The hardest thing to do is breaking the old habits. You don’t have to hit a thousand balls to fix them either. This drill is a perfect example. You can ingrain this feeling with this drill. In the military we talked about backward planning all the time. This is a great example. What do I have to do to finish my swing like this. The only answer is relax. Dance de la golf. Great drill Phil!

@@EasiestswingPhilip, I know your brother Brian is looking down from heaven proud of how far Easiest Swing has come from that first video he made. I’m so glad he went with his instincts and didn’t say a word. It completely changed my perspective. I finished watching that video wanting to know how he could achieve such an effortless swing, and I can see you using much less effort than you did a couple of years ago. Well done. 😊

I just purchased the Positive Impact Golf book. I enjoyed Brian's descriptions of your relationship very much. Thank you for continuing his legacy. You explain things in a very clear and concise manner. As a 74 year old golfer who started playing at age 45, I've watched many hours of video instruction and read many golf books. I play golf left handed but am right handed. My best 18 hole scores have been in the 70s with a couple of 77s. Recently I made my third hole in one! I shot below par for the first time that round for nine holes at two under par. I'm going to watch more of your instruction and see if I can do it again!

The starter told one of the guys I was paired with that I was a legend though I did not play like one on the front, on the back I came around. Plus, the guy was probably close to scratch. Anyway, I walked into the clubhouse, and they gave me envelope with $100 in it. I thought I pushed I had 2 birdies on par 5's, but I won 2 skins as I only pushed one of them, and I won both the net and gross. That was from the past weekend. You guys should get a cut of that. The finish is now my focus. I want to finish balanced and comfortable. So, thanks, again.

Philip thanks for this - very helpful. For wedge approach shots to the green I see a lot of players with a shorter more controlled shot and hands in front of them to the left - ie they deliberately don't make a full turn, I assume to control distance. Certainly you don't do this for a chip shot - so if it's finish as you say for driver and not for a sand wedge, there must be a "crossover" point as you move down the bag when you stop doing the full turn?. Appreciate any insights.
@Easiestswing
@Easiestswing 4 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right that as you get close enough to the target that you no longer need a full swing that you will gradually reduce the size of the swing (and the turn required). Think of it more as turning the dial down rather than fixed points where things change more severely.

Mr. Sparks, I have noticed that at address that your club is hoevering behind the ball, not sitting on the turf. Does this give you a better backswing?

Well spotted - I never decided to do this deliberately it just kind of ingrained itself into my swing about 35 years ago and I feel it helps me to never get static which is always to be avoided. It’s worth experimenting with and see how it works for you.

Hey Philip I have been watching your videos for the last year and they have had a huge impact on me, but for some reason this one is what tied at all together for me. The idea of holding the relaxed ending pose completely transforms every swing. This is the most effective tool for eliminating tension that I have found. I just had my best round of golf and my most enjoyable round of golf after implementing this simple suggestion.

@robinc3307
@robinc3307 4 ай бұрын
Turning you lead foot a bit doesn't open your stance... unless you pull your lead foot back....which isn't what he's telling you to do...keep your heal in the same place ..move the front of your foot to the target ......everything is is square....

That’s an interesting point - a line across your toes would indeed be a little more open but across your heels wouldn’t change. Senior golfers also often find a shut stance makes the turn a little easier to achieve in the backswing. At the end of the day forget the “traditional rules of conformity” and be prepared to experiment within these perimeters and see what works best for you. Enjoy finding out!!
@pedroc6823
@pedroc6823 4 ай бұрын
Interesting , now at 58, a slightly open stance helped me regain some swing speed. When I tried the opposite a slight closed stance to draw the ball I could not easily rotate to a finish. But I was able to focus on making sure that my stance was slightly open but the shoulder line was square to slightly closed. This gave me the freedom back because I felt like my body stopped at impact and my arms released too early.

Is your finish position a constant or does it vary based on what ball flight/imagined ball flight you are trying to produce? I am new to the easiest swing method but am absolutely loving it. I can hit high fades, low fades and straight shots on command just by imagining them, but I cannot figure out the draw even when I hyper visualize it.
@Easiestswing
@Easiestswing 4 ай бұрын
If you want to learn to draw the ball - start by setting the club (mid iron, 6 being the best) 5° closed before you take hold of it then 10°, 15°, 20 etc and watch what happens to the ball keep going more and more closed until the ball starts to move left in the air. Once this happens the ball will be going a long way left (if you’re right handed) so start aiming your body further right to compensate. At some point you’ll discover a comfortable draw but in what will feel a very odd way to you. Once you are doing this your follow through can start to finish as per any other swing in pretty much the same position as you were doing beforehand. It’s also worth going 5°, 10° and more beyond this point until it becomes so extreme the ball doesn’t get airborne. This is all part of learning clubface control and understanding the feel of open square and shut positions.

@irongreygon
@irongreygon 4 ай бұрын
@@Easiestswing So in experimenting on the range, I found that closing the clubface at address did not help me. My body still managed to produce a fade or slice. What I did discover was being more active with my hands during my forward swing really changed my shot shape. I have always had passive hands in my swing, and I think this is what has caused my open clubface. I was actually able to produce a left to right ball flight and replicate it. I had to start changing my stance further to the right as you suggested above. During my practice swings, I would face the target imagining the right to left ball flight and also imagining what my hands would need to do through impact to produce it. Not sure if this is correct, but it worked!

This was a quote I read from Wild Bill Mehlhorn who was the leading money winner for three years in the twenties (1900’s!) and was recognised as one of the best ball strikers of all time. Even Hogan was in awe of him. This was one of his core beliefs that “the follow through is more important than the backswing.” I feel sure that a huge number of golfers would benefit from this advice. Thanks for following us.
