*The Oldest Flying DC-10!!* FedEx DC-10 (DC10) landing and departing Montreal- (YMX/CYMX)

Built in 1971, this is the oldest DC-10 still flying and is the oldest aircraft in the Fedex widebody fleet! This is the 6th DC10 to roll off the production line, bu was delivered to United in July of 1971. By 1997, Fedex had bought it and converted to Cargo and in 2006, Fedex converted this DC10 to an MD-10 (upgraded avionics).
After 47 years of service, here she is landing/ departing Montreal on a regular cargo route from Fedex's world hub in Memphis! It is a real pleasure to be able to catch such an cold beauty...

Massimo Romaniello nonsense...twinjets are more economical under ETOPS rules. It has nothing to do with safety. The DC 10 was unsafe initially because of a bad cargo door design. Once that was fixed it was as safe as any plane In the sky

@@smopuim well most of the major shippers use the same aircraft type, I know UPS does for sure. And old doesn't mean unsafe or unreliable, our ACMX guys do an excellent job keeping them in good working order and FedEx has an excellent safety record as far as our aircraft go

@@marblox9300 most of the avionics was also a mixed bag of success. The a/c needed a pretty large pitch up to be fuel efficient. Cabin crews didn't like that, even if it was just a few degrees. The MD11 didn't go well either. (not mentioning in/accidents) The biggest issues were in the maintenance area for both of them. The MD11 was called "Major Delay 11". In that time, maintained also the 744 (747-400), 743 (747-300), and the 767. The lattter had the least issues and delays. Never liked the MCD's. I took the delivery flight of the PH-KCB by the way -- in the factory when 1994 Northridge earthquake happened. Good and bad memories ...

4 or 5 years ago i got into aviation because i saw an Air Crash Investigation video in my recommended. When i found out about the DC10 i was hooked instantly. And when i later found out about the MD 11 i fell in love with these planes even more, they're so beautiful, powerful, so raw and atleast with the DC 10 have an interesting (and tragic) story. Im more of a car and bike guy now but i still enjoy some airplane stuff from time to time. This video was awesome!

Wonderful video! My first DC-10 flight was in 1973, as a college student (AA LGA-BUF). Once the design problems were engineered out of the aircraft, it became a very safe workhorse (and really, it was only the cargo door issue; the engine/pylon disaster was due to American’s faulty maintenance). It’s great to still see them flying.

I fell in love with this plane in the late 70s when I saw that amazing big engine on the back, loved it the most ever since. We did not have the DC10 in Australia. We had the smaller ones. I flew on a smaller one from Sydney to Western Australia. Thank you for your video

@@philmontejano5971 _Pretty accurate. I believe of the 17 MD10-10s still flying for FedEx(9 will be retired this fiscal year, and the other 8 by May 2021). As for the 12 MD10-30s, they'll be retired early in the fiscal year for 2022. And apparently the 56 MD11s are not scheduled for decommissioning anytime soon._

This plane finally got retired and sent to VCV recently. 48 years is pretty good. Next oldest is Cindy (N368FE) at a little over 47 and a half years.

_Great point. And yes N368FE still flies for FedEx. The plane's inaugural flight was 3/9/1971, then delivered to United Airlines 12/20/71. Sometime in the 90s it was reconfigured as cargo livery for FedEx, and respectfully became known just as Cindy. _*_Cool fact:_*_ 62 - DC10s(MD10s) and 59 - MD11s still fly for FedEx. Cindy was the 17th McDonnell Douglas jet manufactured out of 446 made._

I flew CP Air, Sydney to Toronto via Honolulu on their orange DC10 in may 1981. Also had to fly on a 727-200 Advanced of TAA. Trans Australia Airlines. Melbourne to Sydney. No direct flights to Canada back then. Being 20 I could not even get a beer. Yet I could back in Australia.

Fedex acquired 6 of these planes from United back in the day. They were freighters , .FEDEX LAX HVMX did a "D" check on them. I learned alot how it works and etc. it was great fun we rebuilt four in a row.

Such a cool looking plane. Something about the nose and windshield makes it look fierce. Should add new modern engines and let it fly again. That being said I was in one when I was little flying from Atlanta to SFO when the tail engine stopped. I remember dropping in altitude so fast we felt weightless before landing in Denver.

I hate when people mistake this as a very dangerous aircraft. The cargo doors accidents were pretty common back then it even happed with the 747. Plus, its also pretty much the Airlines foult for bad maintenance. If you think positivly, you might just remember how much did the DC-10 changed aviation. It was one of the 1st wide-body aircraft. Never rate the book from its cover.

The L-1011 looks better I like the DC-10 but the 2nd engine just looks odd the 1011s 2nd engine looks like it belongs on the aircraft. On the DC-10 looks like it was just added to the tail.

Respectfully disagree I felt the exact opposite, the 1011 was weird with all of the cowling and S duct design just seems weirdly inefficient and needlessly over complicated the aircraft. Now unique airplane for sure still love the 1011 In its own right but love the dc/md a tad more.

No, that one had tail number N306FE, I work at FedEx and have seen it, it still has scratch marks from the hammers on the interior to this day
