Its been a while now since Niantic first introduced Routes into Pokémon GO. While this feature has a ton of really good potential, Niantic hasn't met that potential by neglecting it. I think there is one change Niantic could make that would vastly improve Routes and make it relevant!

Things that would improve routes as an experience: 1. Guaranteed Cells per route completion. Not on the ground, in the rewards for completing the route. 2. More cells per route. Increase the cap from 3 a day to 9 and completed routes can get you 1-3 cells per completion. The current grind for cells feels incredibly bad. 3. Definitely need more Zygarde encounters. This is a legendary not a mythic; and should also be tradeable.

I don't ever see Niantic making cells a guaranteed thing. The whole purpose of routes is to have you farm more location data. This means, the more failed attempts at finding a cell, the more routes you'll do. This corporate strategy sounds good on paper, but in reality it actually makes people want to play less. Happy people spend time and/or money. If they're not happy, they won't spend time or money.

Every time you reach 250 cells you should get an encounter with a Zygarde, with minimum IV values of 13/13/13

I love the routes. I love to get the rare candy, rare XL candy and Elite TM for free. I can't afford to raid so much, so it is great to get those items. And the stardust and XP is also good. I also walk routes to get buddy hearts.

Route is 90% of my gameplay these days, by far the most agregious thing is the routes pausing for "reasons", you open up the app at the end of the route to complete it, and it decides to pause right before updating your location and wants you to return to the start to resume. The pause features is totally useless too, who the f would ever willingly pause it when leaving going is fine.

I’m a newer player and it would be great if routes had a mechanic to help you with special research. Trying to complete monotonous tasks like Evolve a Magikarp, Evolve a Feebas, or even Catch an Aerodactyl are brutal. If those mons aren’t spawning, you’re just out of luck. In my half year of playing, I’ve seen only one Aerodactyl and of course it was just before I got the research to catch one. None have spawned since. While this wouldn’t be a huge change, something like this would give me more reason to get out there and follow routes.

Thanks for this, I’ve been searching for KZbin videos and Reddit posts on routes but there aren’t many. It shows that it’s a dead mechanic since not many people talk about it. Yet I love doing routes and having the goal of getting the Zygarde form

I think that Routes would be a bit better if there were two thing changed 1, A chance at a 10% Zygarde along the route and / or 2, An increase to daily Zygarde Cells Collection for 3 to 20. Both would increase the number of players interacting with the feature and can be useful for the 100% Hunters.

I do routes everyday, though not too bothered about cells. 3 per dayat the w/e, and 6-8 per day during the week near where I work. Get to work early, do a couple before work, then in lunch break and afterwards. I do them because it really helps double hearting your buddy without using a poffin. Have a rubbish fully evolved zygarde but have nearly all the cells ready if we ever get another one. We're capped at 250 cells (or were), so thought I may as well evolve my ten ten ten for the dex entry and start again.

I think that a great mechanic to get Zygarde that they have previously used and similar to what you said would be to get an encounter with one when you receive your Platinum Expert Navigator badge for completing 600 routes. (Little biased cuz I got mine) Also I use routes to get my buddy hearts which I think some ppl forget about

Hey jinsula. Great video. I think that catching zygarde on routes would be great but i think routes could go even further. I think routes should be like the main series games in that certain routes spawn certain pokemon types. Maybe it can either be random, the types change the higher the badge completed, maybe according to biome or maybe the more people who follow the route it changes types. It could be a great opportunity to get off season spawns. There's so much potential for routes that it's disappointing that it's all based on 1 single pokemon. At least we got white striped basculin for a minute there.

To get Zygarde - 84 days of consistency. - Make new routes often, have 20-30 to where you are going anyway, going to the store or work or gym, stack them on the same path. Easy enough. - Walk or better, bike 6-8 routes per day, cells spawn at end of route. - Don’t walk the same routes every day, seems to be a cooldown (like 3 days) or less likely to spawn if later in the day. - Don’t bother in a snowstorm. - Do give your own routes 5 stars for visibility in menu. Holding one complete Zygarde and 211 cells in storage so it is not difficult, just a long grind.

