As someone born and raised in Michigan, firstly, welcome :) and secondly, when learning to drive in heavy snow you can never be too cautious. Start stopping for a red light EARLY. Like way before you think you need to. Don't be afraid of looking silly because it's a lot better to drive like a grandma than to slide into the car in front of you or worse, through the intersection.
