It makes you wonder if you could isolate the eggs and feed them vinegar eels or something extremely small while they are fry until they’re big enough for brine shrimp. I also wonder if the alternating life cycle /spawn points are to allow the ecosystem to rebound after a mass of voracious eaters.
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I do know that eels are similar and theyve tried just about everything ... i think they need sunlight and some very specific microfoods ... they are so small they are about 1/10th of a vinegar eel...literally a microscope is needed to see new fry

The gobies are really interesting. Thanks for sharing! The video touches on something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I have a small group of Amano shrimp, of which only one seems to be female. She's berried practically all the time, but of course, those eggs are not viable in our aquariums either. She's a ferocious eater, always hungry, and has to be fanning those eggs all the time. I've started to feel quite badly about the amount of energy that all takes, when there isn't even viable offspring to make it feel worthwhile. I've wondered - would she be better off in a tank by herself? Though I think having other shrimp around makes them feel more safe, so I don't know. Just something I've been pondering...
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 2 жыл бұрын
Very good and tricky question... i think theyre better off in small groups though... sometimes the females still carry a saddle of eggs if they are totally alone...they just never make it to carrying the eggs externally
@pjp9383
@pjp9383 2 жыл бұрын
@@Fishtory Ah, never thought of the possibility that they could be expending the same energy even if they were alone. And I've heard that they like to be in groups too, and I definitely see the group of them more than I see the single one I can't seem to catch out of another tank! If I had more of them, I could try to sort two groups, males from females. Guess I will leave well enough alone for now...

Thank you, I certainly do enjoy listening to you about your gobies and other fish. Back in June I purchased six gobies and Red tail tetras .. I wish someone would’ve told me all of them are jumpers lost four of the red tails ,and two micro neons. I was heart broken 😞,I now have a glass top on my aquarium . Always Learning something new ,heck of a way to do it though . Will be purchasing more gobies From Aquatic Arts . Just purchased a new Fluval 32.5 aquarium got a great deal on it because it was on sale. Can’t wait to get it set up and move my Hillstream loaches ,Gobies and other nano fish into it .Going to transfer some of the substrate,stones ,and plants ..My old tank is on it’s last legs LOL .Because of my age (never ask a lady her age)--the new tank will be easier to take care of . Sorry this is so long ,but that’s just me .(I just go on and on and on) LOL Okey almost done ,,one question- in one of your aquariums you have a stone with a hole in it ,just small enough for a nano fish to swim through or other fish to play .Do you recall where you purchased it. I know that’s an odd question but I’ve been looking for something like that for a long time . Thank you for taking the time to read this .Have a great day,be safe ,stay healthy. I do appreciate you.

Hey there! That sounds like an awesome tank youre planning! I have thought about doing the same thing... you can fit dozens of stiphdons in a big bowfront.. and hopefully they'll "climb" the tall walls! That rock was at target as a hard plastic fake rock for hiding a house key in.... and it had a little rubber plug in the bottom that i punched out them trimmed off. It was only 5 or 6 dollars too!

Alexander, please offer your Stiphodon current. Difference in behavior is immense. Take stone, add water plus silikatgel and put that bowl into light. Diatom occur and put these stones into the tank. Absolutely necessary to survive for them. Green algae is not sufficient. Problem with stiphodon larvaes is not just the saltwater but also that these larvaes firstly have no mouth. No idea how to feed them.
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, most my Stiphodon tanks have HOB that drips 4 to 6 inches and they all get turns with power heads for a week on and a week off (other than the riffles and Cobalt. Most are going on 2 years+ and I have 11 species currently...also all those racks get natural sunlight a few hours a day, and have silica based sand to encourage diatomaceous algae. Free floating algae and various soft kinds. They also seem to eat scuds, seed shrimp and small crustaceans quite voraciously (which most literature doesn't mention)

Yeah sadly ive seen the same thing dozens of times. They need to get into tropical coral reefs asap for the micro algae and plankton...or they die
