The history of yugioh videos on youtube rarely talk about OCG, but its early metagames had such different card pools. Imagine having gemini elf / feather duster / crush card virus before the TCG had even launched!

@kindlingking2 жыл бұрын
I think there's a video on one of smaller tcg channels (forgot it's name) that goes in depth about OCG since the time if it's inception, when cards still clarified to sent them to the graveyard after activation. That environment was wild - no tribute summons, barely any good spells and basically only one way to play - good_stuff beatdown. Compared to that modern yugioh is paragon of card game design.
@darrellfortson45582 жыл бұрын
@@kindlingking lol so basically "instructions unclear, summon dark magician" *note* my previous comment is not a slight against people who don't like master duel. I personally rather play paper myself and only really play with my coworkers. I think that I might have freed a beast with my first comment and don't want any more wars lol.

Modern Yu-Gi-Oh sucks though, ever since they moved to GX and forward it kinda sucked, it was better when it was simple, long, strategic games.
@darrellfortson45582 жыл бұрын
@@BonnieBeats I sadly have to disagree. I believe that the games are still long and strategic. The turn count has shortened agreed, but any competent deck will be actively interacting on the opponents' turn just like some on the best duels in the yugioh anime. But if you don't like modern-day cards, the more power to you. But I play duelist alliance, goats, and Edison formats and honestly, I prefer the speed of today's game. Tl:Dr, it's preferences not objective truth. It's all yugioh to me 😀

It wasn't. The Tokyo Dome incident was a MASSIVE debacle. Putting the cards in booster packs widely available to the public is one thing, making them limited promos is atrocious (with one of the cards ONLY being a very limited promo, and as you know you need all 5 pieces so you need this promo)

I must confess I never knew the original original effects of Sangan and Witch worked like Burning Abyss monsters essentially, but regarding Exodia as the best deck for a time this was also the case for the TCG as well. In a LOB only format without even the cards from the Yugi and Kaiba starter decks Exodia, while not tier zero as the OCG was still the best deck. This is because there were no hand discarding cards, not even Card Destruction, the strongest beatdown monster with no tributes was Skull Red Bird and and spell and trap removal was very limited and weak. We're talking Armed Ninja and Reaper of the Cards here. Not only would Swords of Revealing Light usually stick around there were multiple low level monsters in LOB with 2000 defence that your opponent would not be able to get rid of easily.

So at different points in its history the game had: 1- An unlimited number of cards in the Extra Deck/Fusion Deck and Main Deck. 2- A version of Last Will that let you summon monsters every time one of yours was sent to the graveyard. 3- Link Monsters. Would have been interesting to see these three elements coexist with one another in the same format. And by interesting I mean absolutely degenerate.

There are a lot of ways to build a deck for exodia, overall in the original anime the only 2 times you will remember exodia is in the first episodes when yugi kicked kaiba's ass, as for the second time it was at the end when yami has gone back in time and Exodia was released to fight the "ultimate dark lord". and when he has defeated by the creator of light.

I mean, Exodia was undoubtedly most powerful deck in early OCG but it had one major flaw - It was also the same time when Empty Jar-style decks became a thing and because there was no ways to recover Exodia pieces from graveyard, it was extremely susceptible to it. It was glass cannon deck - if player did not completed Exodia on turn one or two, chances are that they just lost immediately.

It's not even a game at that point. I can understand the occasional lucky draws, but if my only option is to watch my opponent draw cards and shuffle their deck until they get everything they need to insta-win, it's just not a fun game for me anymore. even if I run an exodia FTK deck, it's basically just rolling dice to see who wins with the world's most elaborate victory dance