The few times I’ll engage with routes it’s so my buddy can get that one extra heart. If they did what you suggested I’d actually want to do routes. I don’t even care to evolve the one I do have so I’m collecting cells for nothing

Much of my 'catching' revolves around my commitments, like going to the market, lunch, or raids, etc. It just adds complexity and time to plan my trip around getting to the start of a route, following that route to somewhere near my destination, then getting to my destination on time, especially if I come back empty-handed. I play quite a bit (lvl 41 after playing 5 months), but I'm not the type to create routes or pokestops. I'll note that I started in August last year so due to xl candy/dust requirements, I only play great league and pve. So it would be cool to max out my 14/13/13 zygarde - which I am okay with - but it's low on the priority list. If there were a pool of rare encounters, stardust catch bonuses, shiny boosts (not that important for me but incentivizes many players), better hatch pools for eggs, rocket battles (I know they're not for everyone but I jump at every chance at fighting ground/rock/ice/dragon grunts), or coin/raid pass rewards it might appeal more to people like me. But the target niche for routes currently seems very narrow

Definitely agree on wanting more chances to get a zygarde, either by walking routes, or maybe as part of some event. For instance, the Lunar New Year event that's finishing today had that timed research that included getting 10 zygarde cells for walking a route. Wouldn't it just make sense if there was some associated task that would give a chance at a zygarde? I'd love to get three, which would incentivize me to work to get one in each form, even if they aren't relevant to pvp.

Personally I like It because it gives an extra heart for your buddy pokemon, two hearts if you use a puffin... Which leads to my opinion. I feel like they could give better items like puffin! Even if it's a rare item that gets better chances if you get gold on the route they could even throw in some silver pinaps or even xl candies! That would definitely make me want to do them more and even make more of them!

I do feel like it would help,I think they could absolutely do more on/for routes with zygarde cells/legendary birds ,I just think they are stalling on zygarde before legends za and waiting to do something with it for Pokemon horizons/legends za and think Niantic secretly knows what they are doing

I like the idea of completing a route X amount of times for a Zygarde encounter. Alternatively maybe to help “slow” it down it could be tied to encounters with Mateo, and on the 100th encounter you get a Zygarde reward. While much smaller incentives I think that Mateo needs a re-work. The special eggs he can give should (1) go into the back up three slots if available when others are full, (2) the Pokémon able to be hatched should be unique from the standard gift eggs - and should allow eggs from other countries to give their regional as the harder option. So white Basculin g. Corsola, g. Farfetched, a more common regional (from origin country), the main regional (from origin country). But also where the gifts come from should rotate around the 18 Vivillon habitats. I constantly get from the UK (shares same Vivillon pattern as where I live) and Japan. Finally, [and maybe this is the case already] the rewards given from completing a route should be related to the distance of the route - so a special spawn every 200m rather than a set amount, dust/xp based on the metres travelled along the route (capped at official distance of the route). This helps improve both the grind and gives a reason to grind - without also disadvantaging those that live rurally etc.

I love routes... even though I have a complete Zygarde and have 84 useless (for now) cells and have one route done over 200 times. I would like to see that for every 300 cells you get, you get a chance at another Zygarde... and every (multiple) gold route you get, you get a Zygarde. Something to make it more fun. Party Play is a whole different story...

Finished the zygard challenge. Since doing so have not received one cell on any route I’ve done, usually 3 a day is what I do. So the big BONUS was no bonus.

Last time I did a route, I had to pause it, and when I tried to resume the route again, it said I had to go back to the location that I paused at despite not moving anywhere so I had to restart the route over and no Zygarde cell at the end of it. I haven't done a route since that time over a year ago.

