulky and heavy for backpacking. The second burner was so weak and prone to be wind-blown as to be 'useless.' For car camping, I used two IWATAMI butane stoves and got two useful burners in the same sized package as our Coleman suitcase stove! Set up and take down was also much faster.

Certainly! My scouts got two used Coleman propane stoves donated to them. This was a serious upgrade from the white gas ones they were used to and celebrated the first time they made a meal on them with cheers, lol.

for the time that is a relatively compact unit during the initial lighting period did you notice the occasional tiny yellow flame coming from the feeding tube

They certainly did brother. There is something cool about lighting the fuel cup to vaporize the fuel in the lines though....but just not as reliable (or safe) as the pump in the tank.

As far as the canvas question, if it is not dry rotted then I would use a wax and blow dryer and use linen thread. Cheers!

I can certainly see what the old Colemans that we used when I was growing up in the 50s was based upon. Very interesting...thanks. What are you using to fuel that old stove now, Coleman liquid fuel or can you still find white gas? I remember going down to our local COOP and buying white gas for our camp stove but I haven't seen it for many years.

I use Crown white gas that is carried in my local walmart.
