The ONE to Beat: Burson Soloist 3X GT Review

Really nice review, I've had the pleasure to run Oor and Soloist GT side by side for the last few weeks and the only thing I would disagree from the review is detail. To my ears on sets like Susvara and 1266 Oor is a clear step above the GT especially in the midrange and lower treble. I got the GT first as pre order and then got Oor for a week to test. Ended up keeping Oor as well because of the amount of extra details that I haven't heard before that it managed to pull out from every track. I wasn't going to keep it as it's quite expensive but I literally had a whole sheet of a4 paper with notes of details that Oor was pulling out and GT and other amps were smearing over or hiding in the FR dips. We all hear differently though so it's only my experience. I would say GT is a 9 in of sound quality and Oor is 9.8, but GT is 10 in terms of features and Oor is an 8 or a 7 even. Update : after more inquisitive listening and digging around I'm starting to agree with Sandu on this. I'm able to run the GT with both Abyss and Susvara on low gain (yes you heard it right, and it's plenty punchy, loud and powerful ... having 5.8v balanced out of Holo May makes it possible I think) and I noticed that during late night listening sessions GT sounds a lot cleaner. I live in a block of flats with terrible electric installation, and even with a linear power conditioner it can still get messy, anyway, I take back what I said above about the GT being worse than the Oor in terms of SQ, they are on par, Oor is darker and more natural, GT is brighter and more energetic, both sound amazing ... also driving Susvara full blast on low gain ... yeah : )

My guess is that your Hypsos has done a very good job at cleaning up your power. GT doesn’t smear the details from what I hear, but that’s also because I had invested into my power hygiene. You’ll really get clear details with very clean power, whether that’s through a Hypsos or a really good power hygiene system.

Also, he has a Plixir Elite BAC 1500 to go with his hypsos/super charger. As well as upgraded and cleaned up electrical lines. Man, I'm considering getting the Bac 1500 now with audio bacon and now Sandu saying only good things about plixir.

@@jasonp1568 yes also noticed GT reacts to power a lot, this could be the difference here, its hard for me to believe it would have a better midrange than Oor but it could on a dedicated power line. Power can do wonders.

@@krisrudecki9477 it sometimes could be that a more intimate soundstage gives the impression of clearer mids, and we know that Oor doesn’t have the biggest staging. So it’s really a toss up on what one would prioritize.

In my stack (got a power conditioner but my power is definitely not the best) Oor is the full detail and maximum realism amp and the GT runs with HA6a as a tube pre for more euphoric sound, which ultimately would sacrifice detail anyway. I find myself valuing Oor more but listening to the tube pre into GT a lot more especially with Susvara 🤷‍♂️

The moment you see Hifiman Susvara and Audeze Lcd-4 on display you already know Sandu has A WORLD CLASS AMPLIFIER for review. No need for anything else. And if there is a company that can make solid state sound like tubes+clarity that is Burson Audio. Not sure about the red accents, but the rest is simply TOP NOTCH! Power, elegance, intelligence and adaptability. Congratulations, Sandu, you have all of them😃 Just kidding, I ment the Burson, although you are close second😉 Great work, man, no one does it like you!👍👍

Can you compare between the single end and balanced on 3X GT, I owner a GT and I feel the single end sounds better than balanced.

Maybe based on your gear but balanced sounds more spread out to me, not too foward and more spacious.

I don’t personally care for the red but I’m sure this thing is awesome. I’m a big fan of this line as I have the previous version and love it. Honestly for the money, I think these Burson pieces are some of the most astonishing components on offer. Great job on the review! Now, can we get a matte black and gray one w/a screen dimming function?

the red pieces are not the standard build that was custom for Sandu. The standard is all over the headfi thread.

@@aceofspades6667 He says @ 0:32 , they liked the red so much that all future amps will come that way . I agree with Darth Durkel above, I don't care for it at all. Will it prevent me from buying a new Burson Amp, it very much might, as I think it is tacky and cheapens its look ! Just my opinion.

yes this was a great review well done and worth the wait! IMO this is likely my go to choice over volot and oor+hypsos. I like the preamp, cross talk, and sub-out capabilities along with op amp rolling (I prefer sparkos over vivids at lease in 3XP). I will be picking one up soon (awaiting Holo Audio "Bliss" release first)... If you're keeping this you may want to consider getting a pair of Mysphere 3.2 as they are earspeakers and would benefit from the sub-out and sound stage aspects of GT.

That's a real short list of amps that can drive the Susvara. Ferrum Oor, Soloist GT, and the Xduoo XA-10 right? Xduoo is really punching above its weight class
