HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

My father went to prison for a speeding ticket in his early 50s and the prisoners found out about some guy messing with children, and dad straight up volunteered to shank him. This was an old man in for a ticket he always maintained the officer abused his authority to hand out, and dad was full ready to commit a real crime over it when it would undoubtedly extend his sentence. Now I'm glad the guy refused to go in the lock with dad because I got my father back early, but they will go after you over children. Adults are fair game but you don't touch the young ones.

The child is more important. I was playing in a lake with my son (10 months). Being close to the pier with others nearby I was okay with it. Suddenly the depth dropped and we were under water. I pushed my son above the water holding him up under his arm. I started inching my way back to the earlier depth. Someone realised we were in trouble and grabbed my boy. Getting to a place I could stand above the water again and breathing once more was welcomed. I was too busy keeping my son above water to deal with the fact I wasn't breathing. Humans protect their children.

Well, it is an alien point of view. They may not realize there is that much of a difference between genders...or understand our genders. And there are papa bears, so in his research, all the extremes could be considered equivalent. And not all the reports were necessarily human vs idiot pirates; could have been environmental events like fires, runaway vehicles, or structures collapsing. Papa bears, though, usually put the enemy down quickly. Mama bears want the enemy to remember their foolishness when they reincarnate.

Reminds me of Niven’s “Protector” books. A Protector is an alien human ancestor species that undergoes a specific set of mutations shortly after reaching breeding age that boosts intelligence, withers genitalia, hardens the skin and increases strength four or five times human normal. (I lefts a few bits out) They live solely to protect their offspring. They are like biological Terminators if you even get within the same solar system as their offspring.

Yup, I agree. Those of us who are caretakers and willingly spend our free time and emotional energy on caring for children can and will be vicious feral horrors to protect said children, and all while doing our best to make it less scary for said children too (like we see here in the caretaker turning a scary incident into a game for the children). So yeah, I can say most people agree that you don’t stand between a human and their emotional attachment. Hell, I have friends who hate children and I know they would throw hands (seen them throw hands even) in defense of a child to a feral degree. That’s just how social a species we are I think. We get attached and so we go feral, especially for those our brains know are vulnerable, and more so if the caretaking instinct is stronger in us. This is very much why I admire nurses and teachers and other caretakers. While I will say there are exceptions, for the most part I find these are the people who most often are likely to put themselves in harms way for the sake of saving a life….and now I made myself sad thinking about that. I’m sure some of you know where my thoughts went to, certain real world things, and can guess why I found myself saddened.

I know we humans like to believe in the invincible super powered mama bear, however there are videos online of psychos randomly stabbing children at a playground in modern society and all the mothers can do is scream at the perp and fall over. Luckily there was a man trained in combat that intervened, but for mama bear to fight really well, mama bear needs to know how to fight.
