A leading expert on emotional fitness, Nataly Kogan is an entrepreneur, best-selling author, and keynote speaker on a mission to help millions of people struggle less and thrive more in work and life.
Nataly's science-backed Happier Method™ and her contagious energy have helped over a million people live, work, and lead with more connection, joy, and meaning-even during difficult times. She and her work have been featured in hundreds of media outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, TEDx, and SXSW.
Her new book is The Awesome Human Project: Break Free from Daily Burnout, Struggle Less, and Thrive More in Work and Life.
Stop struggling and start living your best life-with the inspiring, proven program that's transformed over a million people.
We are all experiencing unprecedented levels of stress and burnout. Exhaustion is at an all-time high. Leaders are depleted, employees are burning out at an alarming rate, and parents met their breaking point long ago. We are struggling and in desperate need of a new path forward.
In The Awesome Human Project, Nataly Kogan, emotional fitness and leadership expert and author of Happier Now, shows us the way. She makes the compelling case that while challenge in life is constant, struggle is optional. Here, she shares an accessible, super-practical, and unboring guide for reducing daily struggle and burnout-so you can live, work, and lead with more energy, joy, and meaning, even during difficult times.
Nataly wrote The Awesome Human Project in response to her own journey. A refugee who achieved tremendous success, she had come to see struggle as a way of life. But her burnout taught her a powerful lesson: you can’t give what you don’t have. She writes, “Strengthening your emotional fitness is an essential investment in your success and leadership, and an act of love to everyone you care about.”
Filled with simple, science-backed practices and Nataly’s contagious energy, The Awesome Human Project will teach you how to strengthen your emotional fitness skills, create a more supportive relationship with yourself as well as your thoughts and emotions, reduce self-doubt, and cultivate more honest and meaningful connections with others.

I recall years ago asking myself intuitively what my purpose is here. I received "to love yourself." i discounted it like no what human things do i need to do to be or prove love or worth 🤣 i laugh at myself when i think back to that moment when i realized after so much looking outside for happiness and love that my intuition was correct. The mission is to love myself as i am here and now and to inspire or actually remind others to love themselves, too, which they already know is there. We just temporarily forget while here.

This reminds me of Alcoholics Anonymous which teaches self analysis thru the 12 Steps. It encourages us to define our own spirituality which is how I began to seek what was Spiritually real to me. One of the tenets of A A is acceptance. One story says "Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today." Lack of acceptance causes us to believe something in life is not what it "should be". Another helpful piece is the prayer " God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference". It has a lot of power. Just an observation. I loved this show!

To hear someone say we are 7 year olds basically in older bodies is refreshing. It came to me a couple months ago this concept. It gives me a sense of greater compassion for others, cut others a break because everyone is kind of feeling their way in darkness often.

Love the phrase “ self created valley of struggle.” The treating ourself like a loving grandparent when we are about to go down negative Nancy Lane was eye opening. This past week I had an audition for a local music group I’ve been trying to get an audition with for a few years. Well the 2 days following the audition I said every mean abusive “ you suck, why do you even try anymore, you are too old, you aren’t good enough, why are you kidding yourself” kind of banter and at the tail end of my epic pity party and shock I ended up actually getting in. Regardless of the outcome I can’t believe the horror we put ourselves through. I took myself on a very unnecessary mind bending tour of the tower of terror. I think someday we are all going to realize the way we treat ourselves is one of the most important aspects of why we are here. Thanks for another thoughtful discussion. It keeps the hamster wheels turning but in a meditative way 😂

Alex, you always have great guests and each one has been an inspiration for me. Thank you for this powerful , self affirming dialog with Nataly. The concept of “ you are enough” resonated with every core of my being! I got pushed out of my workplace at 58 in 2020 and have been unemployed since then. I have the necessary qualifications but despite every conceivable effort on my part, nothing has worked. So of course , I can relate to everything you and Nataly have said about the brain being a scared child or anticipating the tiger round the corner! My takeaway from this podcast is to be kind to myself and change direction, even if it is a hard decision such as opting for retirement. Thank you both and God bless for helping me get out of “ my valley of struggle”

Alex I had an ah ha moment while listening to this and I wanted to tell you that although Steven Spielberg is this great film maker(I honestly had to look up exactly what he does bc I truly don’t know) I just knew something in movies! So he’s probably made great movies and I’m sure I’ve seen a few…not sure which ones to be honest! I’m sure through his work he’s helped ppl in some way and people aspire to be like him because he is talented but you are my Steven Spielberg bc of this podcast! I don’t want to be you but you have helped to change my life. So you like the blade of grass has a purpose here! I don’t know it was very profound when it hit me! You just never know when you might be the link in someone’s ah ha moment! Maybe I’ve been that link to someone along the way,I don’t know! There really is NO point in comparing ourselves to each-other! We must love ourselves for who and what we are because we truly are enough! Thank you for this podcast it is life changing and I bet in some lives it might be life saving!

"Happiness", or what many people think will make them happy, is different for everyone. For me, I will be happy when I don't have worries about survival and security. I'm now in my 70s and I live in insecurity and anxiety every day. So the "if I only had" thought for happiness will dominate til I'm dead.

My mind keeps getting blown by these interviews, and I'm concerned that I'm going to end up in the hospital with a blown mind. 😳 As usual, this interview is exactly what I needed to hear on this particular day! (As an aside, I worked for a Russian Jewish family, in a kosher-style restaurant, for 18 years. And to answer Nataly's question early in the interview, they did seem happy. 🤠 In large part, I think, because they were doing what they loved.)

What an interesting interview. This is a massive issue and I believe all people struggle with their mindset to one degree or another. Being at peace with oneself is probably the best way to physical and mental well being. Starting from this mind set, everything else seems to be easier, even challenges. Certainly a lot of suffering would have been avoided or alleviated if we were directed into this way of thinking (story of the pink shoelace). Excellent content.

Alex and Nataly, thank you for this conversation! I was attracted to it because I currently feel stuck and that's not a good feeling. But this video offered me the insight that it's really my thoughts deluding me that I'm just that frightened little kid who's afraid to leave the house [fyi, I actually suffered from that when I was around 4. There were times she would have to stand at our front door looking out so that I would play in our front yard. I gradually got out of that awful state due to my mom's intuitive and loving actions]. So I can understand the notion of the mind as a very frightened small child who CAN be gently coaxed out of the fear through the REAL ME being its loving adult.

By the way, I find her quite noisy. Happy to see that she is on the path. Emotions belong to the green wave, thoughts yellow, talk orange, actions the red wave in the human energy spectrum. So being in the Blue, purple and violet bands are very different. It is not stillness. Because we are the observer and stillness is just an illusion. We have to start living beyond our thoughts and emotions and find out true self.
