Hi, developer here. I would just like to try to explain what might be happening here. See youtube is pretty smart, its basically what we call a web app. This means it has page caching so the computer doesn't need to constantly refresh, thus youtube is made with static and dynamic elements. In this particular situation, it appears to be that youtube has cached the upload page and the browser is still holding on to that cache instead of updating. I suspect that the video isn't uploading at all, but instead, some of the dynamic elements like the loading bar have been frozen as part of the current state but some elements like getting the current date are still working. What this leads to is the active scripts (in cache) trying to calculate the time remaining with the date and time in accordance to how much time it has taken to upload the bit it got stuck at, in essence, that website isn't communicating with youtube at all, instead its mix and match of dismembered code trying to function how it used to before all the youtube updates. That's why refreshing the site breaks since it needs to hard reset the cache to update to the current version. But that is just my suspicion, to be completely sure if I'm right I suggest you go to developer tools in chrome and check for any network connections to or from youtube, I think it would be either empty or filled with 404 or similar messages due to youtube backend API changes. So not much of a mystery here. I suggest downloading the chrome extension Save Page WE or something similar to download all of the files from the website so you can have an offline backup of the forever uploading video and maybe share it with us here. If you do share it please reply with a link here, it would be a cool find. Feel free to ask any questions, I will reply when I have the time. Now that I solved it I'd love if @TheTekkitRealm could pin this so people can have some closure to the situation. Thanks.

I actually don't think a connection can EVEN last that long. KZbin probably broke the connection years ago. They probably have a TTL expiring rate, I mean, for the video to be uploading for that long it means the server also had to be "up" for over 13 years. Sure, youtube/google have lot's of caching rules and stuff, the video gets distrubuted like a "virus" along their network if a video is popular (you can say mrbeast or pewdiepie's for example) they have cache servers at ISP's and so on for that. but my point is when uploading you are uploading to an single node, and I highly doubt that server is even up for 13 years waiting and keeping the TCP connection on, it probably expired a long time ago and maybe the youtube studio just doesnt show it.

The fact that it was uploaded so long ago, using an older KZbin layout, means it might be attempting to use an older system for uploading videos, potentially meaning it's trying to upload to a server that doesn't exist anymore. It probably won't ever be finished just because of this fact.
@hariranormal55843 жыл бұрын
Yep. True, KZbin must have a expriring TTL on how long a socket can even be held open, I don't know, I doubt youtube doesn't have it it can be a crazy big number like 96 hours or so, but I am sure they have a expring number

Yeah and every time you reload the page you’d have to reselect the file from your computer because the browser doesn’t allow a web page to access any local file without being selected first. I don’t seem to recall the person mentioning anything about that? Also, I doubt that after all those years that the way that they stored the number of bytes uploaded of the file (to resume the download) would be the same, so it shouldn’t have remembered that there was an upload in progress. Also, he said he didn’t want to touch it as it had historical significance blah blah, which suggests that he did NOT have access to the original file, which he would need to in order for the upload to be resumed.

Yup, low res and white washed screenshots (an old computer would still take decent screenshots, not to mention them being super bright), a lot of things mention 13 (13 years, 13%, 13 Minutes and so on) which is a bit odd, the fact his Laptop never died while being in use for 13 years (even if plugged in the battery would fail as would the VRM and CPU from stress), His Internet must have had to have stayed the same all these years, never be turned off, the laptop never be unplugged or turned off which I find VERY hard to believe. All together I think this is someone with an old channel who realised they could start to gain views again, it is not hard to right click, inspect and change the code to whatever you want (or use wayback machine and do the same). The most probable is that the video will never be uploaded because of the laptop dying before this or by simply KZbin being KZbin and blocking a copyrighted video. And all of this raises me the question of what is the longest or still processing video in this platform?

The video isn't uploading anymore and hasn't for a long time. The YT page is cached and he's seeing the old data with the upload screen still displaying the last data it had before it lost its connection. It will never finish because there's no active connection there. This is the equivalent of a car breaking down in the middle of a road while en route somewhere, and the owner abandoning it, and then someone coming along later and saying "The longest trip in the world where after 15 years of traveling it's still not at its destination."

Alright, now I'm feeling scammed. Back in the slower internet days I uploaded some long full gaming sessions in 1440p60 to KZbin. Those files could easily be 80GB in size or more, getting dangerously close to the 128GB size limit. My poor 5MBit upload of 2014 internet took 2-3 full days for one video to fully upload. Whenever I exceeded the 3 days barrier, it would simply abort the active upload, saying "upload failed" and I had to start over. Not a problem anymore today, as they finally dug up my street and now I'm on 175 Down/40 up. Not South Korea level but at least i can upload a long high quality video over night.

The URL on the left of the screen at 6:37 leads to an already existing video from 2018 called "Tin Canning Lids?" Also the first screenshot is inaccurate to what the KZbin uploading feature looked like in 2007/2008. I've been on KZbin since 2010 and that particular uploading screen wasn't used until about 2012 or 2013.

A lot. Having a huge bacbone in it's own is super hard. there are over 100,000 googlevideo nodes, some of them are at ISP's and most are at google datacenters. Its surely hard to manage hosting service like youtube or google for that matter
