Thanks bill. I use the marlin spike hitch too, I just like to try new techniques. Seem like I try something new every time I go out. :)

Nice, will be trying this one for sure. I'm usually a ring buckle & garda hitch guy but this looks just as quick and simple. Possibly a few oz lighter if a robust stick can withstand the force and substitute for a packed toggle. Thanks red!

It's hard to say how much force the toggle is under, but a proper stick might just work. Be safe when testing. :)

Thanks! You're right, it's definitely fiddly, and this may have pre-dated the widespread use of beckets and j-bends for hammock suspension. I still use it every once in a great while just to not forget how. 😀

I haven't tried it yet with anything that could crush. I've only tried with solid toggles.
