Rebbeca Robbesen just did this a couple weeks ago with the same title. Also I think Christmas decorating really can’t have “ mistakes” Christmas is where the heart is. It’s all personal what you love. We shouldn’t commercialize it unless that is your taste, not what is someone else’s taste is. Sure you can try new things etc. but not do what’s in or your “mistakes”.

Different people seem to do wildly different Xmas decorating. I don’t think it’s possible to get Xmas decor “wrong”, per se. It’s the one time of the year when less is less! An abundance of ribbons, bows, Santas, woodland animals…just go nuts….it really cheers the soul. I think some people don’t put up ENOUGH Xmas decor all over the house. I went to this little cafe today and every millimetre of it was covered with decorations: fireplace scenes, trees, candles, woodland animals, fake presents…you just couldn’t move hardly and it felt amazing rather than overkill! It was so generous, fun and cosy ☺️

Agree 100%. The only holiday mistake is to follow someone else's directions. I have lovely things that come out year after year, but I also like to change things (I love getting stuff at flea markets, thrift shops, etc) but everything is unique to me and my family, regardless of fashion or trends. Appreciate Valentina's guidance though - she has great ideas :))

Yes I totally agree about the wrapping paper. I pick a colour and theme and order wrapping, bows etc as well as disposable dinner ware and napkins. And it can be so simple like “nature” = twigs, craft paper, acorns, bird houses for the tree……

I’m into the plaid this year and my kids want the tradition tartan red and emerald green and adding cream and very little black. I like pottery barn because they do traditional style and it’s still warm and tasteful

*Switching Things Up* . This is my goal each Holiday season. I love the creative challenge. I pick up stems, picks, ribbon, etc. when they are clearance after the season. I scored some great picks from Joanne's today as well as 5ft. tree from Big Lots for $45. I don't have the space to do a large tree and haven't done a stand-alone tree in nine years, very excited for this season. Brown, Black, Rusty Bells with a few flocked pinecone stems will be my 2023 palette.

I am that person who changes everything up with my holiday decor every year.....its never the same and never done on Auto pilot.......because I'm also that Christmas FREAK who chooses and creates a different theme and a different color scheme every year......and EVERYTHING, from the gift wrap to the type of greenery(flocked or not), to the floral picks, to the lights, to the ribbons to the ornaments and the table top decor ALL HAS TO MATCH.......so I'm also that person who does look to go out and buy new every year, to whatever extent my nonexistent budget permitts......which means I'm the Christmas lunatic running around like crazy trying to do all the DIYs, lol........one day I will simply have to have a large Christmas room dedicated to storing all of my Christmas collection and I will just be able to "shop" for any color scheme and any theme from my collection

My adult kids come home for Xmas so I bought 2 additional trees for their bedrooms. Being they are not huge rooms, I bought pencil trees which fit perfectly in a corner. They love it. I also bought additional tree for our more formal living room to sit next to the piano. We still have the tree in the family room. I hope to buy one more pencil tree for our main bedroom one year. They are not extremely expensive and last for many years.

In my she cave I put my tree to one side one year then the other side on another. But my main thing is a theme. And yes I keep a lot of wrapping paper and tissues. I've saved some beautiful wrapping paper and put it on as a background of a spot I'm decorating at. Ex white polar beers with a blue background with stars for an outside effect. My cousin always picks out the prettiest wrapping paper and that's one way I repurpose it. 😁

I had made many of your suggested change ups for Christmas prior to watching today's video because just over a month ago I moved into a new place. I had to buy a bigger tree because the space needs it. But I made many decor decisions that make my Christmas look much different than that of the past. For the first time, I am using flocked garland and am liking it. I have also made my tree lighter and brighter with white and silver ornaments. Using silver rather than gold with my metals is the biggest and best change of all. Who knew?

Love your classy decor and mindful gift wrappings. If you have room for it, and it looks good, I think it would be fun to place the Christmast tree in different places. After 16 years in one house we are now in another one that is really traditional and 130 years old. It will be fun to decorate this home for the first time. So true this year I realise I have lot of staff but I miss these old fashioned ornements I saw in my childhood who remember me these time where everyone was happy and where things had deep meaning. I put up two big themed trees and each of my four kids have trees in their rooms with all their ornaments. I put up archways, garlands and lights on the stairs , etc… I make it really fun and whimsically for my kids. Eventually I’ll make it more sophisticated. All my Christmas decor is in the same color palette.

i do it differently every year, and the wrapping paper and entire decor, tablescapes, go with it. this year i’m going for dull greens, loden, natural greenery, forest-y. i’ve had the tree in every corner of the living room. i start right at the end of november, like to have the decorating done to enjoy other things at home.

I always had a lot of different Christmas gift wrap leftovers in my house. Then, my very young son asked me, one day. "Mom, how come Santa is using the same wrap for the gifts?" After that day, I do not buy a lot of gifts wraps anymore. I only buy when I need them. I realized that some people, even at a very young age. can have a photographic memory😂🤣.

Fun vlog. True.. its about having fun with the people you love... not decorations. I would love a tour of your tree showing your eg kids decorations and how they are incorporated and blend with your "trend" tree decor because you can't see them on the tree from afar. Christmas is an ancient celebration and does not follow trends! There is NO RIGHT OR WRONG way to decorate for a religious holiday! Poor Americans!... the consumer industry trys to make you feel bad if you don't waste more of your hard earned money on more environmentally bad plastic decor to destroy the planet and get you in more debt, buying crap you don't need. And then you have to store it all.. which costs time, energy and money eg bigger houses, garages, storage units! Ridiculous! Ps. Sometimes you have to put the tree in the same spot because the rooms are small, and that one location is where it fits and/or looks best... eg in 100, 200, 300, 400yr old houses and cottages that are typical in the UK and Europe! Pps. in Europe we buy (high quality, more expensive) glass and wood ornaments, real candles.. adding slowly over the years... and we also have kids, babies, pets!. It is not dangerous ..our kids grow up learning to respect and take care when helping decorate the tree. When they are babies the wood and felt decor goes low, when they help decorate the tree, they start hanging felt, wood decor, then cheaper generic glass balls, and then finally the individual expensive glass decor when they are older. It is never an issue.

I’m crazy I have 1 big tree do this one classic old fas on red green 3 med trees one shades of pink and. Brown with copper one is Disney and crazy ornaments 1with all bright colors 2. Small mature trees one of them is all vintage ornaments 1 is just lights If I had room I would have 1 more all girly in my office. Just changing ribbons or mixing ribbons makes a tree feel fresh and. Sometimes change up furniture

Several years ago I found the Scandinavian word for my feelings about the architecture and interior design that I have always loved, actually I was into something that is now known as "hygge". Comfort, cozy, warm in cold weather, warm drink, a great book a healthy meal, candlelight. I love the country, everything about it. Cities are fun for me, but not where I choose to live. Cottage core fits my home. I do not have a black and white home. I , like many people ,, purposely , I design my house by allowing the architecture to lead. My kitchen redo, that I designed is very like DeVol kitchens of England. Love them, because we share the same design vibe. I do quite well, considering my funds are limited. But are and design are part of me and hygge is too. I like Scandi minimalism, because it is not cold. I know someone who has plenty of money, but both of her homes take me short of hygge. My favorite design magazines are mostly from Europe. I do like modern, hygge fits most design. I like books, family heirlooms ,and art. I hope everyone discovers hygge. Much love
