Good discussion, as always. I couldn't raise pigs or sheep for meat simply because their personalities remind me too much of dogs. Even after butchering a few dozen chickens over the years, I still get emotional having to do the deed and they have no personality in comparison to the more affectionate intelligent species. I couldn't imagine putting a pig or sheep down after interacting with them on a daily basis. Think I'll just stick to chickens and bees since that's what I know. Kudos to anyone stronger than me that's willing to butcher their own larger livestock.

I agree. It’d be hard to do with something you’ve raised and bonded with. Too bad taco trees don’t exist

@@TheBackwoodsHermit It was really hard last year for Passover. We didn’t have the ram for longer than a week and already I could tell how sweet and gentle he was. Chickens and bees are great, too! If I had one homestead animal I’d have to stick with, it’d definitely be the versatile chicken.

I love that you can discuss religion and still be funny. So many people get sanctimonious and it's off putting. "if a herd of humans walked by" cracked me up. I'm in Australia and have chooks, sheep and cattle, dogs cats and fish. But I also have a saying "We don't eat our friends, we only eat strangers.' i'm too soft to ever kill and eat anything I know. Good luck with your homesteading.

@@allisonkeevers6076 Thank you so much for the acknowledgment! I think your saying is spot on. That’s why we only name the sheep/chickens we intend to keep for reproducing. Whatever they reproduce… won’t have a name 😳🍽️🙃

Thanks for one of the most entertaining videos I've ever seen. It was nothing like I thought it would be. Certainly covered a wide variety of subjects. I worked with pigs for years, and they are one of the most intelligent animals I've came across. One of the reasons I left research. Hope you never have to do it, but don't eat the brain, or spinal cord. The rest is OK , but highly illegal.

@@robert-yv2yj I have heard pigs are very intelligent. Can’t say the same for chickens!

@@miscellaneousme True. But could teach my hens and ducks to go in by rattling my keys. Otherwise they did what they wanted.