I have 10-10-10 zygarde. Got the 250 cells, evolved fully, then started again. I'm waiting to see if I can get a better one, then ill have the cells ready to go. Currently at 235, so not long to go.

Do I LOVE routes? Nope. Could they improve? Yes. But I do up to five a day en route to work or home, and I get some GREAT rewards, including Elite ATMs, golden Ras, stardust, and more. I don’t know if having Zygards available to catch is the answer, but I think rare spawns in general, including legendaries, would get everyone more motivated. And don’t forget, this is another potential platinum medal, which we’re going to need.

Just finished my 100% Zygarde several weeks ago. Am grinding for the Routes Platinum now and am only 69 away. After that, will only do the one near my home on my way to work simply because rewards are rarely worth it now that I don't need cells.

I walk routes all the time. I've created several that suite where I walk. I like them for the eggs from all over the World that you get from Mateo. I'm not lucky enough to have travelled to all these locations that many players have (especially KZbin creators), so it is the only way I will get some cool location Pokemon, even if they are only from eggs. I've also got 14 of the Vivillon thanks to this as well, which is cool. In saying that, My Zygarde is only a 2 star, so like you said, I'm not really interested in putting in the effort for that. Although I do have 192 cells thanks to all of the above.

I was lucky enough to get a 94% zygarde. And got my 250 cells last summer, after several routes a day(because they don't guarantee cells) and to hedge that bet, i would go to different routes. I did get very irritated because walking the same 6 routes at my local park daily might produce 1-2 cells every other day, some once a week. Some i would ignore for a week, and still no cell. So, i agree, more consistency for the cell to show up. I am glad they fixed the problem with the route ending before the cell could be collected, though. That was even more frustrating 😅😅😅

I think I will never ever to get complete form on my own without help. As a low vision, the route is mostly not accessible for me. Furthermore, the Zygarde cell is nearly impossible to be spotted without any sound to notify or even it is being collected. Hope we can get the cell automatically after complete the route . Another thing that bother me is the pause/resume function, I feel it is better to be automatically resume back if the GPS drifted. I have no idea why we need to pause itby the way. lol

I try to do one a day for mateo and scatterbugs and zcells. My zygarde does suck hard too. 2*. I will say though maybe every 50 cells will let you improve the ivs by a point or 2. You still only get one but for once it can get better

I do routes every day. It's not even the zygarde cells I want. I like the fast and charged tms's and I ike the way it helps give your buddy the double hearts, allowing it to become best buddies much quicker. I can say however if I was more interested in the cells the fact that they just don't appear sometimes is a problem. Perhaps they should make it a daily research. You could get a cell each time you complete a route up to 3 per day.

I'm a newb to the game, but I was thinking about it the other day. I was wondering why they don't tie it to the Daily Incense and just use the Birds model. Alternatively they could make a Route Incense that works just for this Legendary. Even more Alternatively. Adapt the Incense concept from the core game to work like a Lure module. Either have different Incense that attracts specific baby Mons or have a generic Route Incense but randomize the baby line on the route so you have to discover which one it hosts this week/month. While having Zygard show up randomly like the birds. Routes are boring, not just because Zygard cells are capped and you only get one Zygard, but because the only Mon associated with them is Zygard. Third option. Tie routes and discoveries with the Buddy you bring with you. Have the buddy randomly find things only found on routes. Anything from route stickers to something genuinely useful. Like walking a Pikachu finds pieces to a costume allowing you to build one of it's cosplay forms. These could even be limited events

Mybe you get a Zygarde for getting the account route metals at 10/50/200/600 routes completed. Im doing routes when I have time. My big problem is the Zygarde cell limit that is 300(was 250 before the current even).

I completed two routes yesterday with zero cells rewarded. I’m tired of putting effort into it so long and still haven’t been able to reach the last 200 needed for final evolution. Cells need to be guaranteed and worth more than one cell. Plus, it’s only for one Pokemon. I agree with everything you stated in this video. I also agree with he other comment posted that we should get encounters with zygarde.

