Your mention of shepherds in the video reminded me of something from church yesterday. We had a presentation on shepherds, and it struck me how simple and unglamorous their role was. They spent weeks out in the fields, unable to bathe or care for themselves properly. During the discussion, the term shepherd boy came up. I learned it’s because if an adult was a shepherd, it was seen as a sign of failure. It wasn’t a job anyone wanted or would brag about. But here’s what I find so beautiful-these were the people God chose to announce Jesus’ birth to. Not kings or rulers, not the rich or powerful, but shepherds, the lowest in society at the time. It says so much about who Jesus came for. Not just the elite, but all of us, especially those who are humble and overlooked. Thank you again for today’s video. It reminded me of the courage and humility we are all called to embrace.

I often think about the great joy, the gift God was giving for the people, so great that a multitude of angels were singing praises ...compared to us, the people, now. Does God ever feel cynical, both now and at Easter, seeing that He has truly given us His very best - His own son - and today people take it so lightly? Does He grow weary with us, knowing He has already given us the best of Himself, yet so many times we don't truly see? God thank you for hanging in there with us!

The fear...I have "burned the ships" between my old life and a new life, and I've been seeking direction for that life but over the weekend, my knee decided to go on strike - so it looks like part of "new life" involves medical bills. I know that becoming healthier is one of the changes I want (and need) to make, as is finding a job that I will like, that will let me help others, and that will ease my financial situation. Fear is a "spider" that looks the size of a house standing between me and these things.

I have had the privilege and honor of reading Luke 2:7 at several Church Christmas services. When I read this passage, I try to communicate two feelings. First, the fact and vulnerability of a teenage girl giving birth to her first child. Second, the tenderness and love of this moment as this inexperienced mother cares for her helpless baby by wrapping Him tightly in swaddling cloths, like a papoose, to comfort Him, and then lays Him in a manger filled with straw. I have seen hearts melt, like mine, as I read this passage.

Great message of hope and joy, thank you John. When it comes down to it, the shepherds were really the lucky ones, because they saw it all, the heavenly hosts and our lord in form of a child, they were there. I don’t really care if the translation or the meaning of Luke was, that Jesus was born in a barn, cave, lower level house or whatever. Maybe the small town was full to the last place, and Jesus was born in a barn, we don’t know. There are historians, scientists, and other smart people even saying that Jesus wasn’t born at that time of the year, because shepherds at that time of the year wouldn’t be out in the field. Others say that Jesus probably was born in Nazareth and not in Bethlehem, and there is the virgin birth, on and on and on. At the end of the day we can argue, debate and speculate from Adam and Eve to the Revelation on no end. What does it make for a difference if I believe he was born in a barn or cave? It doesn’t! Jesus birth was a miracle, God in human form, to save us and the earth from everlasting damnation. And yes, according to my intensive scientific research and study of the Bethlehem city plans of the year 0, taking in account of all the facts and possibilities, I came to the conclusion that he was probably born in a barn, prove me otherwise. Merry Christmas and peace to all. Keep up the great work John, you are a great blessing to many of us.
