Here's another trick for dephasing LFOs, not sure if it applies to the Peak but I use this on my Prophet 12: In the mod matrix assign note value to LFO rate by a small amount. Now every note you play will change the rate of the LFO slightly so they will never really be in phase with each other.

If you want that analog magic Do the same (Note Value) and matrixe it to the SCALING by a small amount of -1 or -2 That would do the trick if you want to leave the LFO’s alone. It Works on prophet 8 REV2 also
@Chaosbar4 жыл бұрын
Novation should add a "Random" option for the LFO Phase setting to do this automatically. (That won't let you control relative offsets, but voices don't necessarily play in order anyway.) A fixed phase offset for every next note played could also be pretty interesting. Or, imagine adding a sequencer track to control LFO phase and running it in key trigger mode.
@keybeardist4 жыл бұрын
100% agree with this, a 'random' and 'spread' phase option might work well, where 'spread' sets evenly spread phase offsets across the voices. As an aside, it would also be nice if there was a way to reset the LFO at initial keypress when the arp is on, without it resetting for every note that the arp plays...
@samiam90592 жыл бұрын
Not really any true Random in digital. It would make a "seed" value as the changing number for a random value. Analog is where real "random" is possible.

This is basically what i constantly do on my custom Roland Gaia patches and it's really really easy to achieve on that synth. You can either link all 3 Synth layers together so they all use the same LFO routing parameters or you assign them individually. I mostly use it a lot for dynamic pads or for self-oscillating filter noise sounds. It's insane how complex they become even with just 3 individual layers. Combined with some delay and reverb (or pitch-shift) you can shape it even more.

@RickyTinez: Thanks for this awesome video. As some other guys on this channel I tried it immediately on my peak, virus ti2 and prophet rev 2. It's quite interesting that on rev 2 you can get a similar sounding effect pressing the key sync knob. Switching on the virus all of the lfos are oscillating as free as they should from the beginning. So this seems to be a special thing on the peak (may be a bug?) as switching on this great machine the lfos of each voice are in synchronized phase . Once you brought the lfos to real independing oscillating it works on every patch.

As it is I already love the parameter drift capability on it and often set my lfo's to different things like you did here. If I actually have one per voice that I can set free like that to the different voices though I will be incredibly stoked! I love LFO's and this is is like learning instead of 2 I might actually have 2 for each of the 12 voices? That's insane to even think about!

This is cool but you know what would be cooler? A phase spread option! Also, a way to reset the phases of all free running LFOs or at LEAST let them start at 0 when they get a MIDI start. Same problem with the Digitakt. Every time you press play the phase is different, weak sauce. Non deterministic free running synced LFOs are common but it doesn't have to be that way! It took until Live 10 for Ableton to get this right but now even their stock max LFOs start at the correct phase points relative to MIDI clock (just start a track mid beat and watch the phase on the LFO jump to the correct spot - AMAZING)

Other polysynths might require fairly different approaches to get similar results. For example I don't think the Synthstrom Deluge allows its polyphonic LFO (LFO2) to have phase adjusted or offers a "free," but it does allow modulating frequency by note with adjustable depth (for repeating unpredictable rhythms) or by a random value for each note (for non-repeating rhythms).

Dude thanks. I got a peak a couple of weeks ago and I've been looking for ways to add more movement to my patches. This is perfect! Great vid
@3DPDK4 жыл бұрын
A customize-able arpeggiator. Also, the slight and out of sync frequency shifting is noticeable and (usually) pleasing to our ears because like our eyes that focus more on movement, our ears also "pay attention" more to phase shifting sounds, which also indicate movement. Our legacy instincts have a huge effect on how we respond to external stimulation. Phase shifted sound is why a lot of people love the way a full orchestra violin section sounds, but don't really care for a solo violin. Each violin may be playing the same note (frequency), but the strings are vibrating at minutely different phases. This also happens if each violin is a few hertz (cents) off in either direction from the actual note. We hear the intended note but the cyclic phase shifting creates a tone rich in harmonics.

Great idea for a vid/great vid! For me I realized this evolving concept when I first used pcm sample based synths like Roland D550 or K2000 because they are based on partials each with their own multistage envelopes so creating lush evolving pads means spending some time editing those, of course synthesis provides many ways of "evolution" of different parameters and this is also a great one.... (and on THIS tip I would say I learned about this concept from eurorack/modular when I encountered Quadrature functions/ oscillators with different spread parameters as is possible with 0_c )

This is something I often hear but can't intuitively replicate in my head because modulation can get pretty complex pretty quickly. I will have to do more experimenting and learning because it's probably one of the coolest aspects of a synthesizer.
@BrockDavissonАй бұрын
That is awesome. So kinda like having a pad sound but with a arp / sequence coming over top of it later.
@kaptainkool1014 жыл бұрын
If you want to do this in serum, you can modulate the fine tuning with an envelope set to retrig and then double down and modulate that fine tune with either (or both!) chaos filters I like to uncheck the BPM box in the envelope settings to create a less specific timing of it. You can also do the above (Retrig/Chaos) of that timing of the envelope for some truly crazy beautiful sounds.
@Omanaite3 жыл бұрын
A similar thing can be done looping a sample, specially if the sample has a percussive element to it, or a transient thing. You start paying attention to how your fingers hit the keys, and how you can play with the looping texture in the pad just by playing a single chord with different timing for each note.
