I don’t know how common it is, but the seal washers on the top of the injectors on the return line need to be replaced any time they’ve been disturbed too. Apparently a lot of people skip that and reuse them. Apparently the fuel dilution in the lube oil caused by reusing them if they don’t seal properly, will write one off too.

Top info as usual, thanks Peter. My reco 1kD-FTV engine is fantastic. Shane and the boys from Next Level Performance did a good job on the swap. I’m doing the oil changes every 6 months or 5000 whichever comes first. I use a flush and AW10 from CEM Cost Effective Maintenance and Penrite full synthetic. With the engine guard in place (sensor bolted to the rear of the head) I should know if it overheats. EGT guage of course helps to but doesn’t have an alarm like the engine guard. I think it’s cheap insurance for engine protection. I want this one to last more than 400,000 klms. Am thinking about a Project vehicle workhorse, likely old school 1HD, 1HZ. Don’t like the new V8’s. I like simplicity not complexity.

Hi Peter, love you videos. They are nice and short but very informative. I have 2 cruisers that I am not sure when the timing belts were last done. Can you give an indication of how long it would take a mechanic to fit a new belt, tensioner and idler?

All different engines have different times, Toyota engines are generally the cheapest ones to have belts replaced

Why would toyota not just use a timing chain?