What happened to the Fidough route tasks? They should've just left them in the pool. I plan to do routes today because I need to complete the Zygarde research, but outside of that I don't really like the feature. It's very underwhelming.

The fact that doing a route doesnt guarantee a Z-cell and limits to 3 per day is insanity. Just throw them into field research and remove the limitations. Routes is extremely tedious and unnecessary with mediocre rewards.

If it guaranteed a Z cell, I would do routes. I won't want to do routes, if I am not going to do a fricking route and get no cells. At least guarantee a cell per route even if the limit is three.

I've stopped.. 1. My Zygarde is a crappy 2* 2. I only get a cell (average) every 3rd route I follow. 3. I start to take off.. and my route pauses and I have to go back to the start point. I am just very frustrated with the whole route thing. 🤷‍♀️

I have a 98% zygarde and i could not care less about routes. They just don't give enough of a reward for me to go out of my way to do. I've only done two routes since they release. One at the start after they fixed the feature and one for the timed research. Both times just felt like a chore and very boring. Both times after finishing a route left me feeling so glad it was over and never wanting to do one again. The latest one i did didn't even give me a cell. I thought to myself, if it's possible to not get a single cell why would i waste my time with this feature? The feature is definitely polished now, but it still doesn't feel finished yet.

Started last july, done over 1.2k routes, had to evolve my crap zygard and now have 228 more cells. Rather than random encounters, we should be able to exchange cells for an encounter.....ive posted this in many comments but alas i fear it will never happen. I gave up on Routes, three reasons, I've done different routes for many days In a row, some days I'd do 5 routes with no cells. The second issue is they're tedious, when they pause half way through so you have to backtrack and faff around with pausing and resuming nah too annoying. Thirdly, I can't even lucky trade my Zygarde, it's trash stats and not worth investing. Hasn't motivated me to get many cells

Routes are just incredibly boring. When it was released I think I did a total of 10 or 15? I even created a few too. It needs to have increased rewards. Better encounters on routes etc.

The game doesn't seem to know what it is. It claims to be a video game but generally speaking video games dont require being outside...maybe its a fitness app....well no because it really doesn't track steps or any other fitness feature. Long story short its always had an identity crisis and the only thing we can be certain of is the main driver is ways to sell our location data and everything that detracts from that is pruned. Pogo would have been a major success if it functioned more like it does for spoofers but alas we have a half baked idea leaning on the pokemon franchise for momentum

After 1000 Routes ya get a Zygarde Encounter and in 500 is shiny l, i do a big route in my town with bunch if small ones and theres like 34 routes in the loop i do and i do the whole thing every day so i rekon we should be able to get an encounter every 1000 routes we do makes it so even minium routes if 500m like i do i get 34 on a bike so 1k routes would be an encounter every couple weeks and that seems fare and thats at the minimum so yeah deffo need to fix it tho cause i played for monthsand phone wouldnt allow routes as old but recently got new ohone abd can do routes but im loving them onky git 13 cells so far and 11 was from that reaearch just recently so yeah but i love them easy way to get tms as i get them every time great for xp and dust potions everything really thats why i put routes all along the track i normally do just get extra bonuses biw whike catching stuff hahahaha

How about just give a zygard every time you do a route.

All of this recent complaining about zygarde is ridiculous. I started the cell grind last August and was finished by the end of November. It’s really not that hard. People are unbelievably lazy these days. It is what it is. You can either boss up and make it happen, or keep crying online about how you did one route and didn’t get a cell. Your choice.

I didn't do routes since they didn't exist around me. then when some were actually created, they were really shitty. then those disappeared. :D also skipped megagiga raids. don't feel like trying to build some stupid goat for another game inside the game.

it's somehow weird how long it took for them to completely drop the ball with me. I'd still sort of like playing, but content is just rushing in without the stuff I'm actually interested in.
